Well, we Americans are (a little) ego-centic (and generally ignorant of any non-US world history). You need to forgive us if we think we invented slavery also.
I wonder if anyone has patented "the use of human capitol against their will for the personal pursuit of riches" yet. If not, I predict there will be a patent filing for this in the very near future. But perhaps SCO has some prior art (mentioning SCO usually helps me get modded up - bring it on).
We don't know because the President's party isn't making it clear. What is clear however is that they seem to be bringing us a sort of fusion McCarthyism, part Lenin (originator of the line 'whoever is not for us is against us'), part political correctness, part opportunism, part desperation.
Call it anything you want, but politically, it's called "sheer genius". It's like the abortion rights movement calling themselves "pro choice" instead of "pro abortion" or "anti-life", and the "pro live" faction being constantly referred to as "anti abortion" or "anti choice". Who, politically, would want to be called "anti military" or "pro terrorist" right now (well Dennis K, but he's a certifiable nutjob anyhow), so the Republican strategists have devised a way to keep all the democrats hovering above the fence on this. Hovering like this is a huge waste of fuel (money and media attention, in this case). The Democratic strategists want desperately to make the next election about the economy (specifically job loss) and get attention off the "War on terror" in the hopes of re-enacting the Clinton victory, but the Republicans are (not surprisingly) trying to stop them.
You may not like our President, but you have to admire his party strategists at least a little. So far, they have kept the Democratic candidates running around bludgening each other with their verbal attacks. Using up all their money and political good will, while the President sits back and "looks Presidential".
That's it, my child is going to he homeschooled. I figure the money I save on bulletproof vests and lunch money, I can put towards social interaction classes;-)
You got that right. I was so disturbed by the way other kids treated me (and other kids, whenever they weren't harrassing me) that as a teenager I vowed I'd never have kids at all, because I didn't want them to go through what happened to me (or worse, become one of the bullies).
Then, in college, I was introduced to some families that homeschooled and their kids sure were different than my school peers were. Now I have 3 kids (11 to 16) and they are/were homeschooled until they decided to on their own to change (younger 2 are still being homeschooled). It's a really great option and the people who complain they aren't being "properly socialized" must be the parent of bullies who want more victims for their kids.
My daughter was 15 when she had her first ride on a public school bus. She was a little disturbed by the misbehavior of some of the other students, but she understood that their parents (and teachers) set different standards for them. She has adjusted much better than I ever did (I was in public school from kindergarten on) and is a model student in both grades and extra curricular activities.
There is no question that home schooled kids are "sheltered" from the real world. But I think that's a positive. My kids never learned how to cut down their peers with viscious words or physical violence. They assume that being friendly with people will be to their advantage and they act much more grown up than many adults I work with.
You can write this off as being a "proud father", but I'm very happy my kids were home schooled during the years when it matters most. We geeks understand the pain that can result from "proper socialization" better than most people, and the idea of home schooling is really very logical for us.
When they asked me why I use OSS, I told them it was because it was better, but they just held their hands over their ears the whole time and started yelling "la-la-la-la-la-la-la".
Perhaps I don't count because I'm married, not "single"
It will combine all this in a single server: - the speed of an emulated 386 - the uptime and reliability of the Windows host OS - the security model common to all Microsoft products
By the way, this procedure might have to be done if your router is behind a firewall. Reason: filter.belkin.com sends a response to the Router to set the flag. Firewalls will block the response.
What is someone figured out what response was being sent back to turn this off, then just sent that set of packets to every IP address on the net. Wouldn't it completely shutdown Belkin's plans for this? Of course, that might be a DOS attack in itself, depending on how large the response is.
My first thought was that whis was going to be ignored by the PWAA (people with an agenda), but after reading the paper, I realized that they must attack this fast and hard, or they will never gain back the ground they've been losing.
The real issue here is about power. Both sides want the political power to control environmental policy decisions and will do whatever it takes to grab and keep that power. There's no moral high ground here, and anyone who claims their position is absolutely right and that's not negotiable, is clearly viewing this as a religious war.
It's interesting to me that all the terrorists (radical Islam, Green Peace, neo-Nazi's, Stalin-brand communists, and even the medievel "crusaders", to name a few) are in it for religious reasons. And to the man (or woman), they are convinced that they are acting in their victims best interest.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences.
