Sorry Scot but I'm not going to spend big bucks for an entirely new computer that doesn't run PC apps, is slower and goes backwards as far as file systems is concerned. If I'm missing something in linux and BeOS I can always reboot to Windows. Sure there's virtual pc but it doesn't work for games and you pay more to make your computer slower. I might consider a mac if it came with a card with an athlon or pentium so that I can run PC apps natively but again this costs serious money!
either the shareholders will block the merger or US/EU anti-trust regulators will and then HP and Compaq will look pretty dumb. And they'll still be losing money while Dell moves ahead
yes but Compaq didn't come out with an iPaq (RIP) with linux installed. HP is coming out with a linux Jornada. Palm vs PocketPC vs linux who will come out on top? Maybe a 3-way tie? I'd like that:)
if the PocketPC was the only thing that mattered then Casio and Jornada would be selling just as well as iPaq. However iPaq managed to make a name for itself and it has fancy hardware. Now that HP bought Compaq we can kiss iPaq goodbye. Furthermore, HP is coming out with a linux Jornada. Think about it-they have the potential to wipe out PocketPC from the face of the earth just like that if they wanted to. They could have a pda with the same hardware as pocketpc's and not have to pay Microsoft for the OS
The signs:
1) declining computer sales which leads to
2) computer companies either leaving or merging (such as this big one)
3) game consoles, pda's and other non PC devices are more compelling than PC's
4) killer virus worms that can destroy your hardware and fool everyone you know into clicking on an infected file (as I write this a new magistr variant has been discovered)

are you blind? can't you see that huge Tux on www.hp.com?
Come on already-linux needs this badly. I'm not saying there should be a deadline but I would like to see more progress from time to time. And why aren't the other big linux backers behind this? If this was the standard UI for linux you'd see a lot of killer applications that you couldn't do on Windows
have you even used linux? Linux has been using GUI's for years. Linux is also in the Sharp Zaurus and Tivo.
Sony themselves screwed it up by using a lame CPU and forcing it to rotate the screen at the same time.
not to mention running Windows XP!

maybe he wants to play solitaire on his server :)
for a second there I was worried that Osama bin Laden would have access to the Enigma and be one step ahead of the CIA!
all it would prove is that life can live on Mars. It won't tell us how it got there or if it is possible for it to live or be created anywhere else

probably a country where the US sends its troops in to protect their butts :)

I assure you, if they are like typical Christian homeschoolers, they are probably reading The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander
and what did Clinton do for EIGHT YEARS about stem cell funding? Absolutely nothing. So give us a break
