Wrong. It's called "Services For Unix", not "Services For Linux". And it doesn't provide Linux binary compatibility (like SCO, Solaris, and *BSD provide).
Like Al Gore? Brin and Page own special preferred stock that effectively means they still retain control of the company. They (as well as Google employees, many of whom live in liberal California) vote (and donate) overwhelmingly democratic.
if you're willing to spend 5 minutes on ebay, you can find a beta VCR and a 5.25 floppy drive. I'm mentioning this because NASA uses ebay to find parts for their outdated computers.
maybe we can smuggle all the insurgent IED scientists out of Iraq and pump some fresh blood into NASA. On second thought, maybe that's not a good idea.
I've heard opera's javascript interpreter was supposed to be fast. So, I just did a quick, totally non scientific (only one run, other minor activity in the background, etc) of a the slickspeed selector test, which tests various javascript libraries for their speed/accuracy. This was performed on Windows XP:
Smaller numbers are faster, so opera is faster (in this test) than firefox. The toolkits, btw, are
prototype, iQuery, mootools, ext, cssQuery, and dojoQuery).
my buddy works at citrix. They use some linux boxes on their intranet, but they're not down with it. A cpuple days ago, we were out drinking and looking for tail. He's not a penguin, but he knows I am. He mentioned that Xen would be close sourced, but that was just his educated guess. If ESR or Bruce Perens can get the ear of the CxOs, maybe they'll keep it GPL.
I like to violate other people's copyrights and then kneejerk whenever someone is accused of violating the spirit of the GPL just as much as anyone. However, there are currently 2 RIAA lawsuit stories on the front page (that's approaching google/apple territory) and over half of the yro page are New York Country Lawyer/RIAA posts. Please give it a fucking rest. RIAA is bad. Single MILFs are good. And RIAA lawyer (and roland picquelle) have blogs we can read if we want to. The firehose is full of far more interesting shit than this circle jerk.
I remember it from the 90s as well... it's like the interactive fiction version of goatse.
Another classic story I vaguely recall involves a guy masturbating while reading a book about sex with midgets. He then proceeds to do some coke and start hacksawing his leg. When that doesn't work, he grabs a chainsaw, amputates his leg, and shoves it up his ass before having an insane orgasm. Anybody else remember it? I've tried googling but amputee midget masturbation porn seems to be a popular fetish.
I agree. There are a lot of minor interface usability issues. Like a date input field that required the month to be 2 digits. Nevermind that 75% (9/12) months are only 1 digit long. Or a dropdown date selector that lets you pick invalid dates (feb 31st) and then complains about it rather than a) disallowing it via javascript or b) assuming you actually meant feb 28th. Or the gmail "report spam", "delete" and "archive" buttons being right next to each other (I've accidentally reported spam instead of deleting more than once).
The server side tech might be totally fucking awesome, but the front end is mediocre.
google is the best at buying upstart companies to replace their own failed offerings. They also beat out yahoo on fucking up user interfaces (groups.google.com).
this is a "deposition". Before the trial, there is a process called "discovery" where lawyers interview people who might have relevant facts (or sometimes they submit a written deposition). There's a lot more leeway than when calling a witness at the actual trial.
remember when slashdot's comment parent id index overflowed (24 bits ought to be enough for anybody!) and slashdot was broken for 36 hours or so while it reindexed?
As an aside, postgresql would be slower to do the initial data load but it the table is accessible all the while. It's even accessible while indexing is taking place.
Get a low end 64-bit computer running opensolaris with a nice fat ZFS pool. We use that for backing up laptops at my OSS consultation firm. It works great.

ZFS will. Traditional RAID may suffer though: all the drives will have the same write pattern. Make sure your flash drives aren't all the same age!
I've peed on many a front lawn. Never seen one with a toilet, though.
Most of their shareholders support GWB

I read that as barrio puta, ie, "neighborhood slut".

it reminds me of another T company -- Transmeta. I wonder if they'll hire RMS to work on HURD....
They use a version of gcc/bintools in their sdk.

that makes me pine for the good old days when comp.lang.c et alia were filled with students asking for solutions to their homework.
Hans Reiser has killed more people than Microsoft. Who's the evil one here?

viacom pays for, and owns, the content in question. Google/youtube doesn't have a right to leach their content (and gainad money/mindshare from it).

They probably made their money investing in the red hat and va linux IPOs.
exception: slashdot editors.
