Hahahahahahahahahahaha! What planet do you live on? I just moved, to a location well within the city limits, and my options for internet from the phone company are...none. Just checked their website, and at my old house they could deliver... 3 whopping Mbps. Fibre may be replacing DSL some places, but sure ain't around here.
Yup, and unless you live right next to the DSLAM, DSL isn't comparable to cable, the performance drops off quickly with distance. And satellite/wireless is pretty much a joke. Sure, there are alternatives to cable, but they're not competitors, they can't match the performance. Comcast just jacked my rate up to $100, for a piece of cable plugged into a switch. It's insane.

Obsessing over hitting arbitrary timeline goals is pointless. If Tesla hadn't produced squat, that would be a problem. If they're behind schedule, meh, welcome to the real world.
...if your firmware's up to date? I can find the version of the firmware that's installed. What I can't find is anything documenting what the latest version for my Mac is. Apple's support site is a joke.
Yep. We had Skype for Buisness, and a bunch of rogue Slack instances. Skype for Business is just so clunky in comparison. Finally management broke down and got a Slack license. I'm sure they'll move us to Teams eventually, I hope MS doesn't screw it up. Especially Mac and Android support. Not holding my breath.
Is that really a thing? I've used pro and consumer analog gear with LED meters since the 80s, and none of (admittedly limited) software I've used had faux needles. Are they that common in audio apps?
No, you'd go bankrupt, because the pilots' wages account for far less than half of the expense running an airlines. See the post above where the commenter figured they'd save about 16 bucks a head on a 737 flight, less on a larger airplane. The savings are significant in the aggregate, but for the consumer they're close to nothing.
Basically, they're finding there's a lag between new hardware being released and the OS getting updates to support it, and it's a huge PIA for support staff.
Yeah, it sounds like part of their problem is that IT just isn't managing their desktops very well. That said, there are a lot of good tools available for managing windows desktops, I'm not sure what's available in the Linux world. But Munich is pretty awesome, you'd think Linux admins would jump at a chance to work there. Even if they're relatively rare, they've got all of Europe to recruit from.
"As Hersh writes, 'Typography can silently influence: It can signify dangerous ideas, normalize dictatorships, and sever broken nations. In some cases it may be a matter of life and death. And it can do this as powerfully as the words it depicts.' Don't believe him? He's got ample visual examples to prove it."
His ample visual samples are blackletter, Arabic, and Cyrillic, and 2 of those aren't fonts, they're alphabets. And Hillary's logo vs. Donald's hat. I know people who spend hours agonizing over choosing just the right font. I still think they're idiots.
Most of the homeless, including the mentally ill, would be happy to live in free housing, otherwise they wouldn't be going to shelters. Let's not throw up our hands and say "There's nothing to be done for these people short of locking them up!"
Yeah, I'm wondering if they're comparing to Macbooks running Windows. Bootcamp drivers are crap, so it's not a great comparison. My Air runs OSX much more efficiently than Windows.
...is here. Honestly, I can't see the point of putting an i7 in these. If you're doing anything that's pushing all the cores, the heat generated will force it to throttle down, unless the newest chips have become way more efficient than previous gens. Would be interesting to see a shoot-out between the i5 and i7 models.
Yeah, it's impressive for what it is, but they don't sound human. The Trump voice was the closest, but then Trump doesn't sound like any other human I've ever heard.
From TFA: "Companies with deep pockets lock down the market by making it too expensive for competitors to operate and to offer lower-priced yet quality products. It is a legitimate tactic; even those who succumb to it don’t really begrudge the approach."
If this is a "legitimate tactic", the so-called Free Market is seriously fubar'd.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out where Quartz is getting "perpetual motion" from "this battery stores a crapton of energy". Skepticism is fine, but it just comes across as lazy and misleading writing.
Well, there's state and fed income tax, let's say they come to 30% after deductions and credits, so he's left with $76,000 for groceries and utilities. $6K and change per month. Scraping by, really.
...but what's the point of colonizing the moon? What's there that's of any use to us? We already have ISS for zero-G experiments, and it's far easier and cheaper to get to. Going to the moon was an impressive "because it's there" achievement. But colonizing? I can't see any ROI.

Interesting. So blacks, who make up 13% of the US population, account for over 25% of fatal shootings by police.

Yeah, Audible, Netflix for me. I got Amazon Prime, but haven't used the media. I'm not much of a consumer I guess.

I like launchpad too, but yeah, not many people use it.

+1 on Messenger being annoying as hell. Can't be said enough.

How about we just tag 'em and track 'em to make sure they're behaving?
