This file is actually pretty cool, it has photos of how you hold the ball for each pitch and diagrams showing their flight paths. The only one on your list not covered is the screwball, which AFAIK is like a curveball but breaks the other way, so you have to snap your wrist in the opposite direction to throw it. Not very many pitchers use that one. Enjoy!

Lindows will contain some GPL software, but the whole thing will almost assuredly not be distributed under the GPL. Those machines don't look that cheap to me. They're offering an HP Celeron 700 for $449. A quick check of Best Buy shows that you can get an HP Celeron 1.1 GHz with a bigger hard drive (40M to 10M) and all other specs equal, and with Windows XP Home included for $500 after mail-in rebate. I don't see much of a Windows tax in effect here.

Linux and the BSD's all run the same X servers, window managers, desktop environments, etc so from a desktop user's perspective there really shouldn't be much difference. The only exception I can think of is nVidia cards, where I believe you need to use a kernel module from nVidia to get the best 3D performance. Last I heard this was available only as a binary for Linux, so if you're using FreeBSD you'd have to use the XFree driver. For 2D framebuffer-type stuff I don't think there is much difference between the free and vendor drivers, but I don't have an nVidia card so I can't say for sure.
