Well, actually, yes, I have tried. I ran for a state rep position as an independant. Came in 2nd I might add. I was beaten by democrat with $$$$$$$$$$ who had a record of voting for 100% of the tax increases put before him, who voted for every patriot-like act, and who had a published affair with an intern. If I can't beat that without a huge bankroll how I am to move any further forward. Are YOU going to give me donations?
Anyone who has read my posts can quickly guess I am a republican, but this "debate" process really turns my stomach. Practiced questions, scripted answers, attempts at "humor", and no outside candidates is unacceptable. We need these third, 4th, 5th etc party candidates pushing the mainstream runners to answer questions they don't want to answer. On paper Bush and Kerry are both so equally horrible that it is impossible to distinguish between them. Putting a strong third party runner in there with them with unscripted questions is exactly what we need to see what they really are. It amazes me they are both (Bush and Kerry) so fearful of getting a question they aren't ready for or being upstaged by someone actually in touch with true American feelings that they are their debate-fixing group make it impossible to find out anything that resembles the truth.
I've said it many times... we have got to get a strong third party in place and soon to push the political mountain or we are going to watch these two parties merge into one uncontrollable monster.
Come on... geek fantasy... your significant other meets you at the door after a tough day of admining/coding/db'ing wearing NOTHING but one of these... hmmmmmmmmmmmm gotta go call the wife now!
AMEN! I quit waering a watch a few months ago and it has been much less stressful. I am no longer glancing down at it every time someone stops me for a minute to talk. It is not constantly telling me how much time the meeting I am stuck in is wasting, etc. And just like you, when I need to know the time, there is a way to find it.
"Most dogs end up there because they have issues that most normal families can't deal with."
I call bunk. I am heavily involved with rescue groups and all my dogs are rescue dogs. I have found almost 100% of rescue dogs come from people who just don't have a clue. They didn't know how big it would get, how much work it would be, etc.
"I also recommend getting a purebred as you have a much greater chance of knowing how big, and what kind of temperment your dog will end up with and energy level, trainability etc."
And unless you are very heavily involved in the breeder scene and know them very personally, you have a great chance of getting an animal with tons of inbreeding problems. I'm am most certainly not saying that all breeders are bad, but it is extremely difficult for people not in the know to track down truly reputible breeders.
There are just too many dogs already in this world and breeders are not helping the situation. Bringing home an animal that is in dire need of a home results in a truly loyal companion that on average will have no more physical/mental issues than any purebread.
I hoped you would read them and I am sorry you you are so programmed to the leftist way of thinking that putting the articles in front of you with direct support of what I said still makes no difference to you. Well, just sit down, sing folk songs, and pretend that there are no threats, have never been any threats, and never will be any threats, as that is obviously where you are at. Meanwhile, those of us with a clue about how the world really operates will do our best to protect ourselves and our coutnry (including all of you singing folk songs).
Interesting you immediately call me misonformed when I have obviously read and heard BOTH sides of the argument to a very apparent large extent. I read the Liberal rags and I listen to the Conservative radios. I read FoxNews and then listen to the opinions of the very leftist Slashdot crowd. Calling me misinformed only shows a lack of thought on your part. I'll give you some slack, it is Friday and you are probably tired as well.
The fact the these same claims showed up in several locations does not make them bunk, it only helps to solidify them.
As a side, do you really have the gullibility to believe that NO weapons were shipped out to Syria? That's why I posted one specific link to that story. There were caravans of trucks that moved across into Syria leading up to and during the beginning of the attacks. Oh, wait, I'm sure those were food rations and medicine supplies. No way could those have been truckloads of weapons being moved and dispursed to groups.
The simple to see for anyone with cognitive abilites fact is a ruthless, heartless threat to the entire middle east and supporter of violence in America had either the weapons or was actively trying to get weapons, and needed to be stopped. The pacifist people are the first ones bitching that we had no business being there, but when either he, or one of the people he supplied and supported, killed innocent Americans (or innocent people of whatever country you are in), they then become the first people bitching that our bad intelligence let it happen and we should have done more to stop him. Well, this time we did do more, and the entire area is safer for it. But wait, they've gotta bitch about that too right?
Is Bush a good president, no probably not, but was the right thing done here to help make the world a little safer? YES.
Do you even watch the news? Yeah, the mainstream, liberal as hell news? Even they have talked about the 100's of empty shells that had very detectible amounts of checial weapon residue. Amounts that could not be explained away as "before the 1990's Gulf War leftovers". Have you bothered to read about the discovery of parts that several Iraqi scientists said, "You will find parts of a wapeons manufacturing devices here that were dismantled as you began your attack,"? Hear about the 2 dismantled Russian nuclear warheads that were found in a bunker that was covered by 10 meters of concrete? I think that only got a 1/2 point font mention in the Kerry loving newspapers. You certainly won't find links to that last one in the USA Today and NYT rags, but it was reported hard and heavy on almost every major radio outlet.
I'm sorry to be offtopic, but I am sick and tired of this "pull the wool over our eyes and say there were no WMD's" bullshit.
