Replace the FBI warning and the neverending trailers by a simple EULA screen giving you the right to screw us, our relatives, and our children's children's down to the fish pet for the next 10 generation to come, everybody will agree without reading and enjoy your movies.
Everybody wins. The consumer is happy with your product, and you guys can have a powerblast with your new rights over the american population and pursue your desecration of Disney's name and humble goals.
Shhh, don't say that too loud, what if someone from Disney is reading. Do you want to give them any ideas?
I wouldn't leave it to those guys to get anything right when it comes to actual security. M$ wants to put their own kind of "security" into the hardware architecture of every new PC sold. I'm willing to bet that one of these "security" features is to make it impossible to run alternative OS's and probably OSS altogether. And who knows what kind of stuff M$ puts into their code, they could probably have large backdoors that the user is totally oblivious to.
It would be nice to see some US currency to have a little bit more definition among denominations. I don't get why there are so many that are afraid that colored money will make then 'fruity', does it really matter?
Besides, in a few years we might end up being a cashless society anyway and banknotes won't matter anymore.
If the censorship lists are to be kept secret, how can the Australian people know that there aren't sites or pages being put up because they offer a differing political view of something done by governments?
I can imagine that a list like this can (and probably will) be misused by the Australian Government in order to block the sites of certain people or organizations that dare to question the government, especially during political campaigns like elections.
Now I live in Canada and I can see some examples of attempted censorship by our news and media because they question the ethics of the polictial party currently in power.
BUT, I'm not saying that the Canadian Government, won't (or already hasn't) pass an equally violating, if not, worse legislation than what the Aus. Government is proposing.
You know nowadays, just about any legislation could get passed that would not only be completely ineffective, but will threaten your freedom and/or invade your privacy, if it can be justified as part of 'fighting Terrorism'.
But then of course, some of my opinions have been proven to be wrong, and I just hope that this above opinion will never become fact.
This sort of reminds me...

I already did that at least. Now if only I knew how to remap the alt keys to the spaces where the hot keys used to be, and installed a wider spacebar, that would make a great keyboard for my needs.
I probably could never get used to this type of keyboard, I'll be like having to learn to type all over again for me (not like I can type very well anyway).
As much as a completely flat & rectangular keyboard cramps up my wrists, this keyboard would be just plain awkward for me. the keyboard I use is pretty tame compared to the radical design of this vertical type, but I remember when I bought my (Generic ergo keyboard, which resembles the M$ Natural) keyboard, I thought it was quite the wacky design, but it turned out to be quite comfortable, and I still use it.
I don't use Internet Explorer (Exploiter?), it seems that there's always a serious hole in IE that can compromise your entire system -- like this latest 'issue'.
...when it's justified by the government as part of their 'War on Terrorism(TM)'.
It's bad enough that 9/11 had to happen, but only now are we seeing the repurcussions the attacks through knee-jerk reations by those in power. Even if 9/11 didn't happen the NSA/FBI/CIA/etc. would (probably already) have line tapped international fiber lines, but without 9/11 it would have been harder for them to justify their actions.
to paraphrase a quote that I heard/read: when people are willing to sacrifice their rights & freedoms for an illusion of security, they deserve to have neither.
This should give me my recommended daily intake of M$-generated FUD.
Funny how Microsoft, with questionable business ethics and extremely unstable and expensive closed-source software with security holes big enough to drive a truck through, are giving these 'think tanks' money to say that Open Source Software is not only insecure, but 'Supports Terrorism(TM)'.
It seems to me that the words "Terrorism", and "Terrorist" have become such buzzwords that people will now be wracked with fear the millisecond someone makes the (however questionable) connection between a certain person/organization, object/product/location/etc. and 'Terrorism(TM)'.
The next thing you know pig lobbyists like M$ will be greasing up the lawmakers of the world to implement a worldwide ban on Open Source Software, and delclaring the act of possessing/creating/distributing/using OSS an 'Act Of Terrorism(TM)', which will result in much heavy-handed penalties: such as execution or lifetime imprisonment, because your an 'Enemy of the Free World'.
It's no use trying to argue with an Anonymous Coward who is convinced that Opera is spyware.
despite that I found no sites that that prove that Opera has spyware, this AC will still spread word that Opera is spyware because the unregistered version uses banner ads.
I'm willing to bet that this AC has known (proven) spyware such as Gator, Kazaa, Morpheus, or Radlight DivX Movie Player (at least one of the above).
And it looks great under the majority of webpages I go to, the only time when Opera doesn't render correctly is when I go to a site that has IE-centric code. I hear other people's claim that IE is superior because it renders IE-centric sites better, that's because the site is made to look good with IE by using M$ "standards".
Opera is a great browser, when a page doesn't render correctly, it's because the site's webmaster doesn't care about browsers other than IE.
One thing that pisses me off the most is when I'm denied entry to a site because I "don't have IE" and I "Need to install IE to view the site properly".
Well, actually that's the coolest part. Microsoft is selling X-Boxes at a loss, in the belief that it can make back the money on games
I Never thought of it that way, if I could open the X-Box and put my own software on it, instead of the crap that M$ strongarms onto their system, I could get a cheap somewhat useful personal computer, and an 8 GB hard disk will go a long way if you use non-bloatware software.
Running Linux/BSD/whatever else on a system built by Micro$oft -- and M$ is losing money over it, if that isn't the mother of all irony, then what is?
About whether they're going to use the actual power lines, or send data cables alongside the lines in the same conduit. Either way, I'm expecting loads of transmission errors.
If they use the power lines for data, theres something about running data down an unshielded line along with 120/240/480/7,200/110,000 volts of electricity that just shouts "High Error Rate".
If they run a data cable alongside a high voltage line, the energy field emitted by the power line will most likely corrupt data traveling down the adjacent data cable.
So a LinuX-Box is a little closer to reality now, but with even with that possibility, I still won't buy an X-Box. Microsoft doesn't deserver an another cent of my money.

