  1. Give the author some tinsel and whistles on Ubuntu To Pay for Upgrades To the Free Software User Experience · · Score: 1

Today's Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard, is a work of the user-interface designer art. My wife recently bought a MacBook Pro, and as I've been migrating her data and applications from her elderly XP-powered ThinkPad, I've been reminded of just how smoothly integrated everything really is on a Mac. It's like driving a top-of-the-line Mercedes sports sedan.

No you've been reminded how flashy and pretty has magically become synonymous with smooth and integration.

The actual workhorse is the BSD Unix variant hidden away where graphic designers and school children can't type sudo rm / -rf and then wonder why the prettiness stopped

  2. My reasons why DRM fails on Chronicling the Failures of DRM · · Score: 1
I live in Australia. If you can find a new release mainstream album for less than $30 in store you've found a bargain.

iTunes is by far the most convenient online music store I have come across in terms of use. So what do I do???

I willingly break their DRM and convert to a more portable format because:

    • I can't use my portable music player with my purchase.
    • I can't use my linux notebook with my purchase
    • I can't transfer my music to one of the multiple machines I own as many times as I please
    • When I pay for something I don't like to be treated like a criminal let me use my purchase how I see fit.

    3) Money < Job Satisfaction (actual valid response)

Job satisfaction ensures retention not money.Money will placate employees for typically no longer than 6 mths if my memory of HR stats serves correctly.
If Steve Jobs and his fellow executives keep staff happy they will probably work for a bit less as long as they're meeting the cost of living.

"We want to educate open-source developers. There are certain business rules [developers] need to obey, such as DRM, IPR [intellectual property rights], SIM locks and subsidised business models." Everyone has said my thoughts in a polite way. I wil just put it plain and simple. This guy is either the biggest pawn/suck-up for Nokia or his parents named him "Dr Ari" and he has no doctorate. Honestly how can anyone with some level of intelligence say. We need to educate these people against the belief/values they hold in high regard because senior management in our industry don't like people getting things for free!

  8. What nonsense on YouTube Fires Back At Viacom · · Score: 1

Viacom's complaint is insane. Hopefully it doesn't go to a jury. A jury is filled with stupid people who are not intelligent enough to tie their shoelaces. A country which in WWII locked up people of Japanese decent and in this so called war on terror locked up people of Middle Eastern appearence that the next (il)logical step would be to forbid travel to countries that don't have similar ideals or forms of government and anyone returning from said countries must return without any items incase it could potentially it destory all forms of "democracy" and is thus a terrorist device... I wouldn't do that. US Customs officials don't joke well. The customs lady hit the panic button apparently a bunch of armed officers came out with weapons drawn and demanded the man get on the floor. He was deported that day. In essence if someone who is a lawyer or legally trained would they be able to explain to me if you would have to record all information that passes through your webserver until the statute of limitations expires on that specific piece of information?

If I'm made to wait almost a year to watch something when I can download it off the net either legally or otherwise. Basic economic principles consumers demand products if someone can supply it then consumers will take it. Australian TV providers are slow and arrogant, Consumers are showing they want things faster. From what I've experienced in the school system students are far more disrespectful. I was amazed when I heard students swear directly at teachers. How many of you have to put up with that in your working environment?

Children need to respect the authority of their teachers and be disciplined by them. Parents going on about "suing" are stupid and teaching their children poor skills to deal with life
