There are tons of good builds out there for almost every platform. http://www.xda-developers.com/ is a prime spot to start looking. Heck, my phone started as a Windows Mobile 6.5 and I'm running Android on it. http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ runs on a large number of platforms also. Who cares if the vendor continues to support it, most people wipe the stock image as soon as they get it home and put a better build on it. Nothing better than free support.
This came from a consultant that was hired to process us out when I was laid off from Texas Instruments. She said "There is no such thing as Company Loyalty. A company has no loyalty to you, so why should you have loyalty to your company?"
Look out for #1, take the higher paying job which is closer and enjoy your newly found money and time. Wish your friends the best, tell them you will help them out as needed on a contract basis (nights and weekends), and see if they make a counter offer to the new job.
Sort of. AT&T was the old parent company before the breakup in the 80's. Several of the Baby Bells bought each other, with Southwestern Bell ending up buying AT&T (the long distance company) and changing their name to AT&T. Southwestern Bell owned Cingular and essentially has re-formed about 40% of the old AT&T plus this #2 wireless company into a new mega corp, $123b/year in revenues.
I believe there was a $3 billion fee AT&T would pay if it fell through, plus another approximately $3 billion in spectrum and such. T-Mobile will make out well if it does indeed fail, but it will be years till we know.
Wasn't Predator vs Alien enough to satisfy the Alien vs Alien wish? If an enemy of your enemy is your friend then if two enemies are fighting doesn't that make it a win/win situation?
TI totally blew the consumer market. Back in the 80’s it was the gawd awful TI-99/4A computer, horrible hardware and software but totally neutered by TI’s patent protected methods of locking down the software so that it had to be bought through them, so no outside markets developed. Apple is playing the same game today with the IPad and IPhone.
Interesting to see that TI, after all these years, still hasn’t gotten the message that when someone buys a computer they want the ability to run programs on it, ANY program they want, not just the ones that the company ‘authorizes’.
The very best software has ALWAYS come from hobbyists, doing it in their spare time. Linux came that way, even Apple 1’s were hobbyist hardware and software, directly out of the computer club scene.
Nobody ever seems to realize the long term costs of cutting corners and quality. This is what ruined the US Auto industry, when the Japanese were learning Quality from Joesph Juran after WWII and improving their cars, we were trying to cheapen ours to make the stockholders more money. China is making this same long term mistake.
The appearances to me are that this is a Tying agreement:

Certain tying arrangements are illegal in the United States under both the Sherman Antitrust Act,[1], and Section 3 of the Clayton Act.[2] A tying arrangement is defined as "an agreement by a party to sell one product but only on the condition that the buyer also purchases a different (or tied) product, or at least agrees he will not purchase the product from any other supplier.
I use a Toshiba E805 PocketPC with 640x480 and eReader.com's reader. Been using it for over a decade (ereader, I had a Casio before this one) and it works just dandy, and I take it everywhere. I couldn't deal with a reader that I had to carry, I just slip mine in a pocket and am off. Also, being able to hold it with one hand is great as well.
I love Top Gear too, and agree for the most part with what you are saying about diesel, but (1) it is dirty without extreme measures by the manufacturers, (2) noisy, (3) low on HP without a turbo, which is expensive, (4) heavy (iron block) and US prices are still much higher than petrol.
Top Gear US recently did a diesel conversion Rabbit that they were aiming for 70 mpg, and 7 sec 0-60. Not sure of the results but it was an interesting project. I agree with the OP most definately about why is it that hobbyists can do this stuff with good results and the big 3 auto makers cannot.
Everyone knows "Robot Wars" with the excellent Barbara Crampton already predicted this. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107979/
It will be buried once the Chinese take over and only brought out to defeat our overlords!
I had one of the Sony Glasstron headsets. I had the lower resolution one, but it was still expensive. The high resolution one was very expensive, thousands if I remember. Anyway, wanted it so I could watch movies without bothering the wife but the long cords, headaches, poor resolution, and awkwardness of them kept me from liking them. I sold it eventually.
OLED sounds like an interesting idea, it would keep the power requirements down.
I'll buy the extended edit DVD that's coming out this summer. I wasn't crazy about the "book" but liked the movie. I was disappointed that they chose to change the ending, but thought they did a fine job of it.
What do you think of the efforts at http://www.emc2fusion.org/ and http://www.talk-polywell.org/bb/index.php ? They seem to be making real, measurable and open results but the mainstream physics community seems to ignore this progress.
That they are Finnished?

Guess you watched Adam's Curiosity special on Discovery last night. I enjoyed it as well.

Gene and Neil want to go on the shuttle, right?

Hold on to that puppy! In about 50 years it'll be worth -nothing-.
Zork, or one of the original Infocom games, running on my smartphone.

Mythbusters Adam and Jamie, Dean Kamin, and even Mike Rowe come to mind.
Ha, I still have Minix 1.0 in a boxed set! MSDOS 1.0 and Turbo Pascal 1.0 as well (CPM).
Why wait? I'll sell you several boxes full of SCO licenses, manuals and disks! ODT 3.0 on! Great for your Labor Day bonfire!

Looks like another possible comet hit to me. Introduce new volatles into the atmosphere and you'll get something similar.
Actually there are 2 more, sort of. There are 2 private space stations built by Bigelow, that have not ever been occupied (they were test vehicles). There are plans for a much larger 3 module permanent station. http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/080509-bigelow-genesis1-milestone.html

Guess /. is getting desperate for 4/1 stories.
