He's not conflating anything. He is saying that Wired didn't say, "We didn't do anything wrong". They said, "Not one single fact has been brought to light suggesting Wired.com did anything wrong". Those two statements are not the same.
Anyway, the issue Glenn Greenwald raises is that Lamo has been making public statements about stuff in the chat logs that is not in the published excerpts. Lamo has changed his story a number of times. So Greenwald wants to see the rest of the chat logs to see if they back up Lamo's statements. Wired won't release them because they claim they are not relevant.
Flying is a privilege, not a right. If you concerned about your freedoms and privacy, then drive or take the train instead of flying. It's not like you don't have options.
I for one am happy they are taking a more proactive roll in screening passengers on flights. It's also MY RIGHT to feel some assurance that the guy sitting next to me isn't planning on hijacking the plane.
No, it is not your right to feel assurance. It is our right to be secure in our person and effects against unreasonable search. Since the TSA are government employees, they should abide by th Constitution.
Ok, your a smart ass, the remove you out of the public areas for holding, and the social service to take care of the child you were traveling with. You're not allowed to talk to your child or call a lawyer. You might be held for 72 hours.
Think about that a bit.
Think about that, indeed. We now live in a country that uses the threat of the things you mentioned to get us to allow them to treat us like criminals and curtail our rights.
But that all being said, what do I care if some General has a boner for cyber security and wants to invest a few million in a industry I happen to profit from. Go right ahead I say. I just want them to quit attempting to alarm the general public with nonsense threads about hackers setting off a nuclear bomb, shutting down power, and otherwise ending the world.
But it's the alarmed public (and congresscritters) that justifies the funding.
Did you ever stop to think that if more people actually stood up and sacrificed for what they think is right the world might be a better place? Just be cause we all sell out doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
It's already gone. Google "Stephen Spoonamore". The electronic voting machines have been compromised from the start. Paper ballots are the only way to go. They are not foolproof by any means, but they are far more reliable than electronic voting machines or online voting. Seriously, who thought online voting wouldn't be hacked?
The reality is that aircrafts is extremely exposed and easy to shoot down with SAMs since it is easy to get them during landing and takeoff and you can't fence off an area big enough to protect them.
Quite correct. And yet, it hasn't happened. It's enough to make one think this whole Terrorist Threat isn't much of a threat at all.
People want cheap cheap cheap, so the design choices you mentioned were made to reach a price point.
Indeed they do. I have had multi-millionaires rave to me about how cheap Wallmart is. I don't fully get it. I understand wanting to pay less for something. But at some point that low price comes at the cost of quality or features. That seems like a bad trade to me, but many people don't seem to consider it. Maybe they think that if their widget breaks, it's ok because it's cheap to replace. That still seems short-sighted to me.
I abandoned cursive writing somewhere around 8th grade. Cell phones and the internet did not exist (in the public mind, anyway). My cursive writing looked terrible, I thought. My printing, on the other hand, had a nice round shape to it. So I just did that. Now, as you note, my writing is a combination of printing and cursive. But it's readable, and I still like how it looks.
This is one of the two things I liked about George W. Bush. The other was his emphasis on fitness. He was a good role model for those two things, and only those two.
There's no point in you voting. Your vote won't change anything. Voting is not the way of having an effect in a democratic system.
And now the bad analogy: To found a new religion you start by convincing other people a new god exists, not by convincing yourself and praying to it.
Do you still hold that view if the voting machines aren't rigged? I live in the US and have been voting third party. I know I can't single-handedly change the outcome of the election. But if enough people voted third party it could actually change things. If the voting machines aren't rigged, which they are.
As I said to another poster who responded to me, people seem to always associate "concentrate on profit" with "being a dick"...the two are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the more you focus on customers, the more your profit will increase (in theory, at least).
Making as much money as possible isn't inherently bad...it's all in how you go about it.
I agree that making money is not inherently bad. After all, capitalism is supposed to be about bringing together buyers and sellers and having both walk away better for the transaction. If the seller can make a good profit from satisfying the customer, I think that's great. But concentrating on the profit can easily lead one to be a dick. There is no shortage of examples of businesses acting irresponsibly (to put it mildly) in the pursuit of profit. They exploit labor, externalize costs, hide malfeasance, etc.
Personally, I think it is a matter of degree. I think you could make a million by being a good guy. But if you make 100 million, you probably had to be a dick somewhere along the way. I'm a believer in the old addage that behind every great fortune is a great crime. That's just the way I sees it.

The victim of this was damn lucky. Most people that got framed by this would be farting mayonnaise and ketchup in a max security Federal prison.
Man, you know way too much about prison lube. And now I do too!
No, but it's always on MichaelKristopeit312's agenda...

Since the beginning of time Man has yearned to destroy the sun!
It's becoming clearer to you now, isn't it?
Tell that to my boss...

Nah, if they really did it, they would just key in. You would never know they had been there.
Wow! You were Ferris Bueller!

We need a higher gas tax anyway. And this is coming from a guy who drives a sport wagon that gets 19 MPG in mixed driving.
Hah? I have a Droid X on Verizon and I can use Google to search, download from the Android Market, and haven't touched V-Cast.

As a frequent Windows user I'll go with the extra cocaine, thanks.

If the pentagon manages to get the originals back, they might just save Cheney, Powell, Rice, Bush, Wolfowitz, etc. from a public hanging.
That'd be a shame.
Really? See the 9th Amendment. Just because it's not in the Constitution doesn't mean that I don't have the right.
