  1. Re:Isn't this going to get expensive? on Georgia College's New Policy — Reporting All P2P Users To the Police · · Score: 2, Interesting

Thinking this through this is actually an excellent way to get the IP holders off the backs of University IT Departments. All Universities develop a blanket policy that each identified use is reported to the local police. The local police ignore the flood of accusations and write them off for lack of evidence. The University has take the most drastic step it can so what are the IP holders left to complain about. They can try to go against the local police forces but good luck with that.

Do you care to explain why? I think it is perfectly reasonable to drive down someone's driveway, and unless they tell me to leave, post notices prohibiting it, or make the drive inaccessible. There are certainly harmless and perfectly legitimate reasons to enter another's property. Why institute a blanket prohibition?

I'm sorry but to me that reasoning sounds too much like "If you have nothing to hide then why should you worry about being under constantly monitored (video, phone intercepts, etc.)". Google isn't a government entity but it is an entity other than myself. I should be entitled to my privacy from anyone--even non-evil-doers.

  25. Re:MPAA needs to stop illegal downloading? on MPAA Kills California Anti-Pretexting Bill · · Score: 1

There is an argument that just because one group does something it does not exactly give another group the right to do something that is wrong. For instance, just because the MPAA/RIAA get a tax/charge/fee applied to items that can be used to copy music--with the reason being that it will be used to illegally copy music--it does not give the consumer of those items the right to actually illegally copy the music. So here, just because people are illegally copying music it does not give the MPAA/RIAA the right to impersonate (lie) about who they are to snoop into your private life. The double standard here is just crap.