Sounds like you're married to this lady (or is she your mom?).
Just eat the popcorn when she's not around. You body needs carbs anyway, and this way it's caffeine-free (unlike most interesting soda) and alcohol-free. If you need any more help rationalizing bad behavior, let me know:)
Ask her this: If you take the corn, leave it on the cob for a few more weeks, then grind it up and make a tortilla or corn chips, does it still count as a vegetable ?
From a dietician's perspective, she's guiding you into general nutrition groups and helping you balance your intake of carbs, fats, proteins, etc. so in reality it's ok to count it as a vegetable.
Corn is a grass, so is sugarcane and bamboo shoots. Corn chips (fried in vegetable oil, of course) and corn syrup (Karo syrup brand around here) are certainly yummy ways to get your vegetables!
Tomato fruits are actually berries. Ironically, raspberries are not really berries, but are "aggregates of drupelets" (a good example of a drupe is a plum, a single seed surrounded by fleshy material). Strawberries aren't true berries either, because their seeds are on the outside of the fruit.
In general, if what you eat has seeds (or is supposed to have seeds, like bananas and certain grapes), they you are eating fruit. We eat corn and bean fruit by strict botanical definitions. "True" vegetables are when we eat the leaves, roots, stems, or flowers.
We (mankind) have done so much genetic manipulation with our crops (for milleniums, not just from Monsanto) that most would never be able to survive without our continued cultivation.
Whether we domsticated them, or they domesticated us, is debatable. From their perspective, it looks like they have enslaved the human race to do their bidding (spread their genes around the would and into the future).
Therefore, we should publicize the details of our legal and political systems, that would surely bring them in. Then, once they are here, we can keep endlessly amused with our "manager-cams", that follow corporate managers around all day and show them making decisions. Sort of a real-time, cosmicly-friendly Dilbert channel.
Hmmm, and the 10 years of sanction were for what?
I suppose you also think MS behaves like a monopoly because the Justice Department persecuted them so much, they just had to act that way.
if your in North Dakota and hear hoofbeats, don't shout "Zebra"
Don't overlook the obvious, Sadaam obviously had WMD's. Thanks to France/Germany/Russia, he had plenty of time to export them to Syria and who knows where else.
Umm, they just diappeared? You do agree that there were WMD at one time, right?
Sure, back in 1991, before the UN made them disarm.
Then Sadaam sure was stupid. If I took all the effort to disarm according to the UN requirements, I think I'd have the inspectors all over the place to prove it and rub President Bush's nose in it. The only reason I can think of to exclude the inspectors is because they still had WMD, or to "play chicken" with the US.
Fortunately, it seems neither option really worked out for him:)
Every day a note goes arround called 'The Memo' which contains the Republican party messages of the day. If you do not toe the line then you get fired.
Sounds like they have this backwards -- in the "real media", the Memo contains the Democrat party messages of the day. No wonder the "mainstream" liberals (there's an oxymoron to go with the morons) think Fox News is such a threat!
I find the whole thing quite amusing, the libs wringing their hands over Fox news because they've owned the media for so many years, they just can't imagine such a setback. Kind of like a certain political party that keeps losing and then telling itself that the sheep^H^H^H^H^Hvoters of America must be too stupid to understand the issues.
Hey Democrat party leaders - we understand the issues just fine, we (the voters) just disagree with you (which as far as I know is still a right you Democrats haven't managed to take away yet).
Tiki (or here if that gets slashdotted) does this by using the app to creat the docs for the app. It's sort of recursive, but it works. Users can either modify the docs themselves, or add a comment to the page and let someone with more time/expertise update the actual page. The really shy folks can also send a private message to the page creator if they like.

Wally: Stupidity is like nuclear power, it can be used for good or evil. Dilbert: Yeah, and you don't want to get any one you!
Good point, I often wondered what it was that made President Clinton do the stuff he did. But I'm pretty sure Hillary did inhale, otherwise she would have left the idiot.
. . . I haven't had anyone complain about email again.
I was buying it all, until that last line. You should have quite while you were ahead.
Either you're making this all up, or you only sent that message 5 minutes ago and then left the building. Please stop building up false hopes in young, impressionable, email admins, it's just not nice!
It already works this way with some ISP's. Comcast residential IP blocks can't send to AOL or to anyone using certain blacklists. Fortunately, they are very willing to relay anything through Comcast official email servers as long as it originates inside their customer net, and no one seems to block email from the Comcast email servers (apparently no spam comes from them;) ).

That sir, is a piece of imagery I really didn't need.

You obviously know very little about the UNIX security model then.
:)
Anyway, it was supposed to be funny. Sorry you didn't get it. I'll type slower next time
