    I've used OpenSolaris (which has containers) under virtualbox without any problems.

    The Sun binaries are built by paid professionals who wrote and understand the code. The debian package will be built by someone who doesn't understand what he's doing, but commenting out that code prevents compiler warnings so it must be an improvement.

    OS X and Desktop linux are gaining mindshare and deskshare. Microsoft needs the rethink their role and what an operating system is. I occasionally run windows via virtualbox (in seamless mode) on my Macintosh. Many others use parallels, VMWare, Wine, etc. Much like NeXT transitioned from an operating system to an API/Framework (running under NT, HPUX, Solaris, OpenStep 4,2, etc), I think MS needs to provide a wine-like solution allowing windows applications to run under other operating systems. This would allow them to keep their Win32 API as a majority standard even as their core OS shrinks into irrelevancy.

    Quake and Doom were developed on NeXTStep 3.3. On hardware with less computational power than an iPhone.

    He left in 85. Apple's decline was after (much after), not because of. If you look at some of his decisions wrt to Apple III, Lisa, early Macintosh, and even NeXT, it's entirely conceivable he would have driven the company into the ground.

    youtube is a huge money sink. They probably can't afford to hire people that have experience in audio compression, test different algorithms, etc. As to why... video and sound quality varies a lot, so they probably are trying to make everything more equal, so the viewer doesn't need to adjust their volume for every video.
