Security is not how the product was built, but security is dynamic. Security is something you apply to a product once you implement it. Security has to be maintained on a daily basis.
I think BSD will always have its place. It is secure for one thing. And nobody wants a GUI on their servers. Running XWindows can create security holes as well.

In california, I commute via Light Rail (Train). Now if you put one of these on train, and make it data enabled, everyone will be able to connect to the internet.
That could a good for the environment, as more people will like to travel on trains with internet connectivity.....
i have seen many books on apache and sendmail. and i have quite a few of them. i rarely consult them. when i need to find out anything, i m most like to type it into google, or search newsgroup (deja). this includes apache/tomcat performance tuning.
I have administered NIS+ apache, and sendmail, and these topics are so vast, that buying books doesn't help. However searching through google/deja does help a lot.
other. and no one is going to admit it is their fault. Admission of the fault, is very important to prevent this issue form happening in the future.

I like the way, BSD makes non-exec stack default. I think in the latest linux kernel, you can make it non-exec at compile but it is not default.
