  7. The reason why the Xbox is failing on PS2 Vs. X-Box: Winner Emerging? · · Score: 1

The xbox offers nothing signifigantly different to the ps2.

It may be the technicaly better console but at the end of the day No one cares about that unless they can see the difference in the games. To be able to see this you need a hdtv and the majority of us plebs do not have this device.

Game developers want to sell software ,when they are deciding if they want to make games for a console they look at the console's user base, the console with the largest userbase is the console that is most profitable to develop for.To date sony have sold 27 million ps2's ,microsoft are looking to sell 4.5 to 6 million they have not met this target , that means that atm the xbox's userbase is less than one fifth of of the ps2's.

Now at this point I am sure some one will
say ,"but it is easy to port pcgames to the xbox", or ,"but microsoft can just give developers loads of money to develop for the console" .The problem's with these points are one in the same. The games were not made for the xbox and they are not exclusive to the xbox.Pcgames that get ported to consoles usualy suffer in terms of implimentation ,(for example redalert on psone or maxpayne on the ps2/xbox both of which have problems in the console version ,(area loading problems in mp),),and do not set the xbox apart from other console's.

If the xbox does not have a large user base you can not expect game developers to develop exclusive title's for the xbox which take full advantage of the xbox's hardware and which would set it apart from its competition ,( gamecube , ps2),and if there is nothing which sets the xbox apart from the ps2 why buy it .

From the very start ,I saw the xbox as a typical microsoft product. An unimaginative copy which was not done very well and which had little or nothing to set it apart from it's competition.
I say this as gamer and not as some one just taking a cheap shot at microsoft.Unless microsoft do something drastic Like say bring out a ps2 emulator which would allow you to play copied ps2 games or some other amazing feature The xbox will fail and microsoft will not get a second chance.

So Many card owning zealot's on both sides Have expressed there views and now I the confused consumer find myself attempting to interpret and hence pick and purchase.

Initialy I was in the market for 2 new card's,one to play my current favorite fps and one to record tv to mpeg2,(at a decent resolution), both of which had to work under linux and both had to be within my budget.

Now initialy the choice seemed simple , a nvidia card for gaming and some other card for tv.Then the 8500/7500radeon'swith all of the seemingly nice pvr options came out and suddenly my inital options seemed a bit broader.

I have yet to see some one lay out the pro's and con's of the 8500/7500dv in a non biased way .
There are plenty of reviews of the card's performance under window's , I have yet to see a review of how the card performes under linux. This I presume is due to the ati linux driver situation Which so many nvidia users have gleefully pointed out.

So many ati fans laud the fact that nvidia's drivers are closed,(?), and so many nvidia fans
point out that ati's linux performance is less than amazing and that ati's drivers are only slightly more open than nvidia's,(???).To me this whole situation is confusing.

Basicly from what I can decipher atm ati's radeon 8500/7500 dv drivers for linux do not full fill what I want them to do,(capture tv and play games under linux ), and therefore atm these two cards are not for me.

I would prefer to support ati over nvidia as they 'seem' the more open of the two companies
However there performance or rather the performance of the 3rd party people who develop there drivers seems under somewhat under par.

So in conclusion I think I am going to stick with an nvidia card for gaming under linux and shop around for a different capture card.I am really looking for suggestions as to what i should buy and would be happy to listen to any advice anyone has to offer on this matter

    "What makes a person weak?"

Synonyms: weak, feeble, frail, 1fragile, infirm, decrepit, debilitated
These adjectives mean lacking or showing a lack of strength. Weak is the most widely applicable: "These poor wretches... were so weak they could hardly sit to their oars" (Daniel Defoe). Feeble suggests pathetic or grievous physical or mental weakness or hopeless inadequacy: a feeble intellect; a feeble effort. Frail implies delicacy and inability to endure or withstand: "an aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small" (Thomas Hardy.). What is fragile is easily broken, damaged, or destroyed: a fragile, expensive vase; a fragile state of mind after the accident. Infirm implies enfeeblement: "a poor, infirm, weak, and despis'd old man" (Shakespeare). Decrepit describes what is weakened, worn out, or broken down by hard use or the passage of time: a decrepit building slated for demolition. Debilitated suggests a gradual impairment of energy or strength: a debilitated constitution further weakened by overwork.

What makes a person anything ? what makes a person strong what makes a person happy. These are all things which are subjective.

"You seem to say it as if anyone who commits suicide is a feeble and weak person"
That is true, suicide,(in this particular context), comes from an inability to deal with life which implies that the person is/was not strong enough to deal with there own personal situation,(i.e they were to weak to do so),and hence took there own life.

However mental strength is a relative term. Some people can deal with life better than other's.So when the guy said ,"nah, the weak kill themselves.",he was in my opinion correct, weak people do kill them selves.

"Are you somehow much stronger and better person than all these people that commit suicide? "

now that is a question I can not answer.

Rms believes all software should be free,(as in speech not nessecarily price),.Rms comes from the west and it could rightly and easily be said that the fact that he comes from this well off area makes it easy for him to have this point of view. But The question is not whether it is easy or not for him to have this point of view but rather do you agree with him or do you think he is wrong?

If rms was from india would it make what he says any more right or wrong ? What rms say's should
be the issue and not where he is from.If you agree or dissagree with him on the point that all software should be free ,well that is a matter of opinion and that is another issue.

India has a rich philosophical and cultural tradition ,(despite being impoverished),and this was in my opinion what rms was alluding to when he made the comment,"In India there are a number of people who are capable of seeing free software as an ethical and social issue".I think that the Indians are more than capable of grasping the ethical and social issues that free software highlights and deciding individualy how they want to live and deal with it.If indians decide that a concept is right or a concept is wrong ,it will not matter where that concept came from.
