"We must stop these anti-hydrogen terrorists, I am informed that hydrogen is in things we use everyday like coke, and is even vital to Americans' survival. These people who are anti-hydrogen are anti-american and are seeking to destroy the very basis of our society, you can not be a friend of america if you are not a friend of hydrogen"
If you don't pay for HBO you don't get it. Their license does not include DRM on the recordings but there certainly is Management of access even though the information is available to the box.
I know that few can see that this is DRM, and that the "new" DRM ideas are just extensions to many of these ideas but applied to commodity items rather than big ticket elements like live sports broadcasts.
Watching One Design races is much more interesting on these short (less than several days) races. Every boat is identical so its purely down to the skill of the sailors. This makes for tight races rather than the first race making clear who has the best boat.
And for real interest watch old working boats racing, slow as hell and there is always a crash or near crash.
This isn't DRM in action, this is a plain and simple case of a bug. Sure some channels are "open" but they still need to be decoded by something. The config or code or whatever it is was done incorrectly so all channels were scrambled.
This isn't getting a taste of DRM, its the digital equivalent of your analogue signal being blocked by bad weather or the antenna falling off the roof.
DRM already exists on cable, that is exactly what subscribing to HBO is about, so they already have experience of it. This however is giving them the same experience on their TV that they know and love on their Windows box... failure.

A good way to sell 3D games is to include screen shots in the demos to give people an idea of what they are going to see....
Even a link to a site with screen shots would be a plan.
A standard desktop ? Then how will all the prima-donna point out how their desktop is so much better because of this or that bell and whistle.
What a horrible idea, leveling the playing field and have a standard theme that concentrates on usability and then a pure battle of abilities to determine who underpins it. If there can be no differentation in terms of buttons and icons then how would people judge if not by "see-through windows" v "tear-off tabs" and other such pointless arguments and wars.
Terrible concept, concetrate a team on a decent standard theme, and then have competition for the best engine behind it....
Umm wait, isn't this in effect the same as the Video card market where standards have led to the engines (the cards) being bought and swapped purely on the grounds of ability, sure each has "special" instructions, but for 99% of applications no one cares.
Oh and isn't it the same as the PC market, one instruction set, AMD v Intel.
Oh I see, thats what they want, what a great idea now I understand.
The beauty of this experiment is not just the effect that it generates but the way it simply demonstrates a complex phenomena. By complex I mean that it demonstrates that light travels as waves, until you fire only 1 photon then you prove it travels as particles as well.
Simple, brilliant and something that the more you learn about physics the more you learn about what the experiment shows.

I know you have to be different by the European standard body for this stuff has a standard called MHP Have a look which already does all of this stuff. The organisation is called DVB that produces this, most of the rest of the planet has gone with the DVB specs and MHP as a future technology direction.
If you want everything to be different the go ahead, but wouldn't it be better all round if the box manufacturers could get cost multiples based on a world market rather than just the US, that way the price of the box could be driven even further down. And with an end game of PS3s being set-up as MHP boxes so you buy that and you've got the box.
OpenCable have taken much of the DVB work and "tweaked" it enough to make it non-standard with DVB because of "differences" in the US market. The reality is that they've done this to keep a closed market rather than face the fact that TV is TV and iTV is just iTV the place where its broadcast is completely immaterial.
