"It used to be that you could apply for a job with a fraction of the experience stated as "required." I don't know whether the economic crash has changed this substantially, but it never hurts to apply."
Um, yes. If you can find an IT job post AT ALL they want the skills, ALL of the skills they ask for. No matter how silly.
I see a lot of "I was just kind of there" posts. Well that worked great in the 90's when people were desperate for ANY kind of tech help.
I thought that was interesting. Pixar could of used more realistic eyes, but instead went for the muppet/cartoonish look. Why did they not want their monsters to be realistic?
Or is it just easier to make a toy when the monster is designed like that?
Oh yeah. The fans are just running away screaming.
Star Wars fans are George Lucas's BITCH. He doesn't have the time to bitch slap all the whiners, but I suspect he'll start hiring people to do the job after this next movie makes ANOTHER billion for him.
The loyal fans will buy the DVD of this movie, then buy the next 5 alteration and "Remakes" of this movie.
I'll tell you EXACTLY what it will be like if we ever come up with a brain to computer interface. It will be like sitting in front of a computer, giving commands.
It will be one way, except for the few brave souls who will allow the computer to actually talk back. They will perish after a BSOD or accidentally programming an endless loop.
Wait until we evolve into a race of psychic super beings! Able to stop a mans heart with a thought. Bending time and space to allow us to travel to distant stars. The ability to read a man's mind will render the entire Judicial system obsolete!
Somewhere, in the Antarctic, a box suspended on a white parachute floats down. If one was to read the label on the side of the box, it would say "Complete and full disclosure of all server protocols."
You would have to be quick though. Upon landing, the parachute and the snow would quickly obscure the label.
"Yes, we released all the info to the public. They just have to go pick it up."
The one thing I didn't like about Alpha Centauri was how quickly everyone went though tech advances. It was a waste of time to implement anything but defensive units and a few fast striking combat units.
This can be seen as a way of dodging blame. After all, US rocket tech. is mature. You can't blame these guys for buying US rockets, unless you can point out a country that builds them better.
(I'm seriously interested in seeing how China's space program develops.)
Stop being so defensive. Now, tell me how a dictionary is going to catch a word that's spelled correctly. Forth is a word. It's the WRONG word, but is a real word.
I normally cut and paste my posts to WP with spell checking.
If you spend your time with grown, sophisticated adults, 99% of the entertainment out there is beneath you.
Go pick up "The Golden Compass" and read it. You'll find this book in the childrens section.
BTW, I hated the first Harry Potter book. It was childish and boring. But after reading the HUGE response on slashdot after the forth book won a Hugo, I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did.
People buy them cause many employeers don't check the name of the "Univeristy" against a list of known diploma mills.
I know a guy who's having a great time at his job after getting his "Masters"
I read somewhere that the NRA membership doubled during the Clinton era.
Jeesus...have you visited a game store in this century?
I deserve nothing. Everything that is in my possesion has gotten there by one of three ways.
Being bought, made, or taken.
But my original point (that you missed) was that 30$ is a sizable amount of money.
Ahem, for those of us who have to work temp jobs to get by in this economy, 30$ is over 4 hours work.
Airplanes don't use 110 AC.
And if you were an Airline, would you want to be responsible for the line quality going to people's seats?

They're not desperate anymore.

Stop that.
Stop being an annoying futurist.

Sorry, futurists annoy me.
Yeah I can see it now.

Is Civ 3 like this?

That's pretty sad, the link in the article to another ZDNet article dealing with intel brings up a "Article not found" page.
Yesh, but everything that would be in range to see the smoke trail, is either dead or on fire.
And normal geeks who have graduated college but don't have "X years using system Y in a working enviroment" on their resume.
You must of hated Wierd Al's song then. :-)
Xanth? I stopped reading those after he constructed a novel completely of puns that his readers sent in.

Why don't you move your lazy fingers and do a search on slashdot for the topic "Harry Potter" and "Hugo Winner"
6 sentences. Sheesh. How can you manage a whole book?

Huh? The paperbacks are 7 or 8$. The local Barnes and Noble were giving 20% off also.
You can do more than just sit around and drink coffee in a bookstore these days.
Odyssey rocked.
Ahem, that's because it's still a Luxury item. Price have gone down a LOT since a year ago. And they're still improving the tech every year.
I wouldn't bother with a 32 in HDTV, but a widescreen 50in+ screen that makes my DVDs look beatiful is on my list of things to buy.
If you do most of your shopping at K-mart,Wal-mart and Target stores, HDTV is not an option for you.
