Here, why don't you read this:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-57563189-92/chinese-authorities-probe-foxconn-bribery-charges/
Foxconn is cooperating with Chinese authorities investigating allegations that executives at the electronics manufacturer received illegal bribes from supply chain partners.
The company, which produces consumer electronics for companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Sony, said in a statement that it brought in law enforcement officials to work with an internal audit team investigating the charges "against a number of Foxconn employees."
The statement comes after Taiwan-based Next Magazine reported that a Foxconn executive had been arrested in September as part of the allegations. When queried by CNET, a Foxconn representative declined to address whether an executive had been arrested.
"Since the matter is under investigation, we are not able to comment further," Foxconn said in a statement. "However, we can say that the integrity of our employees is something we take very seriously and any employees found guilty of any illegal actions or violations of our company's Code of Conduct will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
"We are also carrying out a full review of our policies and practices to identify steps we can take to strengthen such measures to further mitigate against such actions," the company added.
This headline is really badly written.
A few high level Foxconn employees have been accused of taking bribes, by Foxconn. Foxconn called in the law enforcement on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and is working with them to capture all the responsible parties. So rather than Foxconn taking bribes, it's Foxconn employees abusing their power, and embezzling against Foxconn by taking bribes from suppliers.
There are plenty of Asian dish washers and restaurant workers, and have kids that are engineers and doctors. Does that count as upward mobility?
Wish I had mod points to adjust the Insightful rating.
Next week, they will sell you an Aquaponics system, with worm shit eating plant, and worm eating fish, for $60K. The first time you take out a fish and eat it, you complete the cycle. For $100K.
$40K can put in a pretty big septic system, with cistern and rain catchment to provide the liquid for flushing. You can probably get a grey water pond out of it as well if you plan it right.
Still, a lot of money for a pound of worms.
4$ per flush. That's pretty steep!
And $40K for a pound of warms, sand, and a conveyer system? Must be the new Millionaire tax that France is enacting that is raising the prices.
Back in the old days, there were these things called Station Wagons. People who had more than 2 kids used them to carry stuff and people back and forth.
As time goes on, Station wagons were un-cool as Drive-in makeout sessions gone the way of the dodo. But, people still want to carry their assorted off springs and general excess stuff.
In response, they bought these vehicles that looked like Station Wagons, albeit with a slightly shorter hood, with jacked up suspension, and larger tires. Rather than calling them station wagons, a new term was necessary. So the Sport Utility Vehicles were born. All was well in the kingdom of men.
Really? Tons of people die everywhere. In the grand scheme of things, we all die, with or without medical care. The universe does not give a rats ass about us.
There are countries in the world that you can't get medical care unless you pay at the door. There are countries with supposedly universal healthcare, that if you don't pay your mandated premium, that you don't get care.
PLEASE PLEASE buy a real transfer switch. It will only add another couple of hundreds of dollars, but prevents the backfeed from killing the guy trying to fix your power.
Even though I don't qualify as an Apple Fanboy, Steve's impact on the world of computing is felt everyday by all of us.
While Xerox PARC did the original GUI environment, and invented little things like the Mouse, Steve's vision with the Mac changed the computer world. It made computer accessible, influencing Windows and other OSs to make their system accessible to the masses.
Apple, Next, Pixar, Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPads.
I believe Steve made the world better.
See, that's exactly what they want you to think. They know you will think that way, therefore, they did it so you wouldn't think that it's them. Of course, you know that they know what you will think that way, so you know not to believe it, and therefore, it is them. Then again......
It's worse than that. What is a "Candy Bar" versus Food item differs in various jurisdictions. Is a Belt Buckle an Article of clothing or not?
many state/county/school district has laws on the books on how much percentage they get of all sales tax revenue. You need to override all of that to get to true streamlined tax. A lot of people would cry foul.
Apple actually shipped a number of prototypes to a variety of manufactures. Each with a different name. For example: iPad II, iPad 2, iPad Next Gen, iPad Mini, iPad Maxi, iPad jr, iPad Zwei
Now that the pictures leaked, Apple knows which manufacturer leaked it. You know that the iPad 2 guys would not get the next contract.
See, it's all part of the plan. That's why they have high stock prices, and we are just arguing about if they would name something with a 2 in the name.
Do you have any reason believing that Foxconn operate in an unsafe manner, or hires child labor?
Or do you believe that laws in the US should apply everywhere? Such as the Patriot Act?
What data do you have to support this?
My understanding is that there is a waiting list to work at Foxconn. You sign a contract to work there, with termination penalties, and there is multi-week training before you actually start working. While in training, you are paid, housed, and fed.
Not saying you are wrong, but would like to learn more about where you are getting your data.
Remember, China is a communist state. The state can impose a 1 year hard labor for each violation. Fixes the problem really easily.
In the video, they talked about it taking 3 years to put in a Subway, and how it takes too long.
In the US, it takes 3 years before the first public vote, and then 6 mores years for the EIS. Probably followed by a number of votes and politicians squabbling. We'll be lucky if the ground is broken in 15 years....

Why do people assume that different political point of views means the other folks are less intelligent?
Miranda.
Actually, the Navy decommissioned all the F-14s. So any actively deployed drone is needed more than the F-14....
Oh those Tomcats....

Awesome! At least 1 person read the book.... Remember, the robot has to be mind reading as well.

There are lies, and there statistics. Please cite where your 99% number comes from other than from your own imagination.
So you rather kill them than letting them decide what conditions they would work under. Gotcha.

Why was this moderated funny? This was happening for real!
