I like the direction you take on this, however your extrapolation leads me to wonder if Cyc (or a similar system) would replace or reduce human curiosity. "Cyc said it can't be done, so there you go."
Speaking for myself (which I do often) I would like to be able to dictate something to my computer, tell it to send a copy to Bob and Alice, change all the red squares to blue circles in a range of documents, remove the commercials from this TV show, and call Alice if she's at work, and send her a card at home...
A computer is capable of all these things, sure; I'd like to give orders and have the computer write the code for the script, or task. This would be the truly useful thing for me.
I read about Cyc back when it was just getting started; it would be nice if these kind of everyday applications were usable.
There are many guitar effects, ect. out there that use a tube to sound "warmer". Crap. Gimmicks. Marketing dudes saying, "Tube amps are good, tube walkmans are better!" Blah.
If you want real quality sound, you had better go out and get something that is made for it. This is the solution that I purchased, and it rocks. (I do not work for them, and my needs/wants may differ from yours, so YMMV.) Their soundcard is completely shielded, and silent. I love it.
If you want "tube" warmth, go and get a real tube pre and/or amp. Tubes make a big difference, but not here.
Due to the undeniable ignorance of the consumer that Sonic Blue and Tivo has shown, I have started distributing my own PVR and PVR service called Steve-O.
The PVR itself is easy to use, and allows you to record any show you want! Unlike Tivo's poor hardware model, I have designed a system with unlimited storage, in the form of inexpensive 'cartridges'. Unlike Sonic Blue's cold digital picture, Steve-O's warm analog signal gives every character a healthy, ruddy glow! Buffy never looked so good!
Steve-O's excellent service is unrivaled in the industry! Find out what's playing anytime, day or night by calling the Programming Line: Steve Ballmer at 1-888-Vel-0P3R. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have, as well as offer program selections! (MSNBC is always a favorite!) Your information is safe because he never writes anything down!
Steve-O's start at just $299! That includes a lifetime subscription to the Steve-O service and three empty cartridges! Call now!
I am with you on that. I am trying to connect my home (xp and beos) and work (OSX, 9) w/ VNC through 2 router/fwls and am feeling like a big more-on. Have had no luck so far; looked on google and couldn't find any info that is applicable to me. I know it's a simple? thing, but having to do all my home config at lunch, and hoping it works when I get back to work, sucks.
I saw Gremlins in the theater and own the book, so I feel I'm pretty much an expert in this field.
1) Don't feed them after midnight.
2) Don't let them get wet.
3) For Pete's sake, the small cute ones are the reason we're in this mess. Do not be fooled by their disarming mewling sounds! 4) And this is the important one, Don't EVER forget, ancient Asian men in antique shops will always sell you something cheaply, but the cost in the long term is not worth the trouble.;)
Why do people buy pirated CDs/DVDs?
1.Price
2.Availabillity
3...uh. I can't think of anymore..
Assuming noone is making a point of civil disobedience, the reasons to CONSUME a pirated disc are few. If someone doen't want to pay for a software program or crappy music by one of today's artists, they will get a pirate cd, or make one themselves.
That's where availabillity comes in. If someone can't find Nick Drake's Pink Moon at their small town Walmart, they can get it over the net.
None of the arguments used by the *IAAs target either of these, because it makes pirating THEIR fault. (Too much $$/not enough content & We don't bother to keep that in stock/ Are you sure you don't mean Nick-elback?)

It does not take up any of your recording capacity - it is stored in a seperate reserved space. You still have 40 hours of recording capacity on a standard TiVo.
I would be interested to know where this space comes from, and if it is hackable to add to the 40 hours.
The Dossa & Jo promo contains some bad language and is unsuitable for younger viewers. Parental controls are not effective so be careful.
Doesn't this interfere with my choices as a parent? If I don't want my kids to watch this, am I SOL? Sounds like a recipe for pissing off lots of people. Really fast.

It thinks its an Ipod!
I'll need a copy of the database and the passwords, then I'll get back to you. Oh, It'll cost you $19.95, too.
Insanely enough, NPR and MPR are doing this to an extent too. Even public radio and TV have fallen victim to product placement. :(

Just Curious. Stay tuned for my review of "Gleaming the Cube" and an analysis of the Coreys in modern cinema.
So is Yucca Mountain. We can put some nuclear waste there.
Blah. Blah. Blah.
I believe I've covered that.
I'm talking about the gross inabillity of the human race to NOT defile its (only) home with pollution. I am aware "we" have been around for awhile.
Either way, not good.
We still haven't figured out how to live on this planet. Why go wreck more?

This sounds so Zen. What's the difference?
Too bad, so sad.
Totally bo-gus.
So like, if, you were, you know, tweak-in over losin' yer info, da weiz will give ya a tick-et to his new mov-ie.
Cool, buuuddie.

BTW IANAP (I AM NOT A PARENT)
I saw 'The Scorpion King'. The Rock is a Tool.
I pick getting kicked in your nuts.
'Cause I didn't.
