Ahh. . . for the days when Computer Shopper had a list of your "local BBS" numbers in the back and was
FIVE HUNDRED FREAKING PAGES LONG
Physically huge doesn't even begin to suggest how mammoth that thing was at it's peak ad volume. I believe an entire year of it's current issue bound into one magazine would be a fair approximation. It was worth the money back then too. I can't think of a single other source for that many computer retailers at the time.
That's true, I've noticed an increasing trend in heavy media coverage of computer related crime as far as the chase, catching the "criminal" and the beginning of the trial. . . HOWEVER I've seen precious little followup on sentencing, etc. I've really begun to wonder if a goodly percentage of those publicized as caught end up innocent (at least of the charges brought against them) and walk away. Eeh, it's probably just my paranoid mind at work. ..
No of course you didn't. . . They don't broadcast those kinds of channels on television.
It's very admirable that you switched hands enough to give it a go on both sides. I was also so tired after round one that I didn't have another go left in me.
I'm thinking you're right on the money here. I've seen these experiments and I just think there's an absolutely appalling lack of cruelty in them. Where have our pioneers gone? Why, when I was your age a man just didn't feel right in a lab coat if he didn't have a dozen vivisections under his belt by breakfast.
Yes, the amazing "technology" fix! Now available to the top 5% of the world that can afford it!
I invite you to visit the other 95%. I have. There's about as many people wearing safety equipment overseas as there are Democrats supporting George Bush.
At least you have W2k. My work had WFW 3.11 and the most ungodly serial port network on earth. We get a 20k upgrade budget. Do you know what the manager buys?
A sattelite dish so he can get the games on weekends. I don't miss that job at ALL.
Really it's fairly simple. I seem to recall from some basic classes that the reason behind a base-2 system is because an on/off state is a LOT more reliable than anything else.
Because voltage levels tend to drift a bit (especially with time and erosion) a system that's set up to read as either one state or another has quite a bit more built in tolerance for drift than one that's built to sense more than two states. It's been a LONG ass time since I took any compsci however so I'm probably missing a few things. Basically what I'm saying is that it's not only possible, such a system "could" be faster and more compact but it would also be horribly prone to errors in the long run.
You know you can download the "older" players and then just manually load the newer codecs. . .
THEN DITCH THAT POS and get yourself media player classic. Runa all the codecs, has none of the adware.
I second this, the only games I've EVER seen women play online (in order of preference)
#1 Counterstrike
#2 Everquest
#3 Dark Age of Camelot
I can't tell you the number of women I know that felt intimidated by counterstrike and went to another game and then as they gained skills came back to cs again and again. My wife plays quite a bit and we often play on the same side/server cooperatively. It's a hell of a lot of fun.
Actually that's completely false. The law often DOES hold you responsible if you make it easy for someone to steal your car.
Most states have laws (albiet laxly enforced) regarding leaving keys in an open vehicle or allowing a vehicle to idle without driver. In Alaska for instance the practice IS illegal as it DOES make car theft easier.
By leaving your car set up in a way that anyone (even a kid) could steal it you are supplying access to a potentially deadly resource to all comers. If you can't see how you could be held liable for that, I really suggest you pick up a good book on civl and criminal law and then ask yourself "would I feel right leaving out a gun where anyone could steal it without trying?"
I admit that spam isn't "potentially deadly" (unless anyone wants to give me addresses and a really good alibi) except perhaps to the spammers once we track the bastards down, but it's unfortunately the same concept and would most likely been seen in the same light by a civil if not criminal court.
Plus you're confusing the FCC with the FTC man. ..come on, you call yourself a geek?
I second that. A G5 is silent like a moped is fast. Sure it's quiet compared to the screaming 3.2ghz rig sitting next to it but that's not saying a hell of a lot. I've used some heatpipe cooled computer setups (there's a few noiseless PC manufacturers from S. Korea actually) and THAT is silent. With the right HD and optical drives, the only thing that will tell you your computer is on is the monitor and the power LED on the front.
Now, show me a theatre PC style case for one of these and I'll buy it tomorrow.
No, they're charging the producers that utilize it, not the end consumer (albeit they're doing that as well, but indirectly). They have all the responsibilities that a duck has to a toaster in regards to support issues.
Locally you can rent yourself a nice 10x30 office for around $175-250 a month. Seperating work and home does wonders for keeping one's mind sane.
For the same reason you shouldn't associate watching TV with the bedroom if you want to always have sound sleep you shouldn't associate work with home. I'm not saying that there aren't people out there that can't do it, I'm saying a LOT of us can't do it.
Plus it has the advantage that if you ARE an independent contractor having an office means you have a place to meet clients/etc if you ever decide to branch out or have to find other work.
What kind of hardware?
overclockers.com is pretty good for that sort of thing. What they review they review in a fairly even handed way. Dan's Data reviews a lot of fairly interesting equipment and while he IS biased towards his sponsor he comes out and says it. A good chunk of his products are from other companies tho. Anandtech has decent reviews. I tend to stay away from hardocp these days, they've been getting preachy and I find the way they handled false reporting pretty underhanded. Tom's Hardware is definately a piece of crap when it comes to reviews.
It "partially" works because you have antibodies to the virus already. Your body recognizes the particles of virus as a "bad guy" and while the virus tends to attack the tumor cells, the body itself is eliminating the virus and any tumor cells infected with it.
However, it appears that the virus itself is fairly effective at killing of tumor cells on it's own which is fairly interesting. As it's not associated with any pathogenesis this is definately an interesting step.
Yes you can get infected more than once, hell you can get reinfected over and over again. If you have antibodies it'll probably be a fairly asymptomatic infection (pardon my spelling).
An 8088 laptop with CGA screen that runs a parallel port relay system. Fear my expanded memory of 384kb!!!
Someday it's going to die and seeing the prices on current relay boards and systems I'll probably have to give up on using it for a central household timer.
Mmmm. ..checkcard. . all the convenience of a credit card and no legal limit to liability on fraudulent use. . .
Yeah, I think I'll be sticking with my credit card and federally mandated $50 limit on fraudulent charges. Thanks though, I really dig those visa check card commercials.
Since no one else has said it what about this technology?
From what I've seen, 5-10+ year lifespan, way more efficient than LEDs in terms of light output per watt.
Seeing as how I don't know of any area of the world where pengiuns and bears would interact. . . no.
I really suggest you watch more discovery channel before using these comparisons. They're insulting to penguins.
They've already done this in quite a number of places. Do a google search for it.
I know for a fact they're doing it in Poland and the UK at the moment.
More importantly, they're the most anal retentive paperwork carrying of any broadcaster out there.
Try to escape fees and you're going to have to be able to sit down and show EVERY song you played since you went "independent". I should know I worked for one.
We had an entire room that was devoted to nothing BUT proving we were 100% legal. Yes you can do it, but you better be prepared to not only fight but have the ammo to figh in the first place.
He's actually thinking of the old subway capsule designs dreamed up around the 1800's. A streamlined "capsule" would be pulled & pushed around by air pressure differentials in the tunnel it lay in. No working parts in the capsule itself.
Genius idea but wasn't implemented worth a damn. Plus sudden stops and starts made it a rather. . . adventuresome ride?
That's the reason for the need for absolute purity of the Si isotope they're using for it. There's reference in the article about the factor of purity needed to attain it.

Nice referal in the link ;)
