Who says life was ever FAIR anyway? And besides, the thing holding back humanity fron further evolution is this incessant, ridiculous idea that somehow humans have the "right" to their own, exclusive piece of land based on what bullshit god they bow to or what shade of pigment is in their skin. Rubbish, I say. The Israelis don't have a right to a homeland, Palestinians don't have a right to a homeland, nor does anyone on this planet. I believe that this is the "make or break" idea of humanity at the moment.

Here is the text in full. I agree wholeheartedly with you, sir, on the issue of IP, and, furthermore believe that it would be in the best interest of ALL Americans if in order to curb digital piracy, the Entertainment industry worked together with the IP community and the makers of processors and microchips in order to more accurately follow the trends of media consumption. I propose a brave new world order to you Sir, and with the cooperation of a company like Verisign, and the broad, important, vitally necessary powers the President and Government have recently obtained through the Office of Homeland Security, and The Office of Information Awareness, I am certain that in a year's time we can have every American citizen fitted with a simple microchip for identification purposes. I am also certain that you realize the very real marketing opportunity afforded to a company such as Disney, and I simply cannot contain the joy within my heart, the joy which cries out, that finally, the new world order is upon us, and the forces of right and power will have soon taken their rightly place amongst the kings of the earthly empire, and that one day we may all be subjected to one authority, that of equality, under the Empire, with scorn for the dissident and praise for the polyglot cultural renaissance!! Come on now.

Very simple solution to this problem.

Namely, help your friends migrate to Linux, find open source solutions already in place for office productivity, games and networking, write and distribute music and audio production software for Linux comparable to that on Windows, such as Acid or Cubase, and watch the user base grow.

That's the real issue though, isn't it?

You guys apparently don't want to grow the user base of Linux, nor do many of you actually care whether or not people use GNU/Linux as much as many of you simply hate Microsoft.

Well, fair enough, MS has a poor record as far as it's anti-competitive behaviour, and Windows 98 is a piece of Shit OS without lots of hard work and hours upon hours of patching.

Windows XP, however, when properly patched and firewalled, and with certain "services" shut off, works very very well, with as much uptime as I wish to eat kilowatt hours.

So, Linux users, instead of FUD, and bashing, why don't you actually steer people toward a solution, rather than mock and villify them for not being able or willing to run an OS (Damn good one too)that often requires them to edit text files and scripts from a command line to do something as simple as set up a video card, which, in Windows XP happens automatically.

    I have a sincere question.

If, as the article claims, the decoding of A/V happens at ChipLevel, and with Palladium, A/V without a license key will not decode, what does this mean for me? I am a musician, independent, and with little marketability considering the industries standards.

I do wonder if perhaps this will make it either next to impossible or seriously cost prohibitive to produce music without paying a distribution/cartel licensing fee to the content industry.

Since Biden's bill prohibits "illicit authentication features" attached to software, it could become unlawful to distribute software that would run on a Palladium-outfitted computer without Microsoft's permission."

A soundfont is a sound sample, created by EMU Corp., which is stretched along the keys of a keyboard, so it can be played as an instrument. I use them extensively, for example to get those old analog sounds like the Moog and Mellotron, without the overhead of having to own or maintain these monstrosities. The Soundfont works by using the chip on the soundblaster sound card.
