    They were doing the research 5 years ago, and stopped over 4 years ago. It doesn't look like they were taking a really serious look at it anyway. How much data can they really get from 200 tests?

    At least when I was in Houston, Spring had one of the desirable school districts.

    Anyway, how stupid is this. Spring spend $180,000 just to implement this system, just so a mom can find out if her child got off the bus or not. Do these people really have that much money to spend on technology that isn't even that useful? This could have been done 15 years ago with a simple bar code, or magnetic strip. RFID is just the most expensive possible way of acheiving some really strange goal of aleviating some sort of strange middle class angst.

    Well, let's see, the price of college in the US continues to explode Yahoo Story. Meanwhile, as best I can tell (please let someone know what the real price is) Indians can receive an MBA from IIT for less than $480/semester......

    Maybe the answer to the question is looking at how India is subsidizing their college student's education, and actually... dare I say it.... slashing the costs of colleges in the US.

    How can the US possibly compete in an environment when education costs are 30x more expensive... not to mention that all of the expenses of living in the US are 100x more expensive.

    Maybe it's time to just slash the cost of housing/education/taxes by 90%. That would solve everyone's problems....

    So, you paid approximatly $200,000 for your education, and you are going back to India to earn $20,000 per year. Tell me how the economics work on that?

    But he could justify spending $12,000-$15,000 buying 6 machines for home use?
    And all of these machines required a full office suite?
    He could always use Wi-fi to compose presentations in the bathroom instead of needing a his and hers computer terminal there.

    And don't forget that it's not just states. In a lot of cases, sales taxes are charged at a locality basis.

    At Oracle World, Craig Barrett pulled out a automobile designer, I can't rember who it was. But the designer basically said that they deconstructed a Ferrari to create their new production car. How is this different than software engineers deconstructing other applications?

    Why does anyone need to be in the US? What does a lawyer do that requires them to be in the US? Why do sales engineers need to be in the US? Since we are in a knowledge based world, shouldn't companies be able to just be completely open up offshore?

    In addition, there are good samaratan laws which say that you can't be held liable for trying or not trying to help out the 5'1 woman. So, if you tried to rescue the woman, and and she drowned as you tried to help her, you couldn't be held liable, as long as you weren't trying to kill her off.

    One of the interesting parts of the LBJ biography was how he made sure that his staff replied in a personal letter to all mail and phone messages.

    I would suspect that current pols don't give a $*()@*#)( about their e-mail or messages anyway. Local officials are too powerless for most people to communicate with. State and National pols are too busy talking to lobbyists and paying attention to the polls and statistics to worry about what Joe Schmoe is ranting about today.

    One of the things that they brought up in the biography of LBJ was how he made sure that ALL mails and phone calls were replied to by his staff.

    But I would strongly suspect that current elected officials couldn't give a $*(@#*() about what individuals say. Local officials are too powerless for most people to communicate with, and state and national officials are only looking at statistics and polls, (ok and lobbiests) to worry about what Joe Schmoe is ranting about.

    Don't allow your students to use a computer in the classroom. I've taught computer classes, where the computer was a necessity, and at least 30% of the class would not pay attention to lectures, because they were too busy surfing the net, answering e-mails, or IMing each other.

    If you absolutly have to allow computers, make sure that they are turned off when you are having classroom discussions.

    Well, they just want more bandwidth for good e-mails such as:
    • Support conservatives for politiciens
    • How liberals are screwing over the little guy
    • How big business can save the country by firing your daddy
    Of course, any e-mail that doesn't fit in with the current conservative political belief system will instantly be labeled as spam.
