What is there left to post? Any science or tech article outside of the IT world is guaranteed to produce an avalanche of specious, ill informed or just plain stupid comments. The best always point out some glaringly obvious non-flaw in the plan "Hurh, hurh, those scientists are so dumb. How are they going to beam solar power on a cloudy day? Bet they never thought of that. They're not so smart..."
Don't eat so much! You'll live longer. Humans aren't meant to carry an extra third or more of their bodyweight in fat.
Not only will you live longer, your remaining years will be much more enjoyable without knees and hips failing under the load, diabetes and all the fun complications it brings and being unable to walk a block without having to stop twice to catch your breath. Seriously, put down the cheeseburger, turn off the tv and get up off the couch.
Why not? Reel in the shrouds on one side and lengthen them on the other and the whole sail is tilted with respect to the capsule, and you start to change course. You can't tack (I think) but a broad reach should work.
There is a right way and a wrong way to ask for help in an open source forum.

Why New Systems Fail

Are you liable for the bugs in your system? By liable, I mean if it kills someone are you legally responsible? If it breaks at the wrong time or produces an incorrect result will you have to pay for the financial losses incurred by your users? These things are also included when you call yourself an engineer.
"Is there anyone on this website who cares a whit about Windows 7?"
/Raises hand/ That would be me. I want a stable 64-bit OS so I can run AutoCad with more than 3.5 GB of usable RAM. Our IT people intend to skip Vista so, yes, the advent of Windows 7 is indeed of interest to me.
"Unfortunately, teachers are not well-payed, so it's hard to get people into the field, period, let alone men."
Just arguing for arguments sake here, but haven't you got it backwards. If it was hard to get people into any field, the supply would be low, the demand high and basic economic theory would tell us that the price (salary) should be high? Low salaries for teachers indicates to me an abundant supply and a limited demand. No? Am I missing something obvious?
There is a branch of Applied Science where discrimination and outdated sexist attitudes still rule. The gender balance there is so heinously skewed that no other explanation is possible. There are those that suggest that perhaps persons of the under-represented gender simply aren't interested in this profession, or perhaps they lack the skills to do well, but clearly they are just making excuses for the sexist bigots that still dominate this field. I'm talking, of course, about the School of Nursing, where only 5% of the graduates are men.
I remember after one flood there some clueless tv commentator asking why the Bangladeshis (Bengalis?) don't build dikes. The answer was - "build dikes out of what? We don't even have rocks"
I'm not really disagreeing with you, but there does seem to be two mutually exclusive ideas of "what is a netbook?" out there.
One is what you describe, an iPod touch with a 7' - 9" screen, basically an oversized PDA. It might have an ARM cpu, run Linux or Android. Does any such device that actually exist?
The other is a fully functional PC, just smaller. Intel Atom Cpu, winXP, 4+ hour battery. This is what is actually being sold as a netbook.
I own an eeePc, I paid $350, it runs MS Office (feh, work), Autocad (if you squint a bit), and all my older games (Homm 3, Diablo 2, Starcraft...). The 9" iTouch wouldn't meet my needs, I wouldn't buy one. I'm wondering how low you would have to price one to compete with the eePC. I think it would have to be well below $200 to sell.

Enterprise vs Imperial Star Destroyer. Which spaceship would win?
Two days ago someone used both lose and loose correctly in a post. Today it was effect. If I see someone use FUD to mean "a statement (which may be true) designed to cause Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt" rather than "any statement which is untrue or I believe is untrue" then I will know that the End of Days is at hand.
A little internet paleontology for you- Back in the days of IE4 "push" technology was the next big thing and PointCast was the big player in push. They turned down a $450 million purchase offer because they figured they could do better. The market for "push" tanked and they turned down ever lower offers and in the end I think they got about $7 mil.
Reminds me of the Arts student in our dorm leaving the fridge door propped open to cool the place down on hot days. Yes, we mocked him savagely. Not sure if he ever did get it, heat and temperature were the same thing to him.
I don't know how we ever got the idea that police work is particularly dangerous. (Wait...yes I do...from the police!). Police work isn't even in the top 10 most dangerous occupations. Death rate for Loggers about 95 per 100,000 per year, pilots about 90, steel workers about 50. Police are about 6 per 100,000. Only about 1/2 of the police deaths are due to encounters with violent criminals, the rest are things like traffic accidents and heart attacks. We don't condone brutality on citizens by garbage collectors, and their job is 5 times as dangerous as the police.
Is there a such a thing as a wireless streaming video camera? Then if you happen to film the cops in some sort of dubious behavior, you can hand over the camera like a good little citizen when the cops ask for it, knowing that the video is safe on a server somewhere miles away?
