Whose cool-aid are you drinking? Everybody who is not a total retard, knows how much of a useless security theater it is.
For thieves there are this incredible modern device called...I think... "gloves". For fingerprint scanners of the current generation, you can always take the fingerprint off a mug or glass (e.g. at a coffeehouse or bar). With a simple Tesa strip. Happened exactly like that with the German interior minister.
And no matter what, you can always just cut off his/her finger, and attach it to a small pump for warm liquid. Or do the same to a fake copy of the finger. Just ask a movie makeup artist, or the guys from Mythbusters. If there's enough money in it to be worth it, there is always a way.
And why? Because it lacks the third component of "who you are, what you have, and what you know". The password.
Yes, you just have to find someone, willing to pay you for it. There's always someone. Even if it means just entertaining those around you. Like being a DJ, a gogo dancer, a stripper, a bartender, or just a player.:)
That was a nice public stunt. I don't think any news show on the planet is willing to miss on that one. And of course I can't imagining anyone seeing a beautiful tropic island go forever.
I only hope that as many people as possible will from now on always have to think about them just destroying a beautiful place that they at least wanted to see once, when doing something that raises sea levels.
Unfortunately, with the biggest polluters being companies, that can afford making 13 senators openly defend gang rape and forbidding employees to sue for it (Haliburton), can start whole wars for their own profit (Exxon, also Haliburton, etc), sell drugs that are worse than crack and crystal meth to people and children "for everyday use" to make them addicted (Eli Lily) and create genetically modified crops that make the whole world junkies on their needles, sell biochemical warfare agents as sweeteners or kill whole towns by putting toxines in the water (all Monsanto), I don't see anything becoming better until there is a revolution with heads being chopped off.
I think I have to agree with that one. I really hope that there is a option (aka a "kill-switch") for that "kill-switch" in the Firefox settings dialog. Otherwise I would be very disappointed of those Nazi methods.:/
No. Once you are used to the other add-ons, you can't live with a plain browser anymore anyway. ^^
But obviously, you think that everybody just caves is, when a page is crap (=renders only in IE).
Do you remember how you and others argued, that IE users complain that the page is buggy, when in fact their browser was? You either have to say that the same is true for average Firefox users too, or that it never was true (which would be a lie, because people actually did blame the pages, as I know from years of being in that business).
I think they will finally call the page what it is, for "being buggy" (= requiring IE): A crappy page. Then they will go to the competition, which is just a click away.
By the way: I really wonder why people still come up with that "IE only pages" argument. It's years since I last saw something like that. And even then it was an old and buggy page that looked like out of the 90s. With Firefox over 20%, there is just no way any serious business would miss out on that market share. I know from my old job, that we usually had to make out pages compatible with enough browsers, to get above the 95% margin. Which sometimes meant, to specifically test in IE (two versions, at least), Firefox, Opera and Safari. That's how business does it. Because every lost user is a lost client is going down compared to the competition means not reaching the yearly goal means no bonus or raises for anyone. It's a no-brainer.
So RMS also caved in, and does not disable images and CSS styles anymore? What a loser. I knew he was getting weak when he switched from netcat to lynx!
So your argument against people switching away from MS, is that people use MS?? That's the classical excuse of to beta human: I can't do it, because nobody does it. And why does "nobody" do it? Because everybody uses that "argument" to not do it!
The best thing is, that it isn't even remotely true that nobody does it. You're reading a comment from someone doing it right now. But it's so convenient to ignore it that, isn't it? Maybe that's the difference between alphas and betas. Alphas have no problem being the first in the club, to start dancing. No they even grab a girl and make a show out of it! ^^ (Because they know that that makes them the leader. Something that is very handy and feels great. Killing any insecurity-based awkwardness.)
So if one person can do it, then two can too. Including handling MS file formats. Including the ability to be in a MS (SMB) network. And so on. So if two can do it, everybody can.
Which means nobody needs to use MS software. But they want it! Why? Because it's less effort. One can be lazy. And the excuses "always work", to lie even to oneself, about wanting to switch. "Oh, if only others would use it! Then I would too! But in this situation? No way!" Except that you wouldn't. Or if you would, then I wonder what a pathetic kind of cattle you are, for always trying to conform, even if it's not what you like.
Hell, I'd even prefer to hear that you actually prefer Windows, and that this is mostly because you don't like all the work required to switch. That would at least be honest. And while not agreeing with the view, I could absolutely comprehend and accept it.
Do yourself a favor, stop imitating others just to be "accepted", stop caring what others think of you, build your own set of values, be you, do what you like, and strongly stand behind your reality. That is a basic human right of everybody. And we will not hate you for it. No, we will love you for it. (Isn't it strange, how doing the opposite of what you did, will give you what you always wanted? ^^)
P.S.: If anywhere you found that my assumptions are wrong, *of course* you can tell me how wrong I am. But only if. ^^ (And moderation is no replacement.)
Uuum, please don't feet attacked, but... wouldn't it be the best thing to prevent getting it in the first place?
