Now that BitTorrent owns uTorrent, doens't it make sense for them to now restrict uTorrent from downloading copyrighted material? How long before Warner Bros, etc demand that Bit Torrent put the reins on uTorrent?
Looks like it's time to develop another Bit Torrent client.
uTorrent rocks and this may make downloading movies tougher since BitTorrent agreed to not allow downloading of copyrighted material. Looks like it goes downhill from here.
Also stop saying "tinfoil hat". For a bunch of geeks who pride themselves on being "accurate", aluminum foil and tin foil are distinctly different things.
I don't mean this as flamebait but isn't RMS irrelevant already? Back when it needed a knowledgable geek champion who understood the situation at the time, RMS was great.
Since that time it appears that the real world operates on a different set of rules than RMS's "Free no matter what" and reality be damned.
Forgive me for not being so knowledgable but it does seem like RMS's ego is now driving the train.
None of this diminishes RMS' contribution but some may think his time as a cult of personality is over.
I thought that leaving America might be for me too until I DID leave it. Fact is, you can't throw away everything that the United States has done all because of this current asshole administration.
It is still the greatest country on the planet....period......
I have been to 41 countries in my travels as a travel writer and if you live here and don't wake up every day happy you are here then you are seriously fucked up.
And Europe? . PLEASE......
The majority of conflicts that we've been involved in as a country in the last 100 years have been due to either...
A. Europe not getting along
B. Failed European colonial policy
Yeah yeah, Europe likes to talk like they're some kinda of different animal but they're not. Compare the EU in population and economic output to the US and they are pretty much the United States of Europe. They have envy issues because they used to be the center of power and the U.S. took it. (Much like the U.S. is going to feel when we have to welcome our new Chinese overlords)
I absolutely cannot stand this administration but the beauty of American is that the government DOES bend to the will of the people ultimately.
And Iraq? I would suggest Europe take a look at it's own colonial past before throwing stones. France and it's occupation of Algeria in particular.
If you don't like America bitches, then reclaim it.

