    You're not getting it- He and his friends had a great time it sounds like, he had the satisfaction of not being pushed around by some boneheaded rule. They did it their own damn selves.

    I cannot believe that I am on /. having to encourage anti-social behavior. What the heck has happened to this place? Do we only feel like being anti-social if it involves sitting safely in our houses and downloading copyrighted material?

    The UNU has long been known to be the UN (and hence the American-haters) shill. The addtition of the moniker "University" at the end plays on the Western world's granting of instant credibility to universities as placing of truth-seeking and teaching without bias.

    The UNU is nothing more than a bunch of Marxist propagandists that will use any useful lie and distortion if it suits there cause.

    To call UNU a university is an insult to real places of learning.

    I find your comment stikingly cynical. FYI, morotcyclists are very brand loyal- you're are a "Kawasaki rider", or you have been a "Honda Man" all your life. These people started out on a certain brand of trail bike at an early age and build trust in a product that, if not properly built can take their life. This tends to make morotcycle riders stick with a brand they trust. I think (but don't know) that European riders are even more into "their brand" than American riders since they (and their car brethren) tend to form clubs and riding groups based on the type of bike or car. Perhaps some of our European friends on /. can go into this further.

    BTW, I love the Arlington area.

    Free software does have the side effect of removing high priced, rehashed software from the market.

    Perhaps if you could back up your conjecture with facts.....cold, hard facts that are from a verifiable, unbiased source then more people would be likely to believe what you say. I desperately want to believe you......but just because someone on Slashdot says it's so.....

    I work for a small company that makes money by selling proprietary software. I'm the DBA, and get my work done using primarily free tools (MySQL, PHP, Perl, Apache, Linux, BSD.) I also write open-source software on my own time. Everybody wins.

    Very interesting perspective. I would even agree that, for now, everyone does win. However, in all honesty I have to wonder what happens when the software you wrote for free causes the business where you write for pay to go bankrupt?

    Cake? Eat it?

    Please tell me that you are not so void of emotion that you consider a scientific explanation of the relative worth of our species a valid excuse for infanticide.

    I do understand that science such as you mention could be fascinating in a disconnected, morbid sort of way but I hope that is then only basis for posting such a remark.

    I stopped reading Scientific American because of the political bullshit in there. Scientists have gotten so political that your statement about trusting them is laughable.
