I don't believe Skynet is supposed to be a distributed network of computers. Rather Skynet is a military AI program that was unleashed on the Internet and consequently controlled all machines hooked up to the Internet, which allowed it to take control of the missle silos (why were those machines hooked up to the Internet?) I wasn't so much bothered by this but the reason for unleashing Skynet was to act as antivirus? uh...
Considering that he has almost 500 million shares and he hasn't sold a single one in 10 years, perhaps, he just wants to diversify? (which any financial minded person will tell you is a Good Thing).
I don't think the leader of the council is a previous Neo. If you believe that Zion is 100 years old, then that man needs to be much older. What would have been cool is that during some panning shot in Zion, they had a picture of the founders of Zion, one of which was Neo as he looks now.
I've already come to the realization that this site is not "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." as Slashdot likes to proclaim. It's really a tabloid with a severe problem of duplicates and submitters not reading the actual article. The lack of an editor is the problem here.
Perhaps it was because customers realized it was cheaper to buy a ia32 NT box than a MIPS, PowerPC, or Alpha NT box? From a customer point of view, there's a lot more ia32 NT software than any other platform.
Please provide links to the number of times Microsoft has filed a patent infringement suit against someone. I think you will find that most if not all suits regarding patents have been against Microsoft. It would appear that Microsoft is simply trying to protect themselves.
If you read the original article it makes sense to delay a dekstop 64-bit processor. There simply is no 64-bit software for the desktop, whereas there exists 64-bit aware software for the server. AMD can't sell 64-bit processors to consumers if they can't demonstrate why it is superior to 32-bit.
Change your comparision from consoles to operating systems. Would you still want only one? Competition is A Good Thing. Personally, I have PS2, Gamecube, and XBox all hooked up through my reciever and they all sit on the ground (maybe 2nd generation wireless controllers will make it possible for me to put the consoles somewhere else). I got all three as there are specific games I want to play I can't play anywhere else. If you don't want to or can't afford to, then you'll have to decide which one gives you the most entertainment.
And there will, without a doubt, be a Duke Nuke'em 4, there's just no way the companies involved could resist such a surefire hit. It might not be out this year, but it will be released.
I believe 1080i is the highest HDTV resolution, but that doesn't mean someone can't de-interlace it to 1080p. It is true that Toshiba is shipping a LCOS rear-projection television capable of 1080p (costs about $9k). You can read about it here: http://www.bluefi.co.uk/story.php?news=14
Overscan area contains things like close captioning, macrovision protection, timing information, etc... you probably don't want to see this so for backwards compat. we are stuck with overscan.

I guess you don't believe in attempted murder either? If no one actually dies, no harm no foul. Intent is half the law.
Did you read the article? They would only be auctioning off a limited number per month.
Maybe the Linux guys need to talk to www.sysinternals.com they reverse engineered a dos driver that can read and write to NTFS

MSPress actually has a really good book available called "Writing Secure Code". All it takes is a few bad devs to create a reputation for the whole company.
Read the subject. You can also boot to a recovery console.
I guess Slashdot needs to change their tagline to: Discussion for Nerds.

The situation described doesn't include encryption.
No machine, network or not, that allows access to something other than the keyboard is secure.

Why should anyone be surprised? The power of the XBox is in the GPU not the CPU.
Perhaps Microsoft has patents on .Net so that they are protecting themselves from litigation? Not everything has to be a conspiracy.
You could: 1. Write for Mono, which would mean it should work on Windows. 2. Implement the Class Libraries you need on Mono that aren't available.
Perhaps the problem isn't with XML but with XML Parsers?

During the Text portion of setup, you are running basically only the NT Kernel with a simple text ui.