Every time there is an earth shattering technology whether it's been the Internet or the introduction of the auto (or whatever) it's the same: Tons of money get poured into the market, valuations become absurd, implosion, new golden age begins.
We're more in the golden age at this point. The internet is not new or novel technology anymore. Your 800 pound gorillas who are going to be around are established i.e. Yahoo!, Amazon, Google, etc. There might be the occasional bright idea but probably no hysteria like we saw in the late 90s.
Speaking of "lost money" on the dot com boom, if you go to Vegas with 200.00, turn that 200.00 into 20,000 and then lose it all, you still only lost 200.00
It's never been lost, but it has been redistributed from the hands of the many to the hands of the compartively few (hedge funds mainly).
Interesting trivia regarding the Dow:
Reaches 995 on February 9, 1966. Doesn't bust it. It closes above 1000 finally on November 14, 1972 and doesn't reach 1100 until February 24 , 1983. (Wikipedia)
As far as a NASDAQ 5,000? We'll see it again the next time there is a revolutionary earth shattering technology.
I couldn't stand my wife...when I got home from work I went right down into the basement and taught myself HTML, Perl and Linux.
Thanks to my desire to avoid my now ex-wife, I got pretty good at coding.
Thanks I.T.!!!
Government machines have the distinction of being extremely insecure. There are lots of reasons, government requirements to contract out to "8A" corporations being one of them. "8A" corporations are small companies that the goverment has to sling a percentage of work to when contact time comes up. Oftentimes these are inexperienced folks who don't even know what a DOS prompt is.
We had a recurring nightmare scenario in the Army of someone successfully infilitrating our machines with "byte crack" (think HotBar) and that spyware would be a key logger that phones home and self destructs without a trace.
You know it's coming. It's also no secret that other governments have set up M$ networks for their cyber wargaming with the express purpose of taking them down and timing rebuild and recovery times (think MS/Shared source which the Chinese have purchased).
Oh no folks, it gets worse from here.....ESPECIALLY with NSA relying much more on OTS solutions. Remember the good ole days when the government had technology that couldn't be matched? A lot of future woes are going to be caused by the fact that John Q. Cracker can create encrypted malware that does all of it's damage so quick that the game is over by the time the Feds figure out what hit 'em. Feel better knowing that NSA is relying on M$ solutions more and more?
There will be more 9/11s, no doubt. Mainly because the U.S. has made no effort to understand our enemy very much disappointing the ghost of Sun Tzu.
For years we did everything we could to understand communism so we could undermine it and defeat it. It wasn't just the US that destroyed communism, but it was also an unworkable system (apologies to adherents of Saint Reagan).
We were not attacked because of "who we are". That is bat-shit stupid. We were attacked because of things like unquestionable support for Israel in EVERYTHING they do including the bad stuff, cozying up with dictators when it's convenient for our interests, and so on.
When you say things like "they hate us because of who we are" then obviously the only solution is to start bombing people, and it's even MORE non sensical when the place we are bombing has nothing to do with terrorism, such as pre war Iraq. This has already been proven by a bipartisan commission. If you plan on following up on this post I trust you'll keep that proven and non controversial fact in mind. Of course it's also non controversial that we just spent over 300 billion so far to now CREATE a terrorist petri dish out of Iraq.
Nope,...we understand nothing about the enemy and we understand even less about radical and fundamental Islam. This is why there will be more 9/11s to come. If you want to understand how little we really know, just look at the futility of bringing "democracy" to Iraq. You just can't invade and impose democracy. Assuming that we managed to kill three thousand Iraqis (an absurdly low figure by any estimate), and assuming that each of these three thousand have 3 other family members then you now have 9,000 who are thinking "Hmmm maybe bin Laden is right". 9,000 more recruits for jihad.
Fundamental Islam = Fundamental Christianity in terms of disgusting behavior. If you want to play the immature game of name calling then I suggest that you start referring to this administration as ChristianFascist.
While you're at it, start using "Stay and Die" when you say "Cut and Run".
Stop attaching TOTALLY unrelated shitty riders to bills. How about that?
Let's attach this here rider that rewards one of my biggest constituents to a bill that.. oh I don't know.... gives more financial assistance to the families of firemen and policement killed in 9/11. There's a special place in hell for congressmen who pull that.
No doubt that the U.S. ** IS ** the greatest democracy ever, but it has some serious shortcomings in this area. (And yes, regardless of our horrible directions we've taken these last six years, American government DOES correct itself.. eventually).
Car owners would still be using the power grid which depends overwhelmingly on coal so you can now exploit your own countrymen! Look on the bright side, you would then be using a U.S. resource.
Eastern Kentucky sits on the Saudi Arabia of coal. It's coal powers the engine that drives this country's electric grid and still it's the poorest place in America. Probably because it's residents overwhelmingly vote for politicians who share their "values" who later sell them out to industry interests.
So on the one hand, I am sad that they're poor and on the other hand that they can be so stupid. Just saying.....
What I really fear is the torture that Tibetans are going to endure before the Olympic games. They're gonna be looking for a platform and China is probably just gonna round 'em up.
Yet, the more you get China hooked on the milk from the capitalist tit the closer you are going to come to something resembling revolution and the ousting of Communism. It's moving pretty fast now.

here's why... (Pops new) We now HAVE an internal arms struggle in this country.
Orrin Hatch got this piece of crap introduced and passed and has also taken almost $400K From the entertainment lobby.
America, best government money can buy®
to Vietnam or China. Always seems to work that way in outsourcing. Outsource to a place that's cheap and then they outsource to a cheaper place.
Might be a few years before you see an IT industry in Niger though.

EVERYBODY PANIC!!!!!
I can't imagine the Chinese even remotely allowing it's citizens to view articles about the Dalai Lama for example, or anything that seems pro-Taiwan.
Is it possible to think of a number better than a one with a hundred zeros behind it?
Yep...... 1
Although it is the loneliest number..
