Not unless the MIDI was included on a data CD packaged with one of Duran Duran's albums. MIDI files aren't recordings; they're re-interpretations, and I believe they're considered "fair use"
Actually, FF7 and FFTactics used the same exact sound driver, and they each had only a 512KB instrument sample bank. The technology utilized is exactly the same.
FFTactics just had better samples, and a more talented composer.;) (Hitoshi Sakimoto beats the pants off Nobuo Uematsu any day)

Anyone peering in on this topic would be wasting his/her time by going to vgmusic.com - MIDI is a poor representation of the true glory of the videogame soundtracks of yesteryear.
With the development of digitally ripped (not recorded, we're talking the actual original data ripped directly from the game) soundtracks in the format of NSF, SPC, GSF, USF, PSF, and others, there's absolutely no point to downloading poorly interpreted general MIDI adaptations of these songs.
Hehe, I bet you remember RPGStuff, don't you? That was my site. These days, with BitTorrent making sharing so easy, leech sites like that really don't need to exist. It's cool to reminisce, though.
That is no defense at all. I know my ISP has a clause in their AUP (acceptable-usage policy) that states that the customer is responsible for all activity that happens on their connection, and is responsible for securing any wireless connections. Nice try, might've worked a few years ago, but many ISPs are wise to this now.
I'm still holding out hope for some type of USB hard drive enclosure... but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.
When the PS2 with the HDD started dying (disc read blahblah), we just bought one of the PSTwos and converted the old one to a dedicated HDLoader machine. All 3 US mixes of DDR run on it with hardly any loading time. It's great.
We're all set until it stops being able to boot the HDLoader disc. Oops. (yes, I am aware of the hacked version, but have been too lazy to stick it on a memory card (the PS2 in my room is modded, so I could do this.)
...I wonder how many other forthcoming demo discs will have playable copies of Viewtiful Joe 2 on them that do the same thing.
Egad that would piss me off... 80 hours on FFX and 35+ so far on Star Ocean 3, plus months on other various games... yeah, I don't like to think about memory cards being erased; it gives me the willies.
Thanks, Slashdot, for posting this story and helping make others aware.:)
Actually, I think the whole password thing is extremely coincidental.
Do a search for NARPAS SWORD
or something like that to turn up a few more replies, and hopefully the huge article that explain in-depth how the original Metroid's password system works, with the ridiculously easy to hack checksums and all that stuff. Fascinating really.:D
This is the type of story that is spammed to everywhere on the Internet within 24 hours by said "ea_spouse"... she was spamming all the LiveJournal gamer communities last night.
This story is truly no different than most things I've witnessed in the game/software industry. Deadlines must be adhered to at any cost. The company will not hire additional workers, so they run their developers and testers ragged, especially toward the end of a project.
This is nothing new, as I'm sure many people here will attest to.
It's great that someone's able to speak out about it... but it won't change anything.
For some reason, I actually see this one doing quite a bit of damage... if the infected users are running firewall software, though, it should prevent it from spreading widely (since they will probably not accept connections on the port it opens to serve http from)
Did you know that you can add AIM contacts to your contact list on ICQ, and vice versa?
Much handier for keeping message archives, and much less exploitable... and less intrusive also.
For those who don't want to use GAIM, Trillian, or Miranda.
The AIM client is ugly and stupid; I can't believe people still use it anyway.... unless they've "gotta have their AOL" even though they've "graduated" to a real ISP.
OMG KAWAII!!! (sarcasm)...Great, now cars can profess disgust and joy just like little virtual avatars in games like Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI....though the concept is a little bit intriguing. I still need one of those scrolling LED signs to stick in my rear-view mirror. The possibilities are endless.
...isn't really realized until it goes down. We were researching Linear PCM formats over here when it went down.
I got the error message... "Service Error -27" and immediately though "hm... I wonder what that is," and opened up a new browser window, absentmindedly typing in my query to the Google toolbar...

I laughed for a while, scratched my head, and decided to discuss with my co-workers what the decent "second place" search engine was... Dogpile seemed to be the most common answer. No relevant results, though. Geez, Dogpile is ugly.
I felt the same just now... until I learned of the limit between clicking "reply" and "submit";)
Oh well... leave the idiotic first postings to the NGAA or whatever they call themselves. Insightful/Informative/Interesting first posts are much more... valuable.
I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned it yet... but the numpad is invaluable to me for typing in hex.
Left hand on letters, right hand on numpad....I do a lot of stuff at work where we have 20-digit hex passwords, and I'm always typing offsets into debuggers and stuff at home trying to break programs I test...
They won't.

amen to that... and I bet it's just a matter of time until he's discovered and subsequently fired. Hohoho.

The error is erroneous.
What's so hard about...
/. about someone getting subpoenaed via the Patriot Act for using VoIP to make prank calls.
"Don't want to get caught doing stupid shit? Don't do stupid shit, then!" ?
I look forward to the first story I read on

Most recently, a Panera Bread restaurant downtown... not really too remote.
McDonald's restaurants are everywhere though; apparently they're aiming to wire them all for WiFi eventually.
PocketPC + WiFi SD Card = pretty cool, though.

I guess you can load songs onto it with your Pentium Athlon 64-based PC?

You guys should try it; it's pretty cool.
In 1995, Creative Labs came out with this nifty pen/mouse combo... thing... it was infra-red, and was 3D, like many of these other devices.
...and they're impossible to find nowadays, but it's still a neat concept... 10 years old :)
Of course the software only ran on Win 3.1/95
I'd ask the man for a job.
Working for Google... on the fraud team. That actually sounds very, very interesting.
