the AMD 760MP with two AthlonMP 1.2GHz was the hottest system I ever used. One day one of the cores melt down due to a failure of the ventilation fan, it was like a volcano, spurting hot liquid metal until a short circuit took the system down with a big explosion.
Most companies would not upgrade to Vista Desktop/Server_whatever_it_will_be_named within the first few years after its release, unless MS threatens them by cutting Windows XP/2003 support sooner than expected.
Compiz has a lot of plugins providing fancy effects but I find most of them disturbing and for some reason I think I am not the only one complaining about them. In contrast, last time I checked it was lacking even the most basic options provided by kwin like remembering window size and position, edge attraction, etc. I tried a little Xgl + KDE + compiz on a friend's computer and found it rather messy.
Why not run two copies of the X server on different monitors (:0 and:1) using either the same or different graphics cards and two sets of input devices?
whenever I get tired of using the right hand (er, no, I'm not making allusion to that activity thought to be common between./'ers, you sick bastard!) I can switch to a left-handed mouse immediately.
I personally just encourage people to switch to KDE.
This "users are idiots, and are confused by functionality" mentality of Gnome is a disease. If you think your users are idiots, only idiots will use it. I don't use Gnome, because in striving to be simple, it has long since reached the point where it simply doesn't do what I need it to do.
I think having an e-mail client integrated into the browser is a good idea. Despite Opera's e-mail interface and usability is not (yet) as intuitive and powerful as, say, thunderbird, it seems promising. Besides, how would you instruct other applications to use it as the default e-mail application?
yeah, under capitalistic rules, you don't count, you're nothing, no matter your sense of justice, the validity of your arguments and the emotion accompanying them. You and me, we don't have enough power for them to consider our opinion. MS has defied the highest justice organisms in most countries including the US and the EU. Millions of people consider B. G. a marketing genius, most of them envy his skills and admire him as philanthropist. Heck, even Warren Buffett has surrendered most of his wealth to the Gates Foundation. Now, if B. G. and MS do the same the slapping could wait.
If all the money men have spent on miracle p3n1s enlargement devices/treatements was used to make serious research on the subject, by now we would have already seen real possibilities. By the way, do you know that the bigger you p3n1s gets the more blood you need to fill it and the less blood is left for the brain to function properly? Most women would not like to sleep with mentally retarded ba5tards. Just joking, of course.
I like Emacs a lot and use it each time I have to code but for most activities like modifying a file or to writing scripts I prefer gvim. Emacs takes ages to start and its UI is not consistent with most desktop environments. Unfortunately, the port to modern widget toolkits like GTK never worked nicely. In marked contrast, the Windows version is really nice but I hardly remember the last time I booted on Windows.
You fail to realize that the government was having a hard time trying to justify the need to maintain the troops in Irak, even their die-hard supporters were turning against it, so they've come with the wonderful idea of dividing people's opinion using such a delicate subject as illegal immigration. It's a nice trick and the supporters are back on their side.
Small, fast, and free.

For those having a NVIDIA card, the NVIDIA Control Panel (nView) provides one of the best virtual desktop managers around.
Inciting others to subversion under an Anonymous Coward mask, eh? You are already being tracked... be prepared for Guantanamo!
I for a second misread the title as "Open-Source Prostitutes".
I'm a firm believer that most people act in the best intrests of others
Me thinks - you misspelled "themselves".

Does it qualify as alpha or pre-alpha release?
If there is one thing preventing me from installing Xgl is the horrible experience I witnessed using KDE with compiz.
Imagine a beowulf cluster of these... Seriously, what is the estimated price/performance ratio of a GPU compared to that of a CPU?

There you have me.

there are more than enough grammar nazis here on slashdot willing to do the best they can to help you.
Sorry, you're wrong:

what part of better interoperability with third-party applications you don't understand?

Easy, the money will help to encourage european companies to painlessly switch from MS software to OSS.

Reading Slashdot news has become a pain in the *ss after somebody decided to use the ugliest and smallest fonts available.
