Yeah because taking a loss on a platform in order to sell content for it is something only Microsoft does. And boy they really fucked us over on the price of the Xbox didn't they?
All sarcasm aside, this is not a new thing, and I seriously doubt that even Microsoft thinks they're going to achieve total market dominance by undercutting the iPod by $5.
I have dedicated PvP characters in the 10-19 and 30-39 bracket. The 30-39 character isn't really twinked (and isn't even at 39 yet) and does alright - not spectacular, I still get my ass one-shotted by twinked rogues on a regular basis, but I have fun. The 10-19 character is mildly twinked. I went with mid-range enchants, I've got all of one BoE blue, and just fiery enchants on my weapons. If I didn't have at least these things it would be basically no fun at all because I would never even get a shot in before being killed by the army of opposing twinks. Also, I play Alliance, and we always lose WSG anyway.
I just realized that I'm basically saying "I twink because they twink." It's stupid but it's true. A 10-19 character, appropriately geared for their level, cannot hope to even make a dent in most of the people who play in that bracket. At this point it's not just assuming that there will be a twink on the other team, so you should twink too, it's hoping there there will be one guy on the other team who isn't twinking so you'll get more than one hit in before you die. In the higher brackets characters have more abilities, and can depend on them more, but in 10-19 you're really only as good as your equipment. For the record, I am totally in favor of having a separate class of PvP where you get a default set of equipment upon joining the battleground. Also separate games for premade groups.
I'm loving this quote from the comments on ilounge
"i hope MS has done some studies on the effects of wearing magnetics against ones brain for prolonging periods of time??
considering that our brain works on magnetic pulses i am sure that this one feature alone will be enuff to turn a sh*tload of people off"
Because regular headphones don't have magnets, right?...right?

The End of E3?

Are you kidding me? It's already ridiculously expensive to get in.
No, E3 has always been a big self-centered circle jerk for the game industry and media. I won't be at all sad to see it go and be replaced with something more gamer-oriented. The "gaming media" is a joke, and doesn't need a special event in their honor.
Me: "Hi, I need to cancel one of my AOL accounts"
CSR: "Alright, let me get your information"
*does so*
CSR: "So why are you cancelling?"
Me: "Oh I love AOL! I'm cancelling my account because I moved back in with my mom so I only need the one account because we only have one phone line"
CSR: "Alright, done, thank you for using AOL"
I was cancelling a free trial I signed up for to get a free iPod, he never asked what my "mom's" account was.
I'm horrible at drawing things by hand, definitely not what you'd term an "artistic" person in the traditional sense. When I discovered computers and graphic programs it was awesome because I was able to use technical skill express my artistic side that would otherwise never have seen the light of day.
With the usual IANAL disclaimer I'd say notify any credit agencies you deal with about the possible theft of your identity. Do it in writing and make sure you've got records of it.
If someone actually does try to steal their identity, you've got written proof that you alerted them to possible fraud beforehand, and that should make it easier to avoid any responsibility they may try to pin on you.
I agree about the speech thing. I've found Route 66 to be incredibly crummy program in general though. It has been unable to find addresses on several occasions (when other software could), and the interface is horrible. I've actually started using Microsoft MapPoint on a Virtual PC (which has several great plugins, including a turn-by-turn voice direction one. It's too bad - one of my major reservations about getting a Mac was the lack of mapping/navigation software. Seems it was justified.
For all the press Washington and the Seattle area get for being a center of technology, we never get any of the cool technologies. Damn you, California!
Case modders have been trying to do it with laptop displays for awhile now. The general consensus is that it's more trouble/money than it's worth.
Check here for some LCD controllers and tips on how to put it together. The problem is that the controllers often cost as much or more than a cheap LCD by itself.
I hardly think making them remove Media Player will help competition. That seems like a very specific solution to a broader problem. Also, sharing code doesn't make sense.
Microsoft is being anticompetitive by doing things like strongarming OEMs and spreading FUD around. Bundling a media player and browser isn't exactly evil, IMHO.
I know a couple people with Focuses, and besides having a very mod-unfriendly dash, they seem to really love them.
But that's 2001+ - they may have fixed some of the problems by then.
Well, I know they say Symbian will beat SmartPhone because of its licensing stuff, but as a consumer I find myself more drawn to SmartPhone because it has more software (being very similar to PocketPC, I've seen a lot ported over). Symbian, as far as I can tell, doesn't have as much third party free software.
I may be wrong, but I thought I'd throw in my opinion as a consumer considering buying a next generation phone.
Standard response to anything that makes something easier (or just require less skill). A good GUI? If you need it you shouldn't be on a computer. Automatic transmission? For sissies who can't drive stick.
Truth is, a lot of drivers out there are probably a hazard to the rest of us, but anything that assists them and makes them less of a hazard is a good thing in my opinion.
Just because you're good at parallel parking, manual shifting, and using a command line doesn't mean that anyone who can't do those things well is inferior.

I prefer to get my IT news from the Hindustan Times. Seriously though, it has a little more/different information that may be worth checking out.
Linux has a strong hold in the server market, but not so much with clients. It would seem be holding true here too, but not for the same reasons.
