    That require more than extremely simple calculations. If you can't make a better game universe with this baby, then the problem is your game designers.

    I interviewed for a telemarketing job and was asked to read the script. I thought is was something like acting, they wanted to see how well I could read it, with inflections and such.

    Later on I realized that it wasn't the case, and asked the guy who interviewed me why they did that.

    It was a reading test.

    They wanted to see if I could read.

    They've had applicants fail the reading test.

    I was speechless. I read so much, every day, I couldn't imagine someone without that ability.

    Hell, I can't imagine what I'd DO all day without the ability to read.

    When I read that statement, I dismissed it out of hand. Unless Toyota is also inventing a magic engine, there's no way in hell they're getting 125mpg.

    They worked HARD to get 70mpg. Heck, they even hollowed out the fibers in the floor mats to shave off a few pounds!

    What nonsenese, you won't be seeing any of this stuff on the consumer market until it's actually possible to make. I've been seeing this "Crystal Storage" bunk for about a decade now. The technology may exist, but no one has figured out how to put it all together.

    Ok, now CIO's are in a bind due to the fact that the booming 90's are over with. The big magic pot of money that had been sitting in front of their desk for IT is now gone.

    The old way of getting their software SUCKS. They spent a lot, and didn't get much, and now they can't afford to do that anymore. Sure, they say the words "Open source" but you'll notice that they go to extreme measure to stay with their current software providers. Hell, they're looking FOWARED to being soaked every year with a subscription service! "We can move if the service sucks." HA! You'll continue being the bitch and you'll LIKE it.

    They'll switch to open source when they're forced to, and not a second sooner.

    Considering the before, they wouldn't consider switching at all, I'm glad that they're taking the first steps of "considering, debating, testing"

    I'd like the switch to Linux to be thought out and executed well.

    The problem is that I can't AFFORD to send IBM the drive if it dies. I'm not even sure WHICH group of drives are having problems, and I don't know the extent of IBM's refurbishing program.

    IBM practically *invernted* the 5 year warranty on HDs. I know they're good. But something really strange has happened, and they're not telling the buying public what happened. They're not rebuilding the faith.

    "I don't understand why MySQL is so popular, the only thing it has going for it is tha it's easier to install!"

    Talk is cheap. If someone is going to insinuate that the slashcode would work better with MSSQL, I want them to back it up. The only way to do that with database software is to implement it. There are far too many variables to predict the outcome.

    So, you come up and toss out a lot of technobabble. As you can tell, I'm not impressed.

    I'd bet that NASDAQ also uses DOS somewhere, why shouldn't you? You dare question the wisdom of NASDAQ!?

    Out of curiousity, how do you know Microsoft.com uses MSSQL?

    To get solid state hard drive they must be more desirable than platter HDs. All that solid state has going for it is speed. It's far more expensive, holds less data, and unless you get the expensive chips, looses all data when the power is turned off.

    Current HD tech has HD's maxing out at 400GB. I'd perfer the robustness of solid state, but platter drives are simply better at this time.

    Imagine a solid state file server though! Sigh.

    If the chip performs as well as the Inetl chip marked with the same number of Mhz, then the numbers DO mean speed.

    You might as well say that Intel is being dishonest by saying the Mhz rating on the chip indicates speed.

    What a STUPID metric. So, if we spend exactly as much money this time and only kill 600 people, then it's 1 BILLION DOLLARS per casuality! My god! We just keep getting more and more inefficient at this killing stuff!

    News Flash, wholesale slaughter is dirt cheap, but won't give us the results we desire.

    BTW, that number seems a little high, what are your sources?

    Ok, their claim, that within 6 years, their chips will be really amazing. I'm surprised that anyone on Slashdot doesn't have a passing familiarity with Moore's law.

    Other late breaking news, within 6 years:

    Cars will be more fuel-efficient
    LCD monitors will be larger
    HDTV will be more common
    More people will be on the Internet
    The Playstation 4 will be released

    I'm shocked that this, this PR move is being shown on Slashdot!
