Not to mention, Chernobyl was a clusterfuck. They really screwed that one up good.
I think another thing most people don't realize is that nuclear power plants are pretty damned simple. There's really not all that much to them.
Check out www.howstuffworks.com. They have some good cutouts of various types of nuclear plants and you can see just how simple the design is.
There's nothing to fear. Like the poster mentioned, coal plants are much more radioactive then nuclear plants, and the waste is actually a lot more toxic as well. At least with nuclear plants, the sheer volume of waste is much, much less.
I hate SUV's. I used to only have to deal with vans and 18 wheelers, but now i have to worry about all the middle aged women running me over because they're checking their lipstick while talking on the phone.
The acting on TNG was really good. They got very lucky with the cast; all the actors were really great for their roles and they had a great dynamic with each other. It's what made the show so popular and why they made four movies once the show was over.
The original series had some good acting too; once they started making movies the overall acting improved ten fold. The old show was low budget and dramatized.
Yea I agree, I like Phlox. He's the only character that you can actually like.
I do agree that the T'Pol character is a little odd. At first, her character was way too stone cold frigid. So then they decided to loosen her up a little bit but they ended up going a little too far.
Since the rest of the show can't hold my interest though, it isn't bad looking at her.
Every single one of these drinks is just a sugary mess with lots of caffeine. It's a big marketing joke on everyone that buys into it.
You can buy a bottle of caffeine pills for next to nothing, if it's that important to you. 50mg caffeine each pill; pop three and you saved yourself $8 worth of nasty tasting "energy drinks."
For me, I'll drink my morning coffee and a few cokes during the day. Admitantly, I drink too much coke, but it's just so damned tastey. I could give a rats ass about Caffeine.
ps. Anyone that says they are addicted to caffeine is a poser.
They need to replace the entire cast (sans T'Pol of course) with new actors.
I originally thought that Scott Bacula would make a good captian, but he doesn't. All his dialogue seems forced. The first officer is even more annoying; he's a terrible actor and the character doesn't help him out any being a country bumpkin mechanic/first officer/chief engineer.
They could probably get away with holding on to some of the of the cast, but they need to change the characters quite a bit. The crew of the ship is supposed to be like a Navy ship, that's what the heirarchy is supposed to mirror. These characters are so unprofessional that they would all be kicked out of the Navy in a moment. Now, I know it's the future and everything is all roses but c'mon..
In The Next Generation, the crew was definately more loose then the US navy, but you definately had more of a feel of the chain of command and the characters behaved like the officers they were.
I'm just not interested in these characters. They have very little depth. You don't feel as though you know them at all, even after a few years of being on the air.
Maybe I just miss the Picard/Riker duo. Or maybe it's because ever since UPN took over Star Trek it just hasn't been good. Voyager wasn't that good, and neither is this one. It also doesn't help that UPN puts in commercials every 4 minutes. TNG and DS9 were both very good shows, from the pre-UPN era.
Oh well. They will just never be able to bring back the quality and popularity of TNG. TNG was once the most popular TV show on the planet; Enterprise does all it can do just to stay on the air.
It's not the size of the company, it's the level of greed in it's executives. IBM might have more top execs then a smaller company but not hundreds more.
Remember, it's not the companies screwing you, it's not the "government" screwing you. It's PEOPLE screwing you.
You shouldn't have to worry about being beat up, killed, or raped in prison. Being in prison is punishment enough.
I think the powers that be prefer prison to be a terrible, terrible place because they think that it's a deterrent. Too bad these people haven't learned anything in the last... recorded history of man..
I think the burdon should be on the spammer to prove that you DID opt-in, upon request.
The thing is, even if this guy's business was 100% legit, which everyone know's isn't anyways, it's a moot point for the vast majority of us. We get so much spam, how are we supposed to know that one is opt-outable and other one will put you to the top of the spammer's list?
Earth to Kenja, Joe and Jane won't be building a PPTP server, and they probably don't even know what a server is, besides what they hear about "web servers."
I do agree that SOME tasks are too complicated but when you take it down and realize that most people A) Do e-mail B) Surf web pages and C) Type letters and print them. And most people have a hard time setting their computer up just for that on a Windows box too.
I like Paypal, I mean, it does allow people without credit cards to make online purchases. And it is fast; I can buy something on ebay, pay for it, and many times the item is shipped within the same few hours.
Unfortunately, paypal has a heavy hand with it's customers. They charge a lot for their services, and you'd think they would appreciate the business more, but they don't seem to care. I mean, if you have so many customers, who cares right?
So, I just don't keep money in paypal. I use it to purchase things, and only very rarely to I use it to sell. If I do sell something, I immediately transfer the funds to my bank account. They make enough money on each transaction, they don't need to make money on interest from my money. And I don't want something funky to happen where they freeze my account.
Of course, if they do freeze my account with money in it for whatever reason, they will have me calling them every 15 minutes and a letter from a lawyer the next day. You can't just hijack someone's money. Whether they like it or not, when they hold your money, they are a bank. And banks can't hold your money for long without legal assistance.
I mean, you're right. Who needs free speech? Who needs a network where we don't have to worry about big brother watching and tracking everything we do?
So damned it to hell! Take away our freedoms because we don't use them anyways right!?
The internet taken down because people found out weaknesses in the sources and exploited them on running routers?
Isn't this what OSS is so good at preventing? Security through obscurity doesn't work, period. Maybe if they DO find holes and exploit them, it will underscore the need to have more core technologies open sourced.
"If they use less energy, does that also mean that these processors will give off less heat?"
I'll let you ponder that one for awhile.
Not to mention, Chernobyl was a clusterfuck. They really screwed that one up good.

The students and other users of their mail system will just have to use their own spam filters now.
It's not the end of the world. There's a few good spam filters for outlook and outlook express, and some really awesome free ones for linux/unix.
My friend has one of these so he can mouse around on his ridiculously large projection TV when his Xbox is in Linux.
It's quite easy to get used to the mouse in the air movements. The movement is smooth and natural.
And the best part is that you can put it down and use it like a normal mouse, too.
I can't speak for the overall quality of the product, but he's had his for a few years and it still works fine.

God, people keep posting this over and over. The Opterons aren't the AthlonXP's. The Opterons don't generate gobs of heat.
You can't prove that you didn't opt in like that.

This will have no practical use in the Slashdot community.

No offence man - I love canada.

But, a PDA can do a lot more then an iPod. And not too many PDA's have 60GB hard drives. I can see a lot of potential there.
I mean, you're right. Who needs free speech? Who needs a network where we don't have to worry about big brother watching and tracking everything we do?
So damned it to hell! Take away our freedoms because we don't use them anyways right!?
Must be Canada. They're always causing trouble.
Star Trek. It's the ship tag of the ship on the show Enterprise.
I think they will eventually evolve the iPod into a PDA. Seems inevitible.

Who did? Me? You? Who's this "we" you talk about?
Pretty sure they had it for the playstation or something, and it was really popular.
But I know what you mean.
PC games, since the age of the GUI (and even before, to an extent) often revolve around the mouse and the availability of many keys.
Well, it would probably run games like Starcraft just fine.
Just not the shiney new games like Battlefield.
