You Sir are playing word games. A person inside of the US is being spied upon. That IS DOMESTIC spying. The fact that the OTHER party is outside of the US does not mitigate that fact.
I realize that the Bush administration and its shills don't like being caught in the act of domestic spying but word games won't make it any less egregious.
... on a system that gives corporation a new avenue to collect revenue. If we allow ISPs to charge a penny per email this year then next year it'll be two cents, then five then a dime...
Once you start down that road email will become a corporate revenue source and the abuse will start.
The music industry trusts it. The movie industry trusts it. The government trusts it. The only people who can't trust it are the owners of the equipment on which it runs...
"The fees, which would range from 1/4 cent to 1 cent per e-mail, are the latest attempts by the companies to weed out unsolicited ads, commonly called spam, and identity-theft scams. In exchange for paying, e-mail senders will be guaranteed their messages won't be filtered and will bear a seal alerting recipients they're legitimate."
So they claim that this is an "attempt to weed out unsolicited ads." That's gotta be the most blatant lie I've heard in awhile.
So what they want us to believe is that if they allow some spam (let's call it the "good spam") to bypass their spam filters the amount of total spam will be reduced? And the way it becomes "good spam" is by the spammer paying a fee! What a crock.
This is just an attempt to implement the "Microsoft postage scam" in a round about way. Next they can announce that either they won't do any filtering at all making regular non-paying email hopelessly lost in the ocean of spam or they can just out and out stop the delivery of any free email.
This is NOT "the latest attempt to weed out unsolicited ads." This is the latest attempt by big corporations to increase their bottom line.

I must admit, I'm convinced that time is different depending on where a person is. I know it for a fact 'cause where I'm sitting it took FOREVER to work through that presentation! Ugggghhhhh....
"In most countries copying software is not a crime."
Sorry but my bullshit meter just pegged out there for a second. You're including all of the thrid world countries who's population can't afford computer's right? Most countries that use computers do have copyright laws that include software.
Just replace 'hobbyists' with 'Open Source programmers' and you'll have what Billy boy is really saying. It's always about obstructing competition. Always.
That illustrates the problem with any cooperative system in which the entire world's population is explicitly trusted.
The unfortunate truth is that there always has been and always will be a percentage of the worlds population who are assholes. It's just a fact that anything given to the world, no matter how good, will be ruined by these assholes unless measures are taken to protect it.
Really? You could have said the same thing ten years ago about American citizens being held indefinitely without being charged and without being allowed legal representation. It's happening now. The Bush administration justifies this action by telling us that they're only doing this to "terrorists." Yeah, great. If you're ACCUSED of being a terrorists they can make you disappear.
Twenty-five years ago it would have been laughable to suggest that the government could take away your private property without due process. Now they simply "arrest your assets" thus taking your property without giving you due process.
"Glad to see that you want to give away all of our classified information to our enemies. You *definitely* need information on how to infiltrate the NSA headquarters. Yeah. That's totally a constitutional right. And giving that information out will be so helpful."
If you read my post carefully you would have noticed that I said "any regulation that effects me." I don't care to know the floor plans to the NSA headquarters. I do have a right to know about any thing that effects me.
"It's still laughable, as it's never happened."
As I said above, people being made to disappear hadn't happened before either. American citizens are not suppose to be spied on without a court order but King Bush doesn't think the constitution is anything but a "God damn piece of paper." as he put it.
Yes, that's right. When an aid told the President that: "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."
Bush replied: "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, It's just a god damned piece of paper!"
So go ahead and mock all you want but this Administration has our civil liberties in its cross hairs!
"There is no secret law. There is the law 49 U.S.C. 114(s)(1)(C) which authorizes the TSA to issue regulations that are kept secret."
It makes me feel so much better that these are secret "regulations" rather than laws.
It always starts out as word games and then it gets serious. The fact that he wasn't "punished" this time doesn't mean that people won't be thrown into prison or just made to disappear when they refuse to bow down to secret "regulations" in the future.
"Are you going to argue that you are allowed to know the security regulations of, for example, the NSA headquarters?"
Yes! Absolutly an "regulation" that effects me I have a right to know about!
The scenario that I outlined would have been laughable prior to the Bush Administration but now it's a real and dangerous possibility!
"He asked to see the law demanding he show his 'papers' and was told after a time that the law was secret and no, he wouldn't be allowed to read it."
The constitution may no guarantee that a person be allowed to travel in any particular manner but I'm pretty sure "secret laws" are not constitutional and that is the real issue here.
US Gestapo: "Sir you are under arrest." Victim: "What for?" US Gestapo: "You broke the law Sir" Victim: "What law?" US Gestapo: "The secret law that we won't tell you about." Victim: "I didn't know we even had secret laws!" US Gestapo: "Ignorance of the law is no excuse Sir. Come with us." Victim: "I want my lawyer!" US Gestapo: "We aren't charging you Sir and you don't get to talk to your lawyer. Come with us."
...to "license" their source code does nothing for open source projects and they know it. The EU should stand firm and tell Microsoft "Thanks for the offer. This "offer" is just Microsoft continuing to play it "I'm complying but not really" game.
It could if it's like the posts under one of his other user names. (Luke PiWalker) He just plagiarizes other people's posts. He has had articles published by Slashdot that I've found elsewhere on the internet as well. He's just a plagiarizing karma whore. (As NeutronCowboy puts it.)
You're the exception. The problem is that once a spammer figures out that your email address is a live one, it'll be added to more and more lists. So you got 10 last year. That's great but this is only January and I'll bet that by the end of this year you'll have a hell of a lot more than 10.
I didn't get any spam for a long time but they finally snagged my email address and now the only thing that keeps my email usable are the advanced spam filters.

How's that for keeping a flame alive?
Joking... just joking...
the devil is in the details. Any really good flaw reported will fall just this side of critical. Not critical no $10,000.00. No bad press.

It has to do with ethics.
