In another 10 years I want to be able to pull up this post to prove to my kids I was cool. Oh wait Im posting to a slackware thread... Oh well Happy BDAY Slackware! You were my first and made my the geek I am today!
Just a warning to all you knew virgins trying out slackware, BE GENTAL and HAVE FUN!
thats the beauty of linux, WRITE THE SOFTWARE your self. Opensource it then you will be all set, plus if you look at the article they show that screen rotation works perfectly. ALso microsoft has been very lazy with the tablet and hasnt intergrated ink support into anything but Windows Journal.
They have already distrobuted the box sets to local compusa stores. Talk to any manager and they will sell it to you early. Just mention you want to buy the service contract for it.
I have a ibook, the ibook powercord died, I called apple, they said they could send me another one but they needed my credit card number and they were gonna put a hold on my account for $150! I asked them why dont you just bill me if I dont return the defective unit. They said no, so I couldnt get a new powercord. I cant afford to have $150 held up until apple feels like unholding it. It could take weeks!
THey said I could go to the apple store, but that is like 30 miles away from me. I wish they would make it easier for me. and I know other companies dont put holds on credit cards.
Also One time I bought apple care from compusa, they were out of stock but they had one that was open. So I bought it thinking its just a service, who cares if its open. So I called Apple and tried to register it and they said it was already registered. So I asked them if they could call compusa and verify if I bought it. They wouldnt do it and I got screwed out of a $250 dollar apple care.
How expensive is this thing? A top dollar sony cam is around $1799 and a low end crusoe computer should cost less than $999 so how much does this little beautiy cost?
I love these sony mini laptops, they are so sweet.
To bad they only have a 90 day warranty....

I love linuxhardware.org, they talk about the 3 main things I love, Linux, SMP and hardware!
how can you not like your ibook? Awesome laptop, Im writing this from my ibook now. I sell PC laptops and they just dont compair. But if you are going to buy a PC laptop I would recommend a Toshiba laptop. They are far better than anything else on the PC market.
I use Gentoo Linux on my ibook and since I can compile all my code for my g3 cpu, I notice a huge speed increase between linux and macosx. Since My cpu doesnt take advantage of altivec apps that are compiled for altivec run slow on a g3. Apps that are directly compiled for a g3 will run 20-30% faster. Of course apple could make Macosx faster for g3 people if they recompiled the OS with out altivec support, but they cant do that. With My g4 system I dont see a huge speed difference in linux unless I use more aggressive gcc optimizations. Anyway, Linux on a g3 will always run faster than macosx on a g3.
The dock is great, it is a quick link to your favorite icons, and you can easily see what apps are running. Of course I hate minimizing so I use window shade to fold up my windows. So the dock is very usefull to me... I love being able to hold down my mouse button over a icon that is running, and go to quit. Very nice feature.
Gentoo is a great distro, but i wouldnt recommend it to any newbies... Slackware is also a fun distro to use, but gentoo has better package management.
I was reading this article and I saw the icon for the gimp, you know the weird looking dog creature. Well anyways it freaked me out when I saw its freaking eyes move! I kinda got scared... DAMN MOVING GIF FILES!
I wish I could find some good Linux PVR software, tried mythtv but its only recommended with use with a tv out and a tv set and a remote, I need one I can use on my monitor with mouse support (so I can scroll up and down with my mouse).. Plus it needs to have smooth playback, unlike mythtv, I have dual p3 700mhz cpus, and mythtv runs like a dog on them.
Right now in linux I use "Vcr" to record tv shows, with this script: #!/bin/bash killall motv killall xawtv killall -9 vcr vcr -g/dev/video0 -c 'divx;-) low-motion' -v -p 40 -F 23 -q 100 -m mono -b 64 -t 60m savedshow.avi
Learn to use the command line and not a pretty gui, it will teach you alot about how Unix and Linux works, Plus it makes you look cool to your friends when ur flying though the command line:)
well, considering the servers were 3com/USR total control boxes, and the customers modems were HSP 56 win modems, I knew the modem would fix their problems. I wasnt about to disable all their start up programs so they could have more resources. (that breaks alot of things)

but that doesnt have a geforce 3 in it... and its ugly, a xbox computer is pretty damn sexy if you ask me...

Please apple get your act together
ENABLE GTK2 and you will have some amazing looking fonts!
buy a warranty on it and you will be all set... A person that doesnt buy a warranty on a laptop is a idiot...

keep it coming guys!
why would you dual boot between linux and windows? are you crazy?
adobe is compairing a dual 1.25ghz g4 tower to a 3.06 p4. Why not compair it to the dual 1.42ghz g4?
??

Why would any geek run macosx on their mac? Linux is so much more flexable and stable! Aqua doesnt compair to KDE/GNOME!!

why cant i just use the usb adapter on my pc?

When I was in Tech Shop in highschool I wired up a capasitor wrong and it blew a hole in the desk I was using, I was scared shitless
The new 4191 drivers break my gnome 2.1.2, its makes my pixmaps transparent..
I hope they fix this! older drivers work fine!
scroll up and down with my mouse should change the channels, sorry