That said, I am 100% in agreement that we are still there keeping oil prices up and Mr. W isn't doing a damned thing to help us because his buddies are making money and hey, he doesn't have to foot the gas bill for Air Force One. And don't even get me started on his amnesty for illegal immigrants crap.
OK Mr. 566160, Mr. 558914 surely has not been around as long as your regal self. Why should I risk my widdle itty bitty self here in this vast wasteland? Perhaps it is because I STILL HAVE A GRIP ON REALITY. If your life here is so incredibly awful then wy continue? Put us all out of your misery.
I have been working at a university for the last year and a half and am now getting out to get back IN the corporate world. Here's my take on things. Bare in mind, I have been at a religious-based university.
1. The polotics are HORRIBLE. Every single things has to go through 10 committees and finance groups and can still be killed on the whims of the CFO. You have to be 100% politically correct all the time or you are frowned upon. My experiences with corporate politics have been MUCH easier to deal with.
2. Hours suck. You basically can not take a system down anytime there MIGHT be a class or students in the labs. For us that means that during the week reboots/service packs/anything minor has to been done remotely at 3:00AM. That's the only time we have gotten approved to boot everyone off the systems. Scheduling major upgrades always turns into a Saturday/Sunday/come in at 10:00PM ordeal.
3. Pay is below the industry average in the area. Whatever this position is making in the corporate arena in your area, subtract 20% to get what the university will pay.
4. Benefits - most universities have great benefits. Mine is an EXTREME exception. Most have good health, vision, dental, and education reibursement. A lot of schools let your children go there for free after you have worked there X number of years.
5. Autonomy - most schools let you do your work at your own pace. Unless your boss is a militant ex-marine who's boss is a militant ex-army officer. Not that I'm bitter about that or anything.
Those are just a few of my major findings. It has not been an enjoyable experience for me and I am looking forward to getting back to the corporate world. Oh, and to the guy that mentioned no dress code... count yourself lucky... I work in the basement of a 100 year old building and I have to come in dressed in shirt and tie. (For 1 1/2 more weeks anyway)
AMEN. I reported a couple of companies to the BBB, got nothing for my troubles and... wait for it...
If you go to the BBB site and look up the companies to see if they have any complaints against them, THEY DO NOT SHOW UP WITH ANY COMPLAINTS! Glad to know my voice and effort was wasted.
I have to disagree a little bit on this. We have someone that works with us that is an absolute wizzard with the Pakateer packet shaper and needless to say even our VERY tech savy students are b!tch!ing and complaining about not being able to get around the restrictions we've put into place. It can be done, it just requires some good back end research and someone who knows his stuff:-)
I found out completely by accident. I hadn't touched my online stuff in over a year, then went in one day and updated everything (9-10 job boards). I got 4 or 5 calls in an hour. I didn't touch anything (thinking, damn, my increased skills are in higher demand) for a couple of days and got nothing. On a hunch I went in and made very small changes and again, within hours got a couple more calls. Lather, rinse, repeat until a REAL job offer comes your way. Took me about 2 months.
Mod this guy up! That has absolutely been the key for me (I am looking again after getting being forced into a, um, tolerable position). I took the time each day, first thing in the morning to update each online resume, even if it was only moving a space here or there. I consistently got calls. Mind you, many were recruiters that barely spoke english trying to get me to take incredibly short contract work, but it did end up with me getting a couple of solid offers (from HR people cruising the sites) that I am now negotiating between:-)
He and his followers killed, raped, and otherwise tortured 10's of thousands of Iraq's own people. He also refused to allow the people food or medical aid (instead pocketing all money himself).
Clinton sent troops to Bosnia over a very similiar event, only on a smaller scale. But then again, that was Clinton so it was OK, right?
"Hopefully you'll be smart enough to vote out dubya this year and the new president will have the brains to save the country."
And whom do you suggest? Dean? Sharpton? Oh, I know Kerry.... no wait, they are all left wing nuts that have promised more of this same type of action AND will raise our taxes. The ONLY person running against Bush that has even the slightest clue about what's going on in the world and how to work with it is Lieberman and he has neither the financial or party support to make it.
The truth sucks... out of all the realistic candidates, Bush is the least of the evils.... sad huh?
Hmmm, my first thought was of course I don't, but then I started looking around. Turns out Angelfire still has a webpage that some coworkers of mine and I put up when we worked for our college's helpdesk.
Funny stuff.

I JUST had this happen to me a week ago. I had vacation on the board for months to go on a trip with my wife. Boss comes in a couple of days before and says, "You have to cancel your vacation, I have to be out those days." You are probably saying, "Well, I'd just quit." That is all fine and good until you have a mortgage (on a small reasonable house), child support, utility bills, silly eat-or-die food requirements, and a HIDEOUS job market in your area.
Yeah, I wanted to take my time back, but at this point it wasn't an option. I'm sure I am not the only person facing this scenario either.
No doubt. I was watching some really bad B horror movie last night. Nothing like seeing a mans head cut off with spewing blood in one scene and then seeing what *MIGHT* have been a nipple blurred out of a later "love" scene.
"So, who's going to actually do it? You?"
