I'm sure it depends on the drive and situation, but think of it this way. Would you want your data that's spinning round-n-round at 7200 RPM hot to the touch, or would you want it vibrating, possibly throwing off the constant spinning? I'd say fan be damned, keep it still.
Hehehe... sorry. I know, but still. That picture, with that caption, looking so serious, just cracks me up.

Looks very nice, but I'm sure that the comments are going to be flooded with comments claiming that KDE is only trying to be more like Windows. However, what people fail to see is that Linux isn't trying to replace the desktop metaphore, the conventional UI. What I've thought of Linux to be is an open, reliable, stable Windows. One created by anyone with the skill and time, for anyone. Started on the server, it didn't need big buttons and pretty colors. However now that it is being developed for everyone, the way KDE is developing just showes that it's moving in the right direction. Towards an open, stable Windows.
I convinced someone trying to sell me long distance that I did NOT have a phone.
Sir, could I speak to the owner of the household? >That's me. And you have no phone? >Correct. You are at YOUR house? >Yep. And you OWN the house? >Yes. Yet you have no phone? >Nope. No phone.
Went on for about 15 minutes. I think he started to belive it at the end.
Two main buttons, one side button (for that scroll window with the arrows type thing), and two buttons in the middle. Up and down, like a wheel, but not.
OPERA?!?! Here's another chance to plug my favorate browser...
The Opera Composer allows sysadmins such as yourself to make a custom installer with almost all the features you wanted. That, and you get pretty much everything you need with the newest Opera 7 (MUCH better CSS and general everything complience).
Try it out, you might just want Opera instead of Mozilla.
Ah. But then, did they 'SELL' you the card, or just a license to use it until the physical material it was made with broke? I dunno, I agree with you, and know that's a load of bull shit. I just like being the 'what if' idiot.
I think it's just because they found out that no one will support them, and they will eventualy fail. They spend millions on these things, and then people with REAL knowledge of computers defeat them (Black marker, anyone?). Since this stuff has started they havn't been able to keep their website online for more then a month, showing their lack of computer knowledge, and the knowledge of the people they are pissing off.
Sounds to me like it's not all humor, but some truth. They have found that the market WILL NOT EAT their bullshit, so they are stepping back as carefully as they can in order to not look like the bunch of spineless techno-asswipes they are.
PS. The earlier story was a fake. Obviously it was that stupid hacking groups way of showing a vunerability in MPG123, and nothing more.
First of all, (if)/when IE did this it was following an internet standard. Also, the test is years old (see earlier link). Not only that, but it has been documented several times that IF it ever did that, it doesn't anymore. Before you blindly bash Microsoft again, you might want to look at this comment, and realize that you don't get to be a company as big as Microsoft without knowing what you are doing. And before the flaimes for that start rolling in, I'll point out that Microsoft HAS written an extreamly complex and for many purposes wonderfull operating system. Also, their Office apps are top of the line. I'm not the one to go and get lesser quality applications so I can say to the girls 'Hey baby, wanna see a non-MS PC'?
The scanner has a CCD; I don't have to slide the barcode.
Funny, and I've implemented something similer with a CueCat, but he would have to slide the barcode if it was a CueCat. Also, barcodes for entry arn't very secure. If anyone gets ahold of your card for 10 seconds, they can make a photocopy and have your security level. A magnetic stripe would have been a better choice for REAL security however, because it takes more elaborate equipment to duplicate.
My house is freezing, and I wouldn't be able to survive in my computer room (Basement, AKA utility room) without the heat. Good for corperations, not for me. Anyone else use spare clock cycles for warmth?
Exactly! I thought I was the only one disturbed by the first click me. Actually, to tell you the truth, after that link text has started to scare me.
How far did they go? Were they actually able to re-attach the nerves? Does he have feeling in his jaw?
