wps was a great desktop. The one thing IBM ever had to do besides actually market it, was to hire some artists to look at it because it first appearance was horrifying. Actually I tried a life version of ecomm or whatever it's called these days and it still had that same butt ugly first appearance.. shame..
May be, but why call it "open source"? There's nothing open about the source besides being able to look at it.. The fact that i can turn it into wallpaper still makes it useless for what I consider open source..
Sounds more like a "shared source" (look, don't touch) than "open source" to me.. Especialy the freedom part doesn't seem to be there as the open source implementation is needed to get a patent. So the contents is patented and unusable as open source.. Or did I mis something here?
actually that was my first thought too.. The pcode and the lispmachine Both basicaly had their interpreter in hardware or software and are only remembered in "history of computer" style documents.. FAR before all this patent mess..
Nope.. remove konq. and you will have a functional desktop. Afaik all protocols (io_slaves) are still usable through the usual channels (selection boxes etc). The parts can still be called from whichever app cares. firefox is a good alternative browser and I'm sure there are alternative filebrowsers too (midnight commander?)
But I guess it's a compliment to kde that everything looks and feels so integrated and polished..;-)
But then again, KDE runs on top of X which runs on top of the kernel. No intergration there. Just applications running. If an KDE application blocks for whatever reason I control-alt-esc in the normal case or control-alt-backspace in the worst case. But I NEVER had to restart the kernel or the machine.. And konq. is just an other application, or even beter, a shell for a number of kparts.
Actually it's closer to the old dos pctools shell which started dosprograms to do things, than to IE with its close intergration into more or less everything and worse of all the kernel.
Let's think about that one. You think anyone could prove this time around MS has a monopoly when there are millions of Linux users out there?
Do we already make the whole 1% ? And reducing that number by the servers (non-desktop after all) what is left. The monopoly is as strong as ever and IF there's a recognizable number of alternative desktops it will have to be Apple..
Ayes, I'm among the 1%..;) It's just reality kicking in..
Maybe, but imho it's one of the many small steps which will lead to robots who can behave in a human society. As for tolerating, people seem to tolerate almost everything these days. Just use the magic "terrorism" word..
The last time I had to deal with the MS helpdesk they told me to remove all the non-MS software from the machine, starting with QEMM.. (yeah, I'm gray by now..;-) and replace it by that piece of donkey output of theirs.. Never bothered again.. Even then it was a complete wast of time..
Just a beef wine cream recipe comes up with a whole bunch recipes to use. Actually I don't really understand the original question "a google for recipes". There's google, there's the keyword recipe. What else does one need?
that, and it's ability to work with BIG documents, nicely cut up in chapters and a master document. The ease with which one could generate indexes and the fact that one could actually understand what was going on and fix it.. Maybe it was just geekappeal, but I never felt as much in controle of my documents like in WP..
Maybe, on the other side it used to be that I read things first on/. But nowadays a lot of the news is at least a week old.. (that is, if it isn't a repost..;) But it must be a quiet day as this item was quickly posted..

But then again, what is it that they want to accomplice? If it is to become the best searchengine, they have a lot off work to do.. But if the main point is to keep people inside their MSN network things are much easier. Just put a search field on every page and there you go. If the results are oke'ish, most people will be satisfied and MS can put their commercials and such. After all if the MS monopoly has proven anything it is that barely good enough is more than enough for a lot of people..

Those illiterate enough to prefer the lame disney video's over the original stories?

No, imho the patent eliminates the usefullness of the open source implementation..

Only if we also get a
-1 yawn
-2 blablabla..
Laplink? A real voice from the past..
So? Just create a symbolic link to unmount (or in your case to umount) and there you go.. worries over..
Not really as a lot of people who are hardly used to a commandline anymore will type:
unmount^H^H^H^H^H^Hmount
or in the best case
un^Hmount
Yeah. the belly button of the world.. collecting all the fluf...
Guess it all depends on if it is an european thunderbird or an african thunderbird..
Just trough out a pile of 1200/75 viditext modems.. But then again, that's probably a crime against humanity..

They had at most some 12 points difference between them. And no, shorter should be older..
Actually looking your your both id's, he's here a little longer than you..;-))

Yeah, and i'm not really impressed. It just adds a few sites to the search:
beef wine cream (site:allrecipes.com | inurl:epicurious | inurl:recipesource | site:cooking.com | inurl:Recipezaar )

Yeah, but was the complete name not "Microsoft Windows" as opposed to "X windows" or "glass windows"?
So the real issue here is how much "Microsoft Windows" looks alike "lindows"..