- Water running in my metal sink - Hum of refrigerators and other appliances - Chopping up a fresh potato (especially the audio whilst knife is still slicing through potato) - Sound in underground tunnels under busy city streets - The sound in my front bathroom at work (great creepy ambient stuff there) - The sound of the air flow in the attic of a building near here - Socked feet walking on carpet - Sound inside a Pepsi can while blasting "Master of Puppets". (Resulting recordings don't sound even a hint like Metallica. Serious resonating going on here, the whole album is great for resonating soda cans, and other pieces of thin metal.)
Another Interesting source of sound is when you tape a small condenser mic to the guy wire of a power pole, then strike (the cable) with a pipe.
I need to correct you on that, Marsupials are mammals. Our lovely Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger/Wolf) is a marsupial and therefore, a mammal.

I regret going to the site to read the article and giving the National Post another web hit (on second thought, lets get all the Slashdot users to hit the National Post all at once and crash their servers due to the Slashdot Effect), becasue I hate them.
I kind of figured that they would sensationalize the whole situation, and place this immature little skript kiddie into the category of hackers. I hate it when anytime there's a computer attack reported the media likes to jump on the "they're all evil hackers!!" bandwagon, which gives people like me a bad name and reputation.
The only things I do are testing the security of my networks and firewalls to make sure they are secure, and that no unwanted people can gain access to my systems.
Something I would like to say to all the stupid kids out there who think they're 31337 h4><0r5 because they got their hands on dumb-ass script, but first I'll have to translate it to a language they can understand:
All I use are ergonomic keyboards, I'm perfectly comfortable using the type of keyboards that are split down the middle. If I happen to use a generic stock keyboard (eg: someone else's computer or college stations), I can feel my hands, wrists, etc. cramp up from the strain. To me, using a stock keyboard feels like I'm typing on a 2x10 that has been cut to 1 1/2 feet wide.
Personally I think its great that the RIAA is taking a stance against this. Lets see, first the RIAA pisses of geeks, then consumers, now they piss off the radio stations, if we get lucky they'll shoot themselves in the foot and piss off the artists and labels too.
It'll be great if the RIAA pisses off the artists enough that they no-longer want anything to do with them, the only problem is that the artists are bound by a quite restrictive contract which probably forbids them from ever leaving that label. So unfortunately the artists are stuck in the middle, they are being shit upon by the RIAA/labels, and there's nothing the artists can do about it.
As for labels breaking away from the RIAA, impossible, the labels are the RIAA, they're the ones orchestrating this whole mess, so they're too busy rolling in the cash like the pigs they are to care about what ANYBODY thinks.
The articles says that all they allow you to do is merely hide the Micrsoft Middleware, So you still can't actually remove anything. So in other words, it is still no different from Windows 98, except that you don't have to activate W98, also W98 doesn't take up a full gigabyte of disk space.
In my Windows 98 partition, I was able to hide the icons to IE, Outlook, MSN, etc., but I know that the programs are still there.
