This is so true. They asked if I wanted one when I opened an account for my 2 month old son. I had a job and a debit card at 15. (actually an ATM card then, but the same thing now) If all they need is the number w/ no charges, no parent would even know even if they looked at the statement.
Actually in a profit sense, if a gift card costs, say, 10 cents to make, an unclaimed $10 gift card is like a 10000% profit. My maths a bit shakey but i think thats right. (or is it 100000%?)

Not my evidence. But damning evidence. This was put forth as a short retraction on the news somewhere, and suprisingly wasnt very picked up
So I take it youd also support the Government banning Guns? I dont know about you, but I'm more afraid of getting a bullet in my head then someone releasing some bizarre toxin that some dude at MIT just discovered. It seems to me, that there is already more then enough weapons and info. on Improvised weaponry that terrorists arent going to build a 5million+ facility to try and build a weapon that may be possible to produce. Why bother?
Just a random thought...
or how about some geek with a band puts a tag for his song on the latest copy of Britney Spears new album at Best Buy. "look ma I'm a Millionaire, Whattayamean the FBI's at the door?"
I've been suggested lots of crap w/ this, so heres what I've been doing:
Looking up all the obscure bands I like and rating their albums and whenever I hear a new album I like I go and rate their album.
I think this is the only way to improve their crappy system
I also kind of find it fun to go through and rate their suggestions every once and awhile and zone out for a couple hours. Maybe you shouldnt be taking advice from someone who finds this fun.

Actually they tax half after the first million. They want to change it to the tune of 50% after the first 3.5 million. see:
http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/formspubs/page/0,,id%3D 12907,00.html
So if this business is worth 1,100,000 then the tax would be 50 grand (minus funeral costs and a few other things) which the IRS would be willing to put into payment plans while this theoritacal peron assumes control of the business. You are right, the IRS has no desire to run a business. The kind of stuff youre talking about only happens when someone thinks its unfair that they owe 50 grand for inheriting a business worth 1 million and DOESNT pay. Look at IRS.GOV and think about it. This isnt about the little guy. This is about the people who inherit several million in cash.
you said:
ineffecuality of government programs, but after looking at your website I'm not going to bother, you're obviously a complete whacko.
which do you think hurts the poor more, repealing the estate tax or the current social security program?
I say:
I was gonna Ignore this OT thread but i cant. Your right. It is fair to have a very small percentage of the wealth forever. You work for your money so your great geat grandchildren should never know work. I'm sorry but inheritors dont work for anything. If they only get 50 million instead of 100 million, they should smile, and say thank you for all the nice roads, schools, airports, and corporate welfare that pays for.

Check out "Six Degrees Of Seperation" (or is it seven?) Re: Will Smith serious acting. He did an excellent job. Unfortanately, movies like that dont make you 20 Million.
Before we get more Off Topic, I just want to reassert, Blanket criticisms come from the people who make movies all the time. I think the reason we dont hear more is the fear of reprisals. You hurt your chance of making another movie if you start shouting about how your movie didnt do well because some producer who went to business, not film, school, decided to fuck with your movie.
And thats probably good common sense. Its like artistic whistle blowing. Because i also cook, I'll give you an analogy. You come up with a menu Item and of course the Chef tries it and gives you feedback, you change it, Chef says okay, it goes on the menu. Now lets imagine that you make a dish, And the FOH manager, Wait-Staff manager Accountant, day manager, and marketing director gave you input. And you had to incorparate all of it or it didnt go on the menu. This is what typically happens in hollywood and shouldnt. To give a blanket criticism of hollywood from a non-industry type is not only valid but rooted in truth. Look at all the cookie cutter movies getting made that dissapear in a week. This is where hollywood is blowing all their money. Think about it.
Well I don't really know about Schindlers, But a Blanket criticism of Hollywood is quite accurate.
I have heard many Directors, Actors, Writers say that once you get your money to make your masterpiece that you have to deal with some coked up dude with a gold chain who, once you get into production, is telling you they have good numbers that tell them you should put a "Robo_space_Dog" in your hard Scifi picture. Or it needs some "eye-candy" so you have to hire a talentless actor because he looks good. Etc.
you have to keep in mind who the viewers are (although they may be the same) i.e. the 18-25 group is worth twice as much as the 26-35 age group and the 60+ market is worth nothing....
I dont know where you live, but I find this to be the exact opposite. I may just live in a great Area (Western Mass, Bostons on the other side of the state there) But we have an incredibly diverse, original, and Talented group of bands here.
I'd put the Ratio around 70/30 in favor of the good stuff. (I have seen some bad shows) I that some areas just cant get it going on or the musicians tend to congregate.
There are lots of other places like: Seattle, Boston, NYC, Richmond, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Austin, Burlington, That I've been to or heard they had similar scenes. It may just be my area thou.
Thoughts anyone?
I had some of the same feelings you did. I hate the commercial diamond business myself, So I originally went out and got an antique Opal ring. This was met with only Mild satisfaction so I regrouped. I didnt want to buy new, supporting brutal foreign regimes so I hit Ebay. I found another antique ring With a small Diamond and 4 large emeralds around it, my wife being Irish, this was great. She is the envy of her friends with big vacant looking rocks, this had a past, was totally different from anything being made today and I got it for dirt cheap!!!!
And its all real too. (best part, I breathed a BIG sigh of relief there at the jewelers.)
AFAIK this is a fairly new practice in the non-financial workplace, and I'm sure even the information to provide a cost benefit analysis is far off.

I thought voters were high enough...