I know that in medical circles, prevention is mostly a taboo, and you can't prevent anything anyway (according to them). I don't think I need to tell you to ignore them on that. It's your life after all!:)
I am, for example, horrified by an ex-friend of mine who saw her mother lose a lung because of the smoking. And what was the first thing she did? Smoke even more! I mean, I know that cigarette addiction (not only to to tobacco, but mostly to the 600+ partially illegal and/or toxic additives) is stronger than Heroine addiction (I know this because I saw people who got rid of heroine, telling me that even after that, it's still impossible for them to get rid of cigarettes.), but WTF?? After something like that, I'd literally rather die than touch another cigarette!
I hope you can prevent what happened to your father in law. You know what to do: Inform your*self*.:)
It's not it being profit-focused that's the problem. I too mixed this up at first. But then I heard about how it's handled in China: There doctors only get money for healty clients in the group they are assinged to. Let's say they are assigned to 5000 people. And for every sick one, they get X Yuán less, so that if badness of the percentage of sick people is parallel to the badness of the money they will get. Then they will be very motivated to keep people healthy, and to earn money, because it will be the same thing.
Of course, as someone pointed out, doctors could still declare people as healthy who are not, to get the money. But that again could be solved by allowing people to back-check with unrelated doctors, and if those would find the person to not be healthy, cause a government control guy to investigate the first doctor in a very strict way. Which then could be countered by bribing the government guy. And so on... until the patient smashes the doctor's head in. Or the doctor injects some deadly drug into the person.
I guess unless someone proves mathematically, that the system can't be tricked, crooks will always be crooks, and always try to do their thing. And the others will always fight it.
It may only be solved with psychology, going straight to the reason those people act like crooks in the first place, and solving that. Read my sig. Why do you think I have chosen those words? ^^
Yo dawg, we heard yo like herd dawg herding Yo Yo yo yoing with yo Wii so we hid yo Wii and Yo Yo yo yoing in yo Wee dawg herd so you can herd yo wee herd with yo wee dawg and Yo Yo yo yoing while yo dawgs Wii hides in yo wee herd with Yo Yo, Yo Yo's yo yo, and yo wee dawg, yo.
Well, same as in the USA. I doubt many learn about what really happened in Vietnam, and the many other place. Or will learn how cold war really was hot. Just not for the USA, because they gave others weapons and let them die for them. Like in Afghanistan. (I know, because I'm myself suffering as a result of that.)
Uum, how does the other side killing civilians make you killing civilians somehow OK?? That would make you in no way better than them. PLUS the knee-jerk reaction style.
It's so primitive to think that way, it boggles the mind!
An audio group is what every Linux out there does. Even Gentoo with all its "you have to do this by hand" (which I prefer because I would do it anyway).
Then put a sensor in your chair, detecting that you sit in it. That's so easy, I did it when I was 12. If you have no knowledge of electronics, just buy the cheapest USB mouse you can find, and take it apart. Then put it somewhere in/on your chair, where sitting down pushes one of the mouse buttons. No change your HAL config files (in/etc/hal/) to not detect it as a mouse, but just trigger an even on pressing an releasing of the button. Done.
We understand. In that you're telling us, that your file sharing servers sit in the back of some room at your ISP anyway. ^^
Been there, seen it happening. In the large scale. I even was at a hosting company / ISP server center where they had one whole rack dedicated to the eDonkey network (back then).:D The boss got his porn from there, so he did not complain. ^^
I don't know if I understand this correctly. Are they saying that the vast majority of 55% of the price to to "retailers" who don't have anything to do with the whole thing at all. Maybe 10% go to Google, who do nothing more than offer a simple automated service, that costs next to nothing per book sale. And 45% go to publishing companies. Who themselves only did printing... oh wait...
What do the *authors* actually get? When I see what they get in the music sector, 5% could be the absolute maximum imaginable?
Yeah. Great deal!
I wait until some popular authors stop all that, tell them to go fuck themselves, and just sell PDFs on their own websites. It's already happening with big musicians.
Besides: You say "full time job" as if it were something good that you would like to keep. You realize that it's basically slavery nowadays, and even if not, that a job means your life's work will be devoted to someone else, making him a person to be found in history books, while your whole existence will be forgotten in a couple of generations. And that there are much better alternatives. Like *yourself* being the guy on top, that will be found in history books.
It's that thing called "freedom". But I doubt you, or anyone, really still know what it once meant.
So your statement is: "That thing is a load of crap, and everyone is stupid for buying it. Except that of course I have one, so that can't be."
What about the other, more likely, alternative... that you were just as stupid, but can't admit it because then you'd have to hate yourself. ^^
Depends. If they spend it on research to murder even more people with a F-35, priced at $500 million... then things might look different, no?
Or just, you know... Wear freakin' GLOVES! ^^
Whose cool-aid are you drinking? Everybody who is not a total retard, knows how much of a useless security theater it is.

Wait for them to become mandatory! ^^
But it would make a nice porn gallery! (Pray that there are no reflections on the screen! ^^)
Well, that's what you get for not letting him have "cheezburger"!
Wait another version, and we will add those things for "immersion".
