This isn't a troll, far from it. While I agree that Open Sourcing is a better way to go with Operating systems and Applications it shouldn't apply to games that are going to be played over the internet. It gives l33t h4x0rs and script-kiddies an instant referance to help them in cheating. SDKs are bad enough(but at least theses take some time to work with) but the entire source would cripple any hopes of playing a fair game. The saddest thing is that this looks like a really interesting project and from what I can gather from people who have it already the games engine is pretty flexable and innovative, if cheaters didn't exist then I would support open-sourcing every game under the sun but sadly I can't. Sad day.
Yeah thats what happened in Blade Runner (also losely based on a Philip K Dick Novel/short story)and Terminator 2. Atari purchased the rights for placement all over the place, they were gone in less than 20 years, almost 30 years before the movie was set.
The problem is that the Government 'owns' the airwaves and the frequencies and it leases out to the Radio companies specific frequencies to broadcast their programming content over.
In return for this license the radio companies have a social responsability to provide news/entertainment for the people who the government is meant to represent and not simply act as a funnel for the RIAA's musics choices while skimming off the top every cent they can scam.
There is an amazing article that deal with deep linking and it impact at every level of the internet community it can be found at a href = "http://www.... Oh wait I can't do that anymore can I? Damn. Oh well, it wasn't all that good.

The Filthy Cirtic gave this movie a pretty good review as well and agreed for the most part with Katz.
In other news hell just froze over, Microsoft has released the source code to every thing and the MPAA and RIAA are no longer jerks trying to kill all technological advancements in the name of copyright protection.
Have you not heard of the movie Battlefield Earth, that movie was a sure fire hit according to all the major studios involved with the project, as well as all the actors and a whole bunch of other 'impartial' sources. But people like me and my friends, we al went out and downloaded a high quality CAM of it, and the poor studio lost all that money. The investors behind it now need to get about a thousand more drones..I mean members of their alien cult.. I mean oh what the hell drones, to help pay for that epic master-piece which was crushed by all of us.
Seriously, all the MPAA have to do from now on is claim that any movie that fails does so because of internet piracy, then they can claim any BS case they want and further push back technology. Its evil, insidious and the saddest thing is one day they will probably make a movie out of it.
I can just imagine a news report of the future if this goes through

Tom Mabe has one of the most innovative methods for getting rid of Telemarkers.
He not only pranked them (pretending to a carpet cleaner that he needed a lot of blood out of a carpet, money paid in cash and to keep his mouth shut, telling people that he was interested in cheap international rates but that he did not own a phone and the best one begging a telemarketer to bring him over some beer cause this braclet on his ankel wouldn't let him out of the house until next month) he also made the whole record of them into a cd and made money out of them.

Jon Katz in misery and confusion... Linus must be smiling on us today..
But seriously in Australia Telstra serves as both ISP for a large percentage of users(both cable and dial-up) and as the major telephone company, therefore to save time you can opt to have both bill put together.
The trouble with this is that they use a capping system on downloads thus often billing people for downloads above a certain level(300 meg a month for dial-up about 3 gig for cable) and so if you try to complain about the bill they can just cut off your phoneline.
For a person running a business from home this can be disasterous, as a result I personally get a bill every three months from another ISP that doesn't suck.
Damn this is so typical of Jon Katz, this review sucks its just poor quality writing no research and stupid opinioated bs thrown up onto the best website on the net why in gods name don't they fire him.... Who did the review?
This review is awesome, CmdrTaco once more comes through with an interesting and insightful review of not only current movies but also our world and the universe as a whole.
Bravo you genius, prince among men we are in debted to you.
As long as its not Katz we are that is.
The great question that should be asked, if, after a movie is shown on television(free to air), you copy it from the television using a tv-in and then distribute it over the internet with the advertisments that paid for it to be aried still included would it still be a violation of the act?
And what about other countries that violate the DMCA, why should I give a damn if some guy in America wants to cut my balls off because I watched Pocahantos with the sound turned down four hundred and forty seven times in a single week?
I think the best attitude is the one Australians took when France told us not to call our wine Champagn. "Invade us."(Ben Elton. Stark)
I have to agree that Stapledons books do require some kind of recognition. Any writer who can cover over three million years of history in a paragraph deserves. Only then, in detail greater than any contemporary historian could ever dream to bring about this world, explore worlds not even concived of yet in such plausable and brillient style that makes you weep that his ilk no longer walk this earth.
Last and First Men is beyond any discription I can give it, only one word. Brilliant.
Interesting to note that the recording industry is the only major industry not to blame a drop in sales on the events of September 11th and the ensuing war in Afganistan.
Slight error, the guns that were taken away were all semi-automatics and automatics(No more AK's). The reason was that in the Tasmanian town of Port Arthur on the 29th of April 1996 a man named Martin Bryant opened fire on a crowd of people and killed 35 people.
The government at the time basically stopped this from happening again by taking away all the guns then putting up major restrictions on purchasing a gun (not just a three day waiting period, gun safety courses and photo id are all required now to own any gun in Tasmania) the down side was the possibility of an increase in break-ins, but its better than having another crowd of people dead in a restraunt somewhere I guess.
And even the increase in crime is exagerated in your post, that guns have been banned for almost 5 years now shouldn't affect crime rates now inless criminals have taken a hell of a long time to catch on.
All that I wonder about this(other than when can I get one) is how long till some genius in a Marketing department somewhere turns an entire building into a non-stop looping jingle? Just think, Times Square (which is already an advertising mecca) but now with J-Lo/ Kylie/ Britney playing in the background 24 hours a Day!
From the Article(NYT one)...he(Eisner) suggested that they (MS Apple, Intel ETC) had failed to develop adequate protection for digital media because piracy helps sell computers.
Microsoft et al aren't even able to develop decent anti-piracy measures for their own software and hardware(Multi-Regional DVDs etc) why should they bother to work on another companies problems when they can't beat their own?
Also the very idea that pirited songs and ripped movies help to sell computers is stupid. At most it forces some people to go get a better video card, start a broadband account and get a bigger screen and speaker set.
This isn't a troll, far from it.
