Everyone's so quick to bash Lucas, but seriously, have you people been paying any attention to his media campaign lately? He's really coming off like he's sorry for ep 1 & 2, and the whole special edition thing... I mean, ep is gonna be PG-13?!? He's said it'll be "Star Wars goes to Hell," for chissakes. That doesn't sound like the words of a man milking some cash-cow for all its worth... If it were, he'd be coming with more furry little ewaks.
Say what you want, but Lucas has always stuck to his guns over the years, creating HIS vision on the screen, not kowtowing what to a bunch of acned sci-fi dorks want to see. That takes integrity. Only time will tell if he can withstand the onslaught of attacks from lesser "fans" who probably never even filmed so much as a school play!
I just bought a nineteen-inch CRT last month for $150, and it plays games, does Photoshop, and shows DVDs just fine. People have been fortelling the death of the CRT for a while, but LCD is still too expensive, relative to CRT tech, for cheap/frugal/poor folks. A lot of us just don't see the value of a LCD screen (space, heat) justifing the higher cost. I certainly don't think LCD monitors look any better that time-tested CRTs.
I read what I could of the article and thought the author was exaggerating the benefits & performance of LCD screens. The author then tried to confuse the reader by bringing up the different technologies LCD's use and making incomplete comparisions between them. That was my take, anyway.
I nominate the Pope's death for deletion from Slashdot because Slashdot is not a repository of general news. Slashdot is about computers, the internet, technology, software, and other related news items. The Pope's death is Un-Slashdotic. Terri Schiavo's death would be a better candidate for a Slashdot article (under Politics) due to the political actions surrounding her death, and there is no Terri Schiavo Slashdot article. Furthermore, Slashdot is not a memorial service.
I agree, and I'd also like to see the return of slashback. It seems like doing a few follow-ups to big stories is too much work for CT and his crew... Maybe Zonker's growing momentum can kickstart a new round of get-off-yer-ass-an-do-somethingness within the bloated editor corps.
Actually, I left that word off because I feel that tits have been overexposed lately on/., what with the last 2 polls, Favorite Anatomy, and Farovite Curve.:D
I just felt like "duping the dupe," so to speak, and yours was the first score-5 post on the list. Karma's not the issue here, as I have plenty of that.
Perhaps others will disagree with me, but I just felt that the most obvious response to the still-on-first-page dupe was the time-honored repost tactic. I don't take/. very seriously. I mostly just read comments for the amusing trolls and the RARE funny, non-obvious joke.
Tech coverage? Gimme a break? You'd get better tech coverage from a bimonthly newsletter. Mostly, IMO,/. is just a running gag-line on 3 day-old geek news.
That said, I find your foeing of me highly amusing. A snap judgement of my post, perhaps, but I hold no animosity towards you. We could start a flame war if you'd like, but I don't find those very entertaining.
It's a stock swap. No money is involved. This is typical of how mergers often work. The companies agree to merge, and they agree what the company being acquired is worth, do some math, and convert the shares of the acquired company into shares of the new company. The math is much like doing a stock split, though the ratio usually involves a number of decimal points. (The accounting for the investors is also much like a stock split.)
The real question in this case is why is Mandrakesoft's stock worth enough for Conectiva investors to consider this to be a worthwhile deal (as opposed to grabbing on to a sinking ship). I haven't looked at the business side of either company, so I can't comment there.
Heh, guess I shoulda tried for a joke rather than stating what apparently is the obvious. I'm mollified that so many agree with me that Cannes is "shit."
You could move in 8 directions, and shoot in 8 directions independantly, which was the first time I ever remember movement and fire-control being independant for an overhead shooter. Before Smash TV, it was Icari Warriors-style, where direction-of-movement and direction-of-fire were always bound together.

How about this... Let's play Slashdot-Wikipedia.

Oh. You mean like in Superman 3?
I was thinking of the Nintendo version. My appologies, I didn't have very many quarters back then. I'll just STFU now.

Canne has gone to shit!
Obviously, I've not played Robotron, as it has the same controls. :)

Sunglasses at Night was done by Corey Hart, actually. That song, and Blondie's Rapture were my first 2 favorite songs, at the ripe old age of 3 - 4. :)
