    Only if you audit the source code and compile it yourself. But first you'll need to audit and bootstrap a compiler to make sure the compiler isn't trojaned.

    "living wage?" That probably means $10-$15 an hour. Fine if you're looking for college students, I guess, but it's a pretty significant pay cut for the kind of talent they probably want.

    ugh, have you seen "professionally published" ebooks? many are shitty conversions that look like ass. Ok, a publisher ought to proofread and edit... but judging by the errata and poor layout on many technical books, that just not happening either.

    Brad Cox liked C, but it was missing OOP. So he created Objective C, a pure superset of C that embraced the C-ness but added a smalltalk inspired runtime and OO.

    Bjarne Stroustrup wanted to create a new OO (or whatever) language, but he knew that creating an entirely new language was a dead end. He hated C, but it was popular, so he embraced and extended.

    He's not a billionaire because of advertising, he's a "billionaire" (on paper) because of his facebook stock (which isn't traded on the open market so the valuation is arbitrary and based, more so than usual, on hype). So starting a high growth company pays.

    Summary: not illegal/unconstitutional for the government to track your car, probably a crime if you find tracker and do anything with it.

    Adobe's 32-bit carbon apps suck ass. They're somewhat better in Windows, but they've still got a horrible and inconsistent UI.

    Both Adobe and Microsoft (and Intel for that matter) desperately want to get into the mobile space, but they're failing miserably. Adobe's coding teams seem to be a bunch of indians that try to use flash for all their interface elements. Creative Suite Vista **shudder**

    My current job does an annual review/raise on the anniversary of your hire date (so I haven't had a raise in 6 months, but I'll have one in 3 months and I had one 9 months ago). Previous job gave out promotions (and raises) every so often (depending on your development) and had annual reviews/raises in June (well, except when a salary freeze was in place). A 12-month time frame would be a more meaningful measure.

    There are also unnamed co-conspirators -- Google is suing Motorola (also HTC, though that was settled) and Apple is suing HTC, but they're really suing Google by proxy.

    I saw the leaked HP slate video a couple weeks back (I assume this was it). Highlights:
    • mouse pointer is visible when windows starts up then hides
    • you have to press a physical button to toggle the on screen keyboard
    • there's a physical button for alt-control-delete
    • touching performs a mouse click at that location, with a touch indicator/animation.
    • slow/jerky scrolling in internet explorer.

    It's windows 7 with some half-assed touch support bolted on. it will run your existing windows software but your windows software was designed for mouse and keyboard. I think you would need to be really desperate to go anywhere near it (this characterization applies to Microsoft, manufacturers, and consumers)

    clang is BSD-compatible and better (for various definitions of "better") than gcc. The c++ support isn't production quality yet (their words) but I haven't had any problems with it.
