I get calls when anything over £300 is taken on my debit card.. or over £500 on my credit card.

I used to get those, they would call up and ask me to confirm TO THEM my date of birth, my address, mothers maiden name, etc, all this so see if I have spent my own money? Can I have something a little more secure than that please?
Answer, yes I can, I switched banks, one that not only hasnt outsourced everything to another country where customer services sound like Apu or Manjula from The Simpsons (no offence, but they do), but also take customer privacy and security a little more seriously.

I guess the bigger idiot theory works well for banks too...

I agree with the statement, but I think its more akin to one cigarette company making claims that another cigarette company is less harmful to people's health than their brand. Buy Microsoft brand cigarettes today, guaranteed 10% less lung cancer victims than open source alternatives.

    Dear Slashdot

Your mods seem to be getting more and more silly in the way they dish out mod points, why just yesterday I was modded down as offtopic for stating a fact. Ok maybe I should have had "-1 State the bleeding obvious" or "-1 Smartarse" but not offtopic.

I guess we can only hope that those same mods arent meta moderating those kind of mod points.

Anyways the bigger picture here is that this so called 8mb is only available to a *very* small ammount of the population, and upon closer inspection it seems to be a scam to use the promise of faster downloads (namely pr0n and warez no doubt) to advertise their 500k and 1mb products.

Yes I am in the UK, yes I have tried to sign up, yes I have read their TOS, I didnt even hear about this on slashdot, I saw an advert for it on the tube yesterday.

As a programmer myself, I would advise you to taste quite a few programming languages - excel at one, and be adequate at many. That way a potential employer can see a range of skills, giving you more chance of aquiring said role.

Its very easy to pick up a second or third language after you have the grasp of one, and by the time you know 4 or 5, it will literally take you 2 days to be competent in virtually any language.
