Although there's alot of Mini-ITX cases available for the PC (Apple appears to be copying the PC market), this one DOES IT RIGHT.
And remember that small form factor PCs didn't come out until after the G4 Cube showed them how to do it right (well, except for the pricing thing). This is essentially the next generation of the cube, but at a time when the market is ready for it, and with the right price point...
Apple used to have a training program that was made in Director, and this is exactly what it did. It had a mock desktop, folders, apps, etc. It walked you through the basics of using the mouse, opening documents, word processing, etc -- all within the full screen application that resembled the Mac desktop. Once you got the hang of that you were ready to wreak havoc on your the real desktop...
First thing I did with my new Antec Sonata was disconnect the front blue lights.
Considering you have to hook the lights up in the first place, I doubt it was the first thing you did...OTOH, I've been curious about hooking the lights up to one of the "Fan Only" voltage regulated plugs on the PS - get some cool brightening/dimming effects depending on load. Maybe I'll try that when I get home this evening...
Yeah, I used to work with a Steve. There was this one time where his machine had a kernel panic. So it can happen. Just cos you're named Steve doesn't mean you're immune...
I like to make an ISO of the disc first using DVD Decryptor so that I can get the returns back in time. That way, I also have something to fall back on in case I don't like how DVDShrink automagically compressed it. Honestly, I've found that the extra steps only take an extra minute or two anyways. Having movies go straight to the main menu is nice, rather than having to hit FFWD 3 or 4 times. Also, all those short intro clips add up to a coupla hundred megs (uncompressed) pretty quickly. Just my $0.02...
I've found that the combination (assuming you're running Windows) of DVDDecrypter, PGCEdit, and DVDShrink do the trick perfectly. DVDDecrypter will remove the FFWD protections on the logo files, previews, etc. PGCEdit will allow you to kill the playback entirely of any of those FBI warnings, studio logos, etc. that you don't want to see. And DVDShrink will let you compress the remaining video down to DVD-R size. I've shrunk 8GB DVDs down to DVD-R size with only minor quality loss. It also doesn't hurt that I have a fairly crappy TV. Either way, this takes care of both of your problems, since you now have DVDs that only contain the content that you want, and you have backups in case yer kid mangles them...
I just ran it on my work machine (which apparently was zombified and cleaned up before I started working here). Came up with a clean bill of health, so I guess whoever did the cleanup did a pretty good job (FYI, I also run Spybot and AdAware regularly on it). I noticed that the process/executable is still named GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe. I'm assuming that's something MS plans to change in the future. Also, under the Advanced Tools > System Explorer > Shell Execute Hooks, it lists Microsoft.AntiSpyware.ShellExecuteHook1 as an unknown type. I would really hope they clean that up before final release....
Im pretty sure that in 5 years, Winamp will still be around and still be able to play MP3's.
Yet another person confusing consumer playback with mid to high end production. He's talking about the multitude of multitrack recording programs out there. Will there be a program in 50 years that will be able to open the Cakewalk files someone made in their basement in their youth (assuming that person becomes the next Lennon or somthing)? Will I be able to open the tracks that I recorded 7 years ago in Deck II on my old Mac? (I honestly haven't tried opening them in anything recently). This is what he's talking about, not about whether there will still be something that can play CDs...
hey dipshit, please don't confuse 2" reel-to-reel at 15 inches per second with 1/8" compact cassette at 1-7/8 inches per second. there's a fucking world of difference...
I like how Notepad puts in additional spaces in lines if you have wordwrap enabled. Or how it sometimes doesn't redraw the text right if you remove sections...
It's not like we have a magnitude 9 quake every year. This one was the fourth largest in the past 100 years, so we can approximate one this size every 25 years or so. Couple this with the slowing rotation of the Earth and we have a nice system that keeps itself somewhat in balance. Of course, this is all pure speculation that I'm pulling straight out of my ass...
I seem to remember seeing something a few months ago about the earth's rotation slowing a bit -- something that the scientists can't seem to explain. Any chance this sort of thing could be related or a partial explanation?
cannae do?

Wow, if this happens watch out for Bill Gates. He'll win so many lawsuits that he'll be rich!
Ummm...never? They're PhDs. They'll simply hold conferences to discuss the bug...

Hey, this ain't NASCAR!
Are you referring to some sort of paradigm shift or something?
But by going after little Susie or gramma they can make the claim that they're doing something about piracy...

What's an FCC?

For once, everyone will have an excuse for not RTFA.
Better be careful with this thing if you take your laptop to a LAN party. "Ummm, who threw out all the pizza boxes? SHIT!!!"
You never know who is relaxing his tired mind fragging monsters in Quake this very moment. It could very well be this century's Einstein.
Yup, it sure is...

There is nothing for you to eat here. Please move along.
Even if you didn't know what was going on, it doesn't take too much brainpower to infer that EA is trying to take over Ubisoft...

Here are two prior /. articles I found on the subject thanks to google (cos /.'s search sucks so bad)...
Is the Earth's Rotation Changing?
