... recursive compression that results in an asymptotic curve towards a minimum size for already-compressed data over 'x' runs that I've been working on, and you can store pretty much anything on a single holographic disc!
Oh yeah, and the obligatory mention of a Beowulf cluster of these things, and how we all bow down before our new holographic data masters, and Bababoowie...
Ask yourself - do you live to work, or work to live? I love my job designing FPGAs, but my job is just that - a jobby-job. It enables me to do things I enjoy more like grabbing Corona after a long day and enjoying the San Diego sunsets, buying a widescreen HDTV to play Vice City on, or vacations out of the country.
Center yourself; if what you do for a living (and the company you do it for) take that much out of you, do you really have a good quality of life?
Ah yes, UM-Rolla. I'd heard rumors of this campus while doing my double-major (BSEE, BSCompE) at Mizzou. Isn't that where they filmed "Revenge of the Nerds"? Also, if you look at the past few years of the solar car challenge, Rolla hasn't always beat Mizzou (I was on the initial team getting funding in the early 90's). I actually ventured to Rolla for a conference once - I almost changed my major to business after seeing what my engineering peers were like...
Now if you want to talk about Mizzou, you should focus on the Greek Life! There are more hotties per square meter at Mizzou than most campuses (Pi Phi, DG, KKG, Tri-Delts...). Ah how I miss my pledge days living in Greektown and watching the fresh meat during rush week followed by the parties on Bid Day...
I say damn the torpedos, we rich Westerners are rich for a reason - we work more than anyone else in the world on average. You've got lazy Europeans fighting to work less and get more vacation time, and Asia? Forget about it - they can't even keep their feet dry most of the time so why trust their infrastructure to handling IT or technology jobs? Screw H1B visas, and close OUR borders. American jobs for Americans, I say.
Jesus Christ, from all the jobless whining on here I'd think you're all high school dropouts who thought IT was some golden nugget. Oh wait, that's not far from the truth... Personally I'm sitting here in San Diego after I VOLUNTARILY resigned from my last job in Tampa, Florida doing FPGA design and am now working (and making kick-ass $) after a short job search after moving here with my girlfriend. Read between the lines folks - backing up harddrives and babysitting servers isn't the wave of the future. Neither is any field that has you traveling all the time, taking crap from @sshole department heads, working over major holidays, or working constant 70+ hour weeks. And 'bragging' about it like it's a badge of honor doesn't get you respect, it just makes most people laugh. Get a real education, some real experience, and THEN a real career. Sheesh, some people need their noses wiped! Some folks on here have their stuff together, but godd@mn...
Personally, I'm drinking my tenth beer as I fiddle with my Nike/Phillips psa128 MP3 player my girlfriend bought me, in addition to listening to some tunes via the Harmon Kardon AVR225 receiver and Bose speakers she bought me. I'm stuffed since my parents sent us a smoked, pre-cooked turkey for dinner and my lady made cheesecake for dessert. Tomorrow I think I'll jog around Fiesta Island then spend the rest of my 11-day, work-free vacation having sex, drinking alot, and working on my own ideas to patent and retire.
Okay, this whole thing is a joke. If anyone tries to make a comparison to dot-com employees and engineers working for a gov't contractor, they should be drawn and quartered. There's a big diff between getting some joke certification and a network engineer and having a REAL degree in Electrical Engineering, and there's a big diff between designing some lame website and designing chips for classified satellites...
These overblown, underqualified IT Weenies are worthless. They should be taking out my trash and unclogging my toilet.
Imagine a Beowulf cluster of dual-boot macs! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!
Man, imagine a beowulf cluster of the prequels! I bow to our new prequel overlords!
Woo hoo!
a beowulf cluster of Google dark fibers! Whew!
Bababoowie! Bababoowie! Howard Stern's penis! All your little streaks in the sky are belong to us!
I for one kneel before our new little-streaks-from-the-sky overlords!
Hey, imagine a Beowulf cluster of these little streaks! Wouldn't that be a powerful computer?
BaBaBooie! First Post! Imagine a Beowulf cluster of these chicks! I bow down before these HIV immune women...
