Would there a way to filter out the illegal stuff, and still keep the system up? That way, those who have legit uses for it (Linux ISO's, etc.) can still use it.
Yeah, there's going to be people who rename stuff to pass it as legit stuff, but it's going to be mixed in with the legit stuff and harder for most people to find, unless the know someone who has the file (or torrent).
Just because it's would be available to linux users as well, doesn't mean that it has to be Open Source. There are plenty of Linux programs that aren't, games mostly, but Win4Lin and VMWare are just a couple more. There are closed source X Servers, too. So, open-sourceness isn't a requirement for linux development/deployment.
Excuse the poor formatting, it's one of my few times using Lynx to post here. Word wrapping doesn't seem to want to display properly when I'm typing.
He's making a comment about how the military inflates the cost of various items so they can funnel the extra money to not-publicly-approved projects.
Have you never watched the scene in Independence Day when they're at Area51, and the old Jewish dude makes a comment about "What, you think they actually spend $20 000 for a hammer, and $30 000 for a toilet seat?"
why not use the Debian package system as the standard? its implemented better, using apt. Enter one command and everything needed to install the program is downloaded and installed, no need to go hunting for various rpms of libraries that may or may not exist.
or combine Gentoo's portage and Debian's Apt. This way, the user could decide whether to use a precompiled binary or the source code (where available).
I think he's talking about the "suspend" or "sleep" feature. Its been in there since 98, but I've NEVER had it work right, on 98, 2k or XP, my system always froze. That would be a nice feature in any OS, press a button and its off, press it again and you're back where you were.
whats so bad about it? The hardest thing may be editing make.conf and maybe using fdisk (but there are many other ways of partitioning, with many other graphical tools which can be used instead). So its not a point and click like mandrake/redhat/suse, but I found it much easier than debian or bsd (because i actually ended up with a usable system afterwards:> ) and much more responsive and straight forward than any graphicall install.
oh they are QUITE strong, in several behind the scenes clips from Starwars.com, you can see the Anakin/Dooku duel (the closeup scenes with the glow bouncing off the characters faces) where they use blades very similar. I also know many people who own Park's products and they dues with them quite regularily (some fo them go all out on them)
If he made movie replicas, yes. But he doesn't, he makes his own designs, and was one of the first to use the Electro-Luminecent acryllic-something blades (nearly indestructible blades that kind of look like a Timex Indiglo but in various colours)
Floppy wasn't working? What wasn't working with it? Couln't mount it? Wasn't in the/dev folder?
I've got 8.1 running on my machine and I've not had any problems with getting my floppy running (it was usually automatically set up).

Jeez, who in the general public would really care?
The name "Linux" is a lot more familiar than "GNU". And since it's a news article, they're not going to go uber-technical in the descriptions.
What other OS that uses GNU apps has as much public exposure and name-reccognition as Linux?
If it's taking too long for you, you should get a faster system.:)
or try it on my PII-350.

Hey, I liked Bill & Ted. He was perfect for that role.

Jeez, I nearly choked on my pasta when I read that! What evil sick mind begat this????
Oh yeah, one more thing. Can you legally own MS Windows if they implement their suscriber model? You can with Red Hat.
But are there other ways of upgrading RH? How about MS?
A Mac one would be nice. I might actually buy one (a Mac) then.
It went into scandisk if I powered off without shutting down properly. Even with NTFS.

1138 also has some small cameo in every movie he has made since.
I'd rather melt them and make wierd sculptures.
I believe that was meant as a joke

Its StarOffice 6 that comes with Mandrake, I believe. Anyways, I'm going to download OO when I get home.
