If you say enough factually wrong soundbites, people will dismis you AND the people who are after you. Those who don't dismis you will think you are amazing.
It's called The Big Lie and it's a technique with quite a lot of history.
You could be asking thousands of Slashdotters to participate in a DDoS attack against someone who might be completely innocent, or whose only 'crime' is that their own server was compromised and used by the real phisher.
... or that their server is hosting a site linked on Slashdot. Same effect.
Oops, from the topic I thought you were talking about a Windows box. Upon re-reading your post I see you seem to be talking about a Linux box. My mistake.

I used a huge hosts file with Hostess for a long time, before I started using Ad Muncher instead. It rewrites Web page requests on the fly so ads are never even requested, among many other useful features (like a built-in proxy-hop utility). No, I don't work for them, just a satisfied user.
win2k is what i use at home, it's more stable than XP, but i use XP pro at work and it's not bad. XP home is a piece of crap.
My situation exactly, except that I've since put XPPro on my laptop and 2K is still on the server at home. My wife's Dell came with XP Home and I'm embarassed to admit it's still there. I think the entire point of XP Home is to piss off people who keep expecting the normal features of 2K or XPPro.
This would only be relevant if hard currency were still the primary method of commerce. Since a huge, almost overwhelming percentage of commerce is conducted by means of numbers moving between computers, China hoarding warehouses of $20s isn't going to hurt much.
My wife's employer has their machines locked down pretty fierce, so talking her through installing Trillian and the Gmail Notifier was interesting. I had her change the install path to My Documents (a subdirectory for each, of course), thinking that she would at least have rights there, and that actually worked. These are both pretty well-behaved applications, though, which properly write to HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and run properly under a non-Administrator account. I guess the question would be, do Moz/FireFox run acceptably under those conditions?
Out of curiosity, what did Clinton do to deserve impeachment?
He got a hummer in the Oval Office. Something poor, sexless neocons can only dream of.
Okay, the real reason is that he lied about it before Congress. And you know what? I agreed that he should have taken some punishment for that. I don't know that it's "high crimes and misdemeanors", deserving of the impeachment fracas, but something.
While he did probably mispeak, he probably does know about at least one other internet: SIPRNET.
Doubtful, and I'm not being facetious. He has no need to know the details of what secure network the Red Phone is connected to, be it SIPRNET or the brain-implant network we got from the Area 51 aliens. As long as it works, that should be all he cares about.
Now, "internets" was just plain misunderspeakment, classic Dubya.
When you are gurgling in painful death throws under the heel of the impending police state, I hope you'll remember my bitching and feel appropriately stupid.
Hell, I feel stupid just for reading your bitching the first time.
Read up on how checks and balances work, you seem to have missed a civics class somewhere.
Checks and Balances is based on one assumption: That the Executive and Legislative branches would not be controlled by the same party and then appoint like-minded judges. When the Republican majority in Congress rubber-stamps anything the Republican President suggests, including appointing conservative judges, Checks and Balances are useless.
Personally I'll be willing to vote 3rd party (I'm registered Green) when it will help and not hurt. This time, obviously, it will hurt. If Kerry gets in and does well, and is thus more or less assured of a second term, I'll likely vote Green in '08.
I don't think its generally true in the USA that Team X's supporters are democrats and team Y's are republicans.
If the Astros beat the Cards tonight, you are going to see a "Boston vs. Houston = Kerry vs. Bush" onslaught. Since Massachusetts can be expected to go Democrat and Texas can likewise be expected to go Republican, it can be claimed that many Red Sox fans will be Kerry supporters, and Astros fans will be Bush supporters.
Expect to get mighty tired of lame political comparisons by horrible Fox play-by-play guys in the next week. Considering it's Fox, look for "And Jeff Kent hits another home run, just like George W. Bush is going to do next Tuesday!". Or something.
What's the deal with "about:blank" anyway? That's one Ad-Aware detects simply because my start page is about:blank. It's an old habit, IE starts much faster on low-end machines when it doesn't have to load a page.
I set IE to about:blank on all of machines for which I'm responsible, because I very rarely go to the any one site on launching. I just add the "about:blank" alert to AdAware's ignore list.
My wife's start page is set to Google.
These links seem dead, but I found the same .torrents here.
Did someone let him know you mentioned him here? I expect to see a reply any minute now...

Sorry, "still bitter", party of one...

11. Which has the hotter daughter(s)?
Though if that was a criterion, Clinton would never have been elected.
