This (iphone.org) is a moot point that has been in the rumor mills for some time. I don't see Apple using a dot org for a marketing domain. Nowe if there was a iphone.COM, that would be a different story.
OK, this is getting off topic, but I couldn't resist since I have finally turned my gentoo partition into mp3's.:(
Yes macs are great and I love mine, but instead of developing opensource programs, people realized that they can now make money by creating a cocoa version of top.
I don't know the last time I have compiled a program, but I don't see a huge visible open source community growing out of the largest group of unix users.
...or telnetting to a server using lynx while logged in as root.
Really though, this is an obvious answer: Mozilla has many excellent privacy features, though a bit on the fat side. On the other hand, Chimera, on os x is going to be the one to look out for, as it has many blocking features as mentioned before, but are controlled by either off or on, and not setting different variables as mozilla does. Chimera also lacks (as od todays build) image control.
6 months before any Apple keynote there are rampant rumors about new G6's, Mac's that make toast, or whatever, getting so many people excited that they will now be able to replace their old Quadra because the latest rumored model is fast enough.
So instead, Apple comes out with a really kick ass G4 and some cool app and people then whine and complain about how much Apple sucks. Apple sells maybe 20 new G4's.
Remember, the iPod was release with out a trade show. If fact, releasing products without any hyper fanfare of a Apple show seems to get people more excited and act more like consumers instead of critics.
So until the rumors die down, or until Apple becomes processor chip god, people are going to be disappointed with the keynotes and Apple.
You have good points, but what lacks is the consistency for really common keystroke tasks (closing a window, or quitting a program). Still nothing like the horror of loosing your mouse in x-windows!
An AC posted getting a free email account is possible through someone else (I think M$ was quoted, haha). Yet some people fail to realize that those "free" web-based email programs are a conduit for huge advertisement ads. So it comes to personal choice, do you want flashing ads, or pay for something sans ads?
Some people are managing to run their businesses using the webspace of the mac account storing software for people to DL. I have my personal domain name go to my mac account and have since ditched using a remote host saving $20 a month!
To explain my motives, I'm tired of incessantly admining/configuring/fighting the system at home. I have the money to pay Apple to do that for me now. I still advocate Linux on the desktop at work, but I don't get paid to tinker at home.
The thing with OS X is that it just works, which can be boring at times. I use a mac at work and home, but my situation is the opposite as I work in OS X at work and and stay up late tinkering at home in Linux (going back and forth to os x, depending on my mood). I use 2 monitors at work, and believe me, just plugging in the 2nd monitor and it working is a lot better than messing around with xinerama or other dual head hacks.
Oh yeah, to get your dream mac machine, you are always going to pay ~$3000 (Depending on what your dream is). It has been this way forever, so don't spend too much time looking for a bargain.
I have used, abused and trashed my iMac so much (how many partitions and distros of linux can you fit onto a 40G HD?) I am amazed that is still smiles at me.
The thing that I miss now is spending hours getting a program to config. NOW what am I going to spend my time doing? Certainly not switching WM's. Firewire and external devices just work! Now what fun is that?
I just got xcruise, a file browser that creates your fs into a galaxy, to work to work on OS X (need to have x working). I discovered it while sleep deprived at 3am and found myself getting lost in/usr. Though practically useless, it is pretty impressive. No 3D libs needed.
SuSE was the first distro of PPC linux that actually installed flawlessly on my imac SV SE (in text mode, of course!). They have more software than I will ever need. My only dislike about it is the whole SuSEconfig business. Its kinda like apple hiding all the fun stuff from the user.

You could remove the evil flash pluging :)

Just in case the light hasn't gone on yet:
Joe Avg Windows User "accidentally" deletes Explorer in Window (if even possible) --> their OS is now inoperable.
Joe Avg Mac User "accidentally" delets iChat, iMovie, iDvd, iWhateverElse --> They now have an extra 400 MB on their disk.
Depending on your hardware. OO is slow in osx on my old imac and slow when booted in linux.
All these office programs are bloatware anyways, stick to txt.
Can you say Geee four Titanium Power book?
If a post-house is going to buy Shake and a new Mac, surely they can afford a $30 multi-button mouse?

So will I use this? H*** yes!
I use a Mac and run linux (triple-boot) on it. So where do I fit in?? Maybe I have too much time on my hands...
And just for the record, I use a 2 button (and chord the middle) trackball.
My name is Zane and I am a Media Manager.

Have fun!!"And I've never recorded anything of internet radio, I don't even know how to do it."
try streamripper
