Bull. The reference alone to the stupid Lines in all the mac theme stuff is worth reading alone. You show you have no idea about content. Especially since your attack is based only on my statement that I will modded down for making an anti-apple statement, Or is it?
Anway it was a rant, very true on that. I have been looking for an excuse to give a/. apple rant for a while. Sue me.
The crapiness that is APPLE actually got posted on/. Wonder how that got through the apple-lenses.
I have always marveled at the/. like for Apple. Apple is a greedy company just like Microsoft. Screw them both.
Yes I know, I now have a lifetime -86 anti-Apple moderation to all my future comments. Oh well. And while I am ranting, what is with the lines on everything apple? It is ugly. As are all the Aqua themes for linux wm's. Stop it. Apple sucks
Yesterday was build your own mouse out of string and glue. Today it is build your own keyboard. Tomorrow it will be, build you own monitor out of an old mirror and a commodore 64.
That should be modded down to -1. Horrible reasoning, I spoke of Constitutionality. You want to address social consequences. That is fine, however, it is no argument that their should be a CONSTITUTIONAL ammendment. It is fine to oppose gay marriage. It is not fine to allow separate but equal garbage or just complete denial of status. That has not LEGALITY that is not religious based. If you ask 100 people who oppose gay marriage, I guarantee you most of those people would be opposed due to moral teachings of their religions.
That is fine. You are allowed to believe what you want. I did not assume that YOU were coming from that position. All I wanted was a legal reasoning. Not a social argument.
Bush uses the freespeech zones alot. Others do not. People are being arrested in areas because they have a sign that is anti-bush and for no other reason. Your answer on Same sex marriage is extremely weak. That does not justify putting a constitutional ammendment in place that violates the very constitution it is ammending (equal protection). Name me one justification that does not involve offending someones moral code based on relgion? That justification needs to hold water under constitution.
I do not believe in big government. I am most closely related to anarchism.
My first thought was "Why would a lowly usher at a theater turn this guy over to police?" I was thinking how uncool you would have to be to do that to someone. Who would do this?
Then it hit me: Hall Pass Monitor guy
I guess mr hall pass monitor guy has found a place in life afterall.
No single worse call comes to my mind right now. However, the single worst practice does. In my experience, a good majority of tech support people are looking for the "out".
I define "the out" to be the thing that "i" have done to make it so they dont have to help me.
The out can be that I have a "linux server" somewhere in the building. ie "Oh, no so we dont support Linux so I can not help you on any network issue you might have."
Comcast recently did this. For a real estate friend, I went over to look at what was wrong with her network and cable modem. I called up tech support and when I told the tech support person there was an internal network, i got "OH NO, no no. We can not give you any more support because you have an internal network. Thank you for calling though..." The tech support person had found his "out".
Next time you are on a call with tech support, watch them try to find their out, the piece of knowledge that will free them from the obligation of helping you.
The problem is that Open Source does not generate ideas
Ok, I am now convinced there is some serious FUD going on out there designed to propagate this lie. Please back up this assertion. Take a look at 10 linux based server projects and show how they are nothing but replications. Show me where proprietary companies do NOT just replicate the ideas of other proprietary companies.
As it is, I am going to read all such statements as clueless FUD from now on out
How about "Well, if you werent such a moron to spend 500 dollars for some crap that will make you spend another 500 dollars in 3 years....."
Besides, I have been communicating with the Microsoft Office people for quite some time seemlessly.
Very occassionaly something looks a little off, but that if very rare.
Of course I use the.xls,.doc file extensions, because it is easier. I understand many OSS people refuse to do this, making it a stance again st MS.
For the most part MS has won that-.xls and.doc ARE the STANDARDS now. And yes, I know they will change that standard every year without telling anybody:)
Side note: I just did a OO install on my fathers new winxp machine, because he didnt know it didnt come with excel. When he found out price he said no way. He is using his spreadsheets just fine.
"What I really want to point at is innovative power in Linux. There does not seem to be any"
It was hard to read the rest of your post after you said that nonsense. LTSP, LVS are just two things from the linux/OSS world that are extremely innovative and useful. What about how easy it is to get data from one of my machines to another compared to windows? On and on and on........
Gates is smoking crack
btw- there are many Linux window managers that dont have a start button....
Lets see I just installed spybot with CrossOver Office
Install was smooth.
Nope no spyware on this gentoo machine
kidding aside more and more programs written for windows look decent with wine of your choice. Of course I would rather see native linux binaries (come on developers its not THAT hard to do it right the first time!!)
I did a sample LTSP setup for another government agency with 30 machines all coming off a single Dell linux server (gentoo). They were very impressed, the speed was as good if not better then the brand new desktops they spend 1500 a pop on.
It looks like for kiosk mode it would be a no brainer to do LTSP instead of writing your own distro.

There are also many references on the web to most of the issues brought up in that article from big-named sites.
I do not believe in big government. I am most closely related to anarchism.
This is why you shouldnt stop drinking coffee. Yes i was thinking of godwin not occam. damn laws
It was an attempt at humor, and you will have to forgive me as I am a little edgey right now. I just learned about "Freedom of Speech Zones"
Patriot Act
legislating morality (constitution ammendment on marriage)
war
removal of free speech
I know all about Occams's Razor, but this is getting scary. Of course i am just a commie liberal right?
liberal unamerican terrorist bastard
Come to think of it, I bet /. houses a lot of ex Hall-pass guys.
FESS UP!!!
how many of you were?
Then it hit me: Hall Pass Monitor guy
I guess mr hall pass monitor guy has found a place in life afterall.
hmmm?

That is exactly why they are not on the wrong side, because they are not taking a biased approach
You think that in those cases they are wrong because you are religious, and I dare say that is blinding you to what they are doing.
To be fair, I could be wrong since you did not mention a specific case.
mostly harmless you mean
