i'm not going to read all that crap. give me a freaking summary.
3 weeks is a sufficient amount of time
to be able to expect even a reply about a given vulnerability. A patch
for the vulnerability was attached to the mails, and in the PaX team's
mails, a working exploit as well. Private notification of
vulnerabilities is a privilege, and when that privilege is abused by not
responding promptly, it deserves to be revoked.
Canada is running a budget surplus, and has been for years.
The federal government maybe, but here in Manitoba we keep electing these extremely left leaning NDP idiots who have no idea how to balance their budget.
mplayer has -ao and -vo (audio out and video out) redirection options so you can dump streams to files on your disk
mplayer -dumpstream <URL>
would probably work better. Optionally, you can use '-dumpfile <filename>' to specify the filename to save as, otherwise it just names it stream.dump in the current working dir.
Nope, that doesn't work. I -am- the caretaker of -my- computer.
You also own your computer (probably). GP was making a stupid analogy between an apartment he doesn't own, and a computer that he does. In that case the administrator is analogous to the caretaker.
In the case of your own computer, you should be free to take chances, and do all kinds of stupid things if you so choose. You can pay someone to fix it after it blows up too.

It's all of those things now. When I was a kid pot was $15/gram. These days it's $5 if it costs anything at all.
this is a major reason why pot/coke/etc. remain illegal -- those currently reaping the profits only do so because these substances are illegal
I'm not big on conspiracy theories. I think it has everything to do with years of disinformation being shouted at the public. It's just not PC (in the states at least) to show support for decriminalization. Here in Canada the majority of the population supports it so it's not quite so taboo; you can say drug laws are stupid here, and you're not quite so likely to be labelled a crackpot. However there is still a stigma attached to marijuana users, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
And illicit drugs -- now there's a market where bold entrepreneurs (read: scumbags) can chisel easy money out of people who have few or no alternatives.
Not true. I have way more choices when it comes to drug dealers than I do phone companies. Its a LOT easier to buy pot than it is to buy beer a lot of the time from the government controlled monopoly here.
Seems to work okay. The window stays on top all the time until you minimize it, and its not easy to restore it once its minimized. I have to right click a 1x8 pixel systray applet, and click "Open". But it does run.
Dr. Richard Feynman is an excellent physics lecturer, I'd recommend anyone who is interested in these topics check him out. There's tonnes of audio on ed2k as well.

Yes, I realize that. How many companies purchase a full office suite, for every desktop in the building without any regard for who will actually use it or not though, even if Wordpad would suit their needs just as well, let alone abiword. LOTS of them. Relative to what companies spend on wages, hardware, and software licensing $699 per CPU on their Linux machines is a pittance. And these are Fortune 500 companies they are targetting, not small businesses with shoestring IT budgets.

You would be amazed at some of the things that corporations will waste money on. $699 is peanuts. The fact that more haven't bought the license is testimony to how rediculous their prospects are. Considering when they sent out their letters before in the US hardly anyone knew anything about SCO, I doubt they will have any more luck in Europe now.
Didn't Germany order them to shut up until they have proof of violations?
I read somewhere that some cars can sense if you put in E85, and will adjust accordingly.
I doubt it.
right now about 12% of US gasoline contains ethanol, vs 5% in Canada.
Bullshit. Ethanol blends higher than 10% would void the warranty of your car. The most common blen in US and Canada is 10%, called "E10".

Considering it's IBM's project it isn't surprising they are #1 but what is, is how close we are to beating them in this short amount of time.

I can install software both on my linux system an on my mac without being root. I just install it into my home directory.
/home is mounted noexec for that reason.
Not on my machines.
I think you mean:
Welcome, I'm your landlord. Don't try to fix the furnace yourself you idiot, thats why we have a caretaker.

You can't install shit.
You're not supposed to be able to. Thats the point.
It's not worth the trouble, if you know what you're doing
If you know what you're doing, its no trouble.
If it didn't, wouldn't that technically be a violation of the GPL?

Only because he didn't install the Installer. It, and most things work fine once you do that. Transgaming/Cedega can go f*&# themselves.

mozillaZine is a great resource too. Especially the knowledge base , forum, and #mozillazine on irc.mozilla.org
isn't there an official Javascript reference on the net?
Devedge used to be the place, but AOL seems to have killed it. See bugzilla.mozilla.org #264184. (Their bugzilla doesn't allow referals from slashdot)
