This book looks completely stupid... I have no idea who the intended audience was at the time, but I don't know if it was normal people.

Anyhow, I have manuals from 1977 for equipment I use today. (Actually the equipment was built in 77 and I think it was around a bit before then).

It's nothing quite like that, but pretty standard stuff for the industry. Things like how it works, diagnostics, troubleshootings, maintenance and EVERY SCHEMATIC you would need to fix it. (which is every schematic in the unit).

Pretty flippin handy... I just wish they made all books like transmitter docs.

That's really the only way it doesn't sound absurd. Also, it's best to assume the slashdot text is misleading and/or incorrect. (I like slash, I pay for slash, but I know it has faults)

Active Directory is a nightmware because a lot of what happens is done for you in a windows environment. Which is funny... a great deal of what goes on with normal samba is automated and you get to feel a whole lot more of that when you goto ldap. I'm sure someone has made some progress.

Anyhow, once it's done, you basically get a samba pdc + ldap auth source. It integrates nicely with linux, but becareful of setting up too many accounts on ldap (because it can of course go offline).

I've been using openldap + smba pdc for several months. It wasn't that bad and there were a few too many oddities involved, but it works nicely now.

What I suppose I'm looking for is a MP/team based game in which strategy really helps. I've been playing Planetside for a good while, but getting a full platoon (3 squads, 10 men per squad) of intelligent players is difficult.

At first glance, it wouldn't seem strategy is truely built into the game, but more along the lines of kill everyone. (not so if you can communicate effectively and play your targets correctly).

In effect, I'm looking for a true PS replacement. Lots of players, throw in some complexity and variety and targets that are not lined up like dominoes. (It's a tough order to fill)

That said, I hate "the grind" many MMORPGS play upon intensely.

What concerns me lately is newegg seems to be falling into the same trap. Not so long ago I was seeing varying costs on shipping on things like cdroms. (from 2.99 to 7.00)

That seems to be settled a bit now, but I haven't done much digging lately. Still, I'll keep a watchful eye, but for inventory and pricing its tough to beat them.
