Both creationism and evolution are conjecture whose proponents cite various facts, observations, and probablilities to promote the supposed legitimacy of their claims.
Excuse me, but what facts do creationists call upon to promote their claims? Evolutionists have scientifically proven data whereby they can show that evolution is a sound explanation for the natural world. Creationists cannot.
Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but people working two jobs and being poor don't usually have computers, or the time to set up their own websites and respond to that many e-mails.
How many generations has the XBOX gone through since the PS2 came out? It's been at least 2. If Microsoft hasn't been able to catch up in that time, then I don't see why "the next generation" would be any different. Go into any game store... it's obvious by distribution of amounts of games and the platforms they are for which systems are the most popular, and I don't see this changing unless the system is fantastic.
True, but it must be remembered that what most of us see as an abuse of freedom is not a reason against the existence of freedom. Just because there are disgusting porn movies in Germany doesn't mean that such a level of freedom is bad. Furthermore, I'm sure you'd find there are some pretty disgusting movies made in the US as well.
I don't think this will happen, mainly because america is much more up-tight about religious or racy things (eg. Political Correctness) than the rest of the world. For example, in Germany you'll see advertisements touting topless women, which is something I guarantee you won't see in the US. Furthermore, I don't think a company would make an ad that would at all be seen as religiously or racially offensive, because they would think that that might interfere in their profits. Think about ads you see in magazines. There's usually a 50% female 50% male ratio, with as many different ethnicities and colors represented as possible.
However, I do agree with you that the best advertisement is a non-existent one, but I doubt that will ever come to pass.
The standard FBI procedure? Do you realize how many people would riot if their phones were turned off for 24 hours? There'd probably be people rioting before 6 hours were over. In this high-tech world, were everyone is connected, not being connected, for even so little a time as 24 hours really is, is seen as a disaster. I don't think the FBI would even try
Yes of course, but the point is, we're supposed to look the like the victims of those cruel evil terrorists. Therefore, we need to make it sound like everything they do is "a terrorist attack", since everyone agrees that terrorism is bad (well, almost everyone). We sound like the innocent victims, and our people are much more likely to support us if we are fighting against terrorism, or at least, if we say we are, then if we say we are at war. Why do you think Bush keeps saying that Saddam Hussein is in league with Bin Ladin? Otherwise, people might notice that we are going in there without any justification, and massacring Iraqis. Notice how attacks on our "liberation" forces in Iraq are always labelled as terrorist attacks? Perish the thought of a people wanting to fight to get their country back from those people who just invaded them without reason!
I notice this article avoids saying whether the kids actually played Warriors of Freedom. The article only states that it is an online video game.
Besides this, I also have to comment on the absolute idiocy of the person making this connection. About the comment that the kid was never away from his computer... that could be due to a number of reasons. He could be a social reject, as I was. I don't go out, mainly because I don't have a girlfriend, and there's really no place I'd like to go, except the movies, to which I do occasionally go. Instead of rushing to blame video games, you could just as easily accuse Television. How many violent shows are there on Television where the hero is a guy running around blowing all the bad guys to kingdom come? But People don't want to hear about TV being a bad influence, because they all watch it. They would much rather accuse video games of wrongdoing. I think it's most likely that these kids were alone alot because of their possible rejection from social life. The video game playing most likely came as a result of this. If I had had a girlfriend and lots of friends, do you think I would have spent evenings playing Descent 3 or some such game when I could have been out with my friends? Hell no, and I doubt these kids would have.
To put it quite simply. This is just some idiot drawing conclusions that achieve his own ends, and get him on the news. No big deal. I don't think GTA Vice City sales will go down over this.

Why? Should space be kept only for those of us who are physically perfect, have trained for years and years as pilots, and now as astronauts? Why shouldn't other people be allowed into space? Also, I'm sure Russia could use the money, and it's not exactly hurting anyone, is it? Space belongs to us all. It is for everyone to conquer, not just astronauts and experts. If rich people can go into space, soon the prices will go down, until more and more people can go into space. I think that is worth it.
You'd think an organization that produces something that might be made illegal soon would bother to spell properly. "Today is a very said day for Microsoft"? Wow. Get your kicks while they last.
This becomes all the more relevant, when you read "Cybernetic Samurai", in which the Artificial Sentience (Note: Not AI) pulls somewhat of a nasty prank on someone by videotaping a "lovemaking" session between a Company president and a call-girl, and then routed the image into a television screen in an airport in Tokyo. This is only a mild example of something that could actually happen.
In case you all are wondering what kind of crap it is I read, I thought it prudent to add that the AS did promise not to ever do something like that again.;-).
I can't agree more. 99% of the people I talk to on chat don't even know how to change their passwords. In numerous cases I've had to explain to them how. Simplicity is definitely valued more by the normal layperson than are features. I have seen people turn down Trillian because "it is too complicated". I think most people would love to have such a simple chat client.
Now, if we could only tell all those people that Apple exists.
Of course it will, in the short term. However, such a cool chat program will merely be an added perk for those people looking to buy an Apple for the first time. The problem is, as you say, that Apple has only ~10% market share. I.e. most people own PC's. While iChat is cool, it's not really worth spending the money to buy a Mac. However, if people are thinking about buying a Mac, would this not sway them towards getting one?
Is there even any competition? Does M$N even have video conferencing? Indeed, I doubt that the camera quality is even remotely comparable. Those of us who say the SteveNote saw how awesome the iSight camera was. Is MSN Messenger even going to be remotely comparable?
You're thinking of people who know a left speaker from a right speaker on their computer. Do you honestly think the majority of computer users would shirk at opening an attachment, even if they don't know who it is from? I'm not talking about you and me, people who of course know not to open such attachments, but rather those people who keep sending me chain IM's telling me that if I don't send this message to 15 people in the next 5 minutes, then I will die a most horrible death at the hands of a dead 6 year old girl who has no hands, mouth or ears. You are talking of the same people that, if you ask them what operating system they are using, they will either say "huh?" or "Internet Explorer"? You, sir, are hopelessly naive if you think that there is any shortage of such people.
The idea that there might not be any other life out there isn't sticking your head in the sand, it's a valid theory, just working from a different philosophy. Since there's no evidence that life has formed from scratch more than once, it's not impossible that it was a incredible, once-in-a-thousand-universe chance.
There is a general flaw in your argument, in that we have only had any kind of technology on two objects in space: Our Moon and Mars. Granted, we have had probes pass by other planets, but still, they are still within our solar system, which only constitutes a microscopic fraction of the size of the universe. Now, I would say it is a very selfish argument to say that we have not, on the two extra-terrestrial objects we have been on, found life, that it does not exist anywhere in the Universe. The Universe is vast, spanning billions of lightyears. Can you truly say that The Moon and Mars are an accurate cross-section of the universe, and that if life doesn't exist there, it doesn't exist anywhere? Also, there's no proof that all life evolves as ours has. Though it may sound rather "Star Trekky" of me, I cannot imagine that all life in the Universe is biological in nature. Finally, if I may quote Calvin and Hobbes: "The surest sign that there is other life in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us." -Calvin and Hobbes.
And why would someone not want to extend their copyright? Companies would want to extend their copyrights as long as possible. Why, then, would they shirk at paying $1 just to extend their patent? This is a pittance to any company. I don't see what effect this article would have. Also, it gives them three chances, through three years.
