Good Old Games, and some new (like Witcher) and never any DRM

  2. Now we should fix the copyright term on House Kills SOPA · · Score: 2

If we can also kill PIPA, we should then try to fix the copyright term. Drug companies are somehow able to make a profit with a 20 year patent. Getting a successful drug to market can take 10 years and up to a billion dollars. Why should a song be copyrighted for 120 years from date of creation?

Tuesday, May 18: The City Council passes a resolution authorizing off duty police officers to wear their uniforms and use side arms when employed by BP or their sub-contractors for security purposes within the city limits of Pascagoula. The presence of these officers at the staging areas has facilitated movement of equipment and personnel while keeping disturbances at a minimum.

  4. Re:My solution on OfficeMax Drops Mail-in Rebates · · Score: 1

I stopped shopping at stores were I had bad experiences with rebates: OfficeMax, BestBuy, CompUSA, TigerDirect. I have had great luck with the Staples rebates. Just fill in a number on the web and get a check in 2-3 weeks. Contrast that with other experiences. I let the principal of the thing get to me and end up fighting way too hard for way too little money. For a $15 Logictech mouse I ended up going back and forth 5 times via email to eventually get my check 10 weeks later (each time encluding a scan of the original submission). For one rebate from TigerDirect, I submitted a complaint to the Attorney General of California. After that I got my $20 check.

http://optics.org/articles/ole/7/9/5/1 " For example, terahertz waves can pass through fog, fabrics, plastic, wood, ceramics and even a few centimetres of brick - although they can be blocked by a metal object or a thin layer of water. The way in which terahertz waves interact with living matter has potential for highlighting the early signs of tooth decay and skin or breast cancer, or understanding cell dynamics. "

Actually, in Starship Trooper, you only became a full citizen (i.e. able to vote) if you served. This was explained in the novel as not being moral, per se, so much as pragmatic (i.e. who is going to rebel??)

John Varley's "The Ophiuchi Hotline" dealt with a geneticist that was comdemned to death for crimes against humanity (human engineering). She was subsequently stolen from the cell. She dies many times fighting her captors. Each time she is reloaded with an older (less rebellious) copy.

  9. TigerDirect Microsoft Survey on Will Microsoft Subsidize WinXP For Lindows Buyers? · · Score: 5, Informative

I recently bought a bare bones, no-OS system from tigerdirect. I later received a survey from them via email that was a thinly veiled survey direct from Microsoft. They offered an $80 gift certificate off the purchase of XP if you filled it out. I filled it out anyway. It basically asked what OS you use, how many computers you have, what word processing program you use, and why (i.e. price, performance, features, etc.)

  10. Re:HydroPHOBIC methinks. on Self-Cleaning Glass · · Score: 1

Yeah, it should be hydrophillic. Chemist folk do studies of a surface by measuring the contact angle of a droplet of water on a surface. If the droplet seems to curl up to avoid the surface, then the surface is very hrdrophobic. If the water dropp flattens out on the surface, then the surface is very hydrophillic. If the drop completly wetts the surface, it is whupping hydrophillic.
